Many, many years ago a woman by the name of Sherwood McGuigan owned this place. Every year she would invite us orphans to stay at the guest houses for two weeks each summer (One guest house was called "A Frame" and the one actually pictured was named "Nick's Place" after her draft horse Nick who used it as a barn before its conversion. I adored it because: it still smelled like sweet feed and alfalfa.) Sherwood would cook us dinner in the main house, she had so many curious things collected in there. Her staircase had vintage carousel horses making up the rails and banister. She let us use the paddle boats in the pond by the house. The stories around the fire in the kiva at night were unforgettable. She took us up the mountain at night to watch the elk, fish rainbow trout from the stock ponds and kayak. Her two Shetland sheep dogs, Ringo and Tucker would chase us around the yard. She would take us to white water raft he Animus River, she rode the Durango-Silverton coal train with us. Took us to the Hot Springs in Pagosa. You would of never known how rich she was: She wore her husband's old uniform shirts and ripped jeans, had a grey chilli bowl hair cut and wore bottlecap glasses. She smoked Marlborough Lights. I come back to watch this video every once in a while, to remind myself of these memories. Thank you, Sherwood. You placed the love of the outdoors and nature into my heart. You were kind to orphans, inviting them into your home. She treated us like family. She passed in 2012, and I believe this property went up for sale two years after her death. If only I had the means to purchase it.

This has got to be one of the worst places I've ever seen. If you like cold, being cold, and always needing a fire in the wood stove to stay warm then this for you. Wood log walls don't keep the cold out. Being next to a cold running stream, in a cold valley 10 months out of the year in normal times and spending tons of money just to stay warm in a uninsulated over built to large to maintain house is for you then go for it. While the land is pretty to look at in the spring and summer, it does not produce any income except elk which is infected with Mad Cow Disease and should not be eaten. Even if you are rich rich rich, this is a over priced worthless money pit in middle of a soon to be ice age.......throw that money away.......LOL
