Roy Harper's genius! Most underrated musician song writer in UK! This is stunning and Kate and Peter Gabriel's version lovely too 💚💚💚💚💚

I don't hear Kate Bush but she recorded this song with Peter Gabriel in 1979 a few years earlier, strangely her vocals were less dreamy (it's a break up song) but she extended notes in a similar style at many points. Gabriel later featured Bush on his single Don't Give Up & sang with Joni Mitchell on her song My Secret Place. Along with so many significant struggling new artists through decades The Cocteau Twins owe much to John Peel for promoting them.

Elizabeth Fraser singing as part of 'This Mortal Coil'. Marvellous

And yet the vid opens with a title saying "the Cocteau Twins". Sure, Liz sang with them, but this, as you say , is This Mortal Coil, off It'll End In Tears, which also had a particularly haunting version of Tim Buckley's Song to the Siren.

I'm very fond of The Cocteau Twins and Elizabeth Fraser's glorious vocals and absolutely adore Kate Bush. Either I've suddenly gone particularly deaf or -- Kate Bush is not featured in this lovely tune. Don't forget Elizabeth's work with Craig Armstrong: kzbin.info/www/bejne/pZq1iXp-lNOshqc Have a very nice day. 8)

Elizabeth's voice effortlessly bounces, drifts, and poetically falls just enough to catch the wind and soar beyond the clouds with the perfection of angels in mid-flight. Every time I hear her sing, my eyes well-up with tears and they stream down my face. Here, exists a place where we can escape from the madness and turmoil of our sad and angry World. There's nothing else that comes so close to touching that 'ultimate freedom' -- without dying. I've heard other people say certain singers, can inspire them with their vocal acrobatics - Except when, it concerns Elizabeth Fraser's singing, as she speaks directly to your soul. If it's more than what your soul can absorb, so, it will flow through you and back into God's ear. I would think anybody could envision a ballet, with those fragile dancers on their tip-toes, as they twist, turn, spin around, and leap much like an African gazelle. Behind all of this dance, there is an unbelievable amount of strength and determination. Unlike most singer's, who play the short game as they rise and fall within a decade: Not Elizabeth, she's playing the long game. This woman will sing to her dying day and she will always hold the moniker as, "The Voice of God" she's so distinctive and spiritual. "While the Dove Domains, and Feel the Juice Run as She Flies, Run My Winds Under Her Sighs, A s Those Flames of Eternity Rise" ― Roy Harper. His words with her voice, it's just beyond.... !!! As you've probably guessed, there is no Kate Bush on this recording; but, then again, is Kate necessary.... ???

You’ve explained the experience well. I can’t tell you how much this voice has saved me and seen me through some of the worst times in my life. I thank God for Elizabeth Fraser.

Written and performed by Roy Harper, then Kate Bush et al, and here's Liz's version...the music pitches the right mood and Liz has an angelic voice, however she seldom has clarity with it! I love this version, (my favourite) but I would ask others to listen to other versions regarding the lyric's. On hearing them, you will as I do, love the use of metaphors and analogies, so apparent/stark. To me this is a poetic tragedy, within evocative vocals and music... tears come!.

People who are into texts and early 70s are not her audience. Punk (where she comes from) was also not about vocal "clarity". She and the band would have been mega stars but the british audience has buried so many talented artists by buying Kylie and Jason's records instead.

all versions are equally beautiful in their own right xo
@spinglasshydra3 жыл бұрын
It's not fare to expect, the average listener, to find "clarity" regarding Elizabeth Fraser's vocals. Although, she has increased in popularity, her music, doesn't need any forewarning. It's like, "The Song to the Siren" in which, people knew to look at Tim Buckley's lyrics. Elizabeth has created a 'well known' mystique; and of-coarse, the uneducated will argue over her 'having' lyrics -- she does. After, 38+ years of listening to Elizabeth Fraser, she, still defies any classification: That's, her, charm and appeal.

@@merseydave1 This is not about popularity or 'likes'; that's a superficial observation. So, you've garnered 13 'likes', over, the past 6 years - this doesn't qualify as a success. By-the-by: It's spelled "partisan" and, it, was applied inappropriately; if, your going to try to insult me - learn to write.

As others have mentioned, Kate Bush doesn't so mush as cough in the background on this. I really can't think where that idea came from that she had anything to do with it. I like all three versions I've heard and my favourite can veer from one to another accoding to the mood I'm in. The first time I heard it on the This Mortal Coil album it was driving me mad for ages trying to work out where I'd heard it before, However, the Peter Gabriel/Kate Bush version suffers from being terribly recorded, in fact being the BBC, I wouldn't be surprised if somebody lost their job over that. Peter Gabriel's crescendo in the middle must have had all the needles virtually welded to the red end of the metres.

That would have been sublime. I'd pay good money just to hear Kate grunting in the loo.

It was originally a collaboration with Peter Gabriel and Kate Bush and there's a rare video of them doing the song. It was supposed to be a single but still remains unreleased. The title of this video is confusing - there's a Kate Bush tie-in but she's not on this lovely Elizabeth Fraser cover...

This is the exact same, as the, "This Mortal Coil: It Will End In Tears" version. I think, when ever, this was posted, the author may not have intended to say 'with Kate Bush". The echo you hear is all Elizabeth Fraser.
