My thoughts exactly. Also the 5.3 for artistic was ridiculous!

That mistake was crucial. Liz Manley did a good job anyway.

Blatant nationaliasm - the 5.2 and 5.3s were what she deserved. But Kadavy did the same mistake on a harder combination and got marked lower so the judges - including the US and Eastern Eurpoean ones - clearly were playing favorites.

Kadavy's mistake was bigger. It was a step out while this was a turn out. Manley had more clout than Kadavy at this point though. She was the Olympic silver medalist who many said was robbed of gold there, while Kadavy was #3 American. Kadavy also skated really slow and with no attack.

Well in Manley's book, Thumbs Up, she mentioned, never in the history of the world's had they played the wrong part of the music, and she was so distracted that she flubbed her combo, But Manley was still robbed of Olympic Gold!

What a joke ... ffartisan!! Like the Soviet, East German or US judge per example have never did anthing like that ... yeah right !!

She was never an impressive skater. Liz Manley had no individuale sense of style. Her routines were always very juvinile and childlike with no impressive technical moves. I couldn't stand watching her interviews because she always put on this phony, cutesy facade. Maybe she was related to Minnie mouse. Debi deserved to be second. I hope the ISU fired that Canadian judge. All and all she was not a good enough skater and should have never been placed on the olympic and world team.

So who should have been on the Canadian Olympic team over her? Charlene Wong and Shannon Alison. Dont make me laugh.

Eh. Everyone in that era had a few major aspects that made them qualified to be winners. Nobody was an "all around". Liz Manley was good (for 3 months in time) for a Lutz and quick spins. Witt was consistent for easier triples and acting ability. Manley did not have a defined on-ice persona and her interviews were childlike much like Elaine Zayak, who always struck me as a 12 year old girl even when she was 30. Also like Zayak, Manley had "excitement" for the triples repertoire but she didn't have any stretch, no personality and had little connect to her music. She was fine for 1988, though... she was like an updated Zayak. That was kind of the deal back then.

I S you are so wrong!..She and Ito were the only female skaters that did the Triple Lutz successfully, the hardest jump next to the Triple Axel. Debbie didn't deserve the Silver, she flopped on her arss at the Olympics and the World's, if anything Midori Ito should of been on the Olympic Podium, not Debi Poor Sport Thomas!

I also disagree that she was "never an impressive skater." Her program (along with the phenomenal Ito) made the Calgary Olympics perhaps the most exciting in recent memory. It's ironic you mention Debi Thomas, as she was, imo, very overrated. Let's not forget that Liz Manley WON the long program at Calgary, so it's ludicrous to say she should never have been on the Olympic team.
