Speaker Biography: Elizabeth Moon describes herself as "a small-town Texas girl," who was born and raised in the Lone Star state just a few miles from the Mexican border. She started writing poems and stories at an early age. But as the child of a single mother, she realized she needed to earn a living, and writing did not offer a promising career. So she enrolled at Rice University as a physics major. It wasn't her calling and she graduated in history instead. All the while she continued to write -- mostly science fiction -- in her spare time. Moon sold her first book in 1987 and has since won both the Nebula and Heinlein awards. Her new book is "Limits of Power."
