I think what I find most fascinating about this (And I have noticed this in portrait painting as well) is how dark your refference photo is. It really allows the shadows to stand out and give form to the petals. I think I need to stop trying to paint things with full round lighting, and not get frustrated when my paintings turn out looking flat. Thank you so much for sharing!

Thank you. I do turn off all the lights except for the one that is lighting the set up when I photograph it. I also have my camera on a tripod and set it on a timer. I do have a video on the Inspired to Paint site about photographing but it is a premium content

It looked amazing with the whites and darks. That would be my painting. As there is the natural beauty of nature and there is mans interpretation of nature And to me this art how we interpret nature. Unless we can take a photograph or do colouring in. Its great to learn realistic painting but to then go off on your own artistic journey. I think you need to go with the flow as well as doing your realism.

thank you. I hope ART starts to go back to appreciating WHAT is REAL, not slopping paint , splattering, or doing a watered down liquid color to make it so called more Abstract. They do this to peoples profiles, wildlife animals. Or we get many pod cast to show how to TRACE, and Transfer, wildlife than to learn the anatomy. Once you know a little about animal or human anatomy, you all ready know where to add light and shadows with out TRACING. Deer at the zoom wildlife films, or museum show cases of wildlife.. THANK YOU>

I did paint this one from life. And I give the photo to you the student so you can follow along with me and see what I see as I paint from life. I paint from life all the time but there are times where you can’t paint from life due to circumstances beyond your control so Photo is fine to paint from. You don’t like my work move on don’t watch
