@Tamerterrible You might try putting it in a refigerator for a couple of hours and seeing if it will work, or put it on a heating pad for 30 minutes and see if it will work then. Sometime heating/ cooling a hard drive will get it to work long enough to pull off your data. Otherwise you'll need to send it off to a data recovery shop and pay $1000+

Thanks for this information. A masterclass if i may say so. I have an external harddrive, with my edited photo's and now i can see light at the end a the tunnel.There is hope! Thank again for this tutorial.

If the drive is making noises it's best to tell the customer to send it to a data recovery company....now if the customer is not willing to spend much then you could try to save data from it. If for example the heads crashed into the platter then the platter gets scratched and the damage will just get worst the longer the drive is in use. Scott Moulton has done a series of lectures you can watch on yourtube...he owns a data recovery company and reveals many secrets of data recovery.

@Dirteez ahhh.... sounds like you're screwed... did you try the "deep scan" option?

@Dirteez You may have a major corruption. Try running Recuva on the drive and see if that gets anything for you. (It's free)

In the video you mention that this is a multi-step process. After using the data recovery device, would you then plug the target drive into your...lets say dedicated data recovery computer? Would you see a list of files? What comes next?
@Dirteez13 жыл бұрын
@elithecomputerguy haha that was my good back up. I keep it powered up but not plugged into my computer unless i need it. I plugged it in to get some stuff off of it when the attack hit. oops haha. Funny thing is, when i scan the drive it takes about an hour or so and i can watch it read through all the files i have on there but can't get them off. Taunting to say the least.

Hy Eli. Tell me that NexStar HDD Duplicator NST-DP100S3 will do the trick ( i know that's very cheap ) . It will be able to duplicate those hdd's with bad sector/clusters or it's purpose is to clone just for backup ? I'll appreciate if you ll give me an honest answer

Ok, i've watched a few of your vids in attempts to recover my external and internal hard drives in and being used by my desktop. However, no go. I have my external hooked up to my lap top and when i try to open the drive it tells me that the drive is empty. When i check free space and used space on the drive it is the same as before i had this problem. The power works fine and i can hear it working correctly. I got some kinda malwear that just killed everything. ideas?

I've used Spinrite from GRC.com to recover and repair failing hard drives a couple of times. It's claimed that as long as the drive is still spinning it will eventually recover and "repair" the drive. At about 50 Dollars it's worth a try. As I said, it's saved my bacon a couple of times. It takes forever though and doesn't work over USB. It has to be connected to a motherboard. It runs from a CD, Bootable USB stick or even a floppy disk (remember them?) so you don't necessarily have to remove the HD from the computer - just run it in situ. And no - I'm not connected with GRC!

@elithecomputerguy Yes sir i did, a few times. Still next to nothing. Haven't tried it on my internal drive yet but considering they were both hooked up when the attack hit i'll presume the same out come. Always can try though right? haha I was told of an attack like this one before but they were able to use system restore. My system says that system restore cannot protect my computer. It looks like a fake windows scan program...damn Thanx for your help

When a hard drive is dying you are playing Russian roulette and a time game. Trying to get data off a dying hard drive can actually kill it faster.
