I just bought a hypo translucent bearded dragon. With a tank, lights(Arcadia t5 w hood)(a good basking light) vitamins, wood, supplements, I had orange head roach colony, I bought 250’super worms to start colony, stand, reptile cleaning supplies, dimer dome, dragon care book, temp gun, collard greens, dandelion greens, squash apples, bee pollen etc. I probably spent $1200 all in 🤦🏽♂️ but I tend to buy the best of things. Unfortunately I’m a rich snob in my head but in reality middle class so I’m not surprised 😯 I want the best for my animals in my defense, especially after spending $500 on my girl. I’m already in love w her. Everything is expensive now it’s INSANE but I prob over did it a little 😂GREAT VIDEO!! I will go this route moving forward!

I definitely love the dollar tree! I've bought tons of fake plants, diy hides, those little dome terrerium things, pots, glass and ceramic bowls to use as digging areas, food and water dishes, I've used the little bar soap holders that have suction cups as little ledges for my arboreal geckos, and have made hammocks out if the little hooks and bandanas. My leopard gecko can't be kept on loose soil because of some birth defects, so I also buy the non adhesive cabinet liners a lot and often buy containers to keep and breed feeder insects in. There are definitely a ton of neat finds! I also like going to thrift stores which often have fake plants, different glass and ceramic dishes, baskets you could make into hides, and even reptile specific products including tanks. You just have to remember to always sanitize everything!
@ellesreptiles2 жыл бұрын
Those are all such amazing ideas! 😍Using the suction cup soap holders as ledges is genius. I've never thought to do that. You listing everything out makes me want to do a video just going through dollar stores to find tank ideas. 🤔

@@ellesreptiles thank you! I always look through everything with the mindset of "could I use that for my reptiles?" and when I saw the little soap holders, I immediacy thought of the little frog shaped ledges you can buy on Amazon and thought they would be perfect! That definitely is a great video idea!

Maybe you can make a video on how to disinfect used tanks? Lots of people say bleach and water, but lots of tanks are really big and front opening, so filling it with water wouldn't work

I do alot of that and you do save money. I breed my own roaches and mealworms. If you want your super worms to breed stop feeding them for a little bit and they will become beetles. I also us lids off of jars for smaller reptiles for water or food dishes plastic ones not metal ones. Great tips for saving money. Have a great Sunday and see you next week. GOD BLESS 🐍💖🐸💖🐢💖🦎💖

To add onto the free enrichment, if you have a top opening tank with a metal mesh top, you can put your gecko on it and they will take a solid like 10 minutes to explore it and all the new textures. Also you can make a Maze out of card board and add little pieces to the bottom

Hi Elle! I’m a new subscriber! I live in Nova Scotia, Canada, & I am fascinated with bearded dragons 🥰 unfortunately I have never even had the opportunity to hold or touch one before. There’s nobody that I know that has one, and we do not live near any pet stores or breeders. But we were away recently and had the opportunity to see some at a pet store and I just fell even more in love. I have been doing research for the last few weeks and trying to find out as much as possible about them & they’re care, feeding, everything really. Channels like yours are so amazing to help teach, it’s so appreciated. I was trying to avoid purchasing from a pet store for obvious reasons but I’m not having much luck finding breeders because of my location. But I’ve seen very good reviews from this particular store. I’m nervous, excited as this is a totally different family member for us, as we only have one furbaby, our chocolate Yorkie Maggie who, is 4 years old. She is a wonderful little pup and is not yappy, like many other little dogs 😁which is good when thinking about bringing in another pet. I appreciate any advice you may have, and I am sure I will be back to ask questions.🤗

@@ellesreptiles I was So super excited! They were so beautiful I think there were five in one really large tank. And they just look so wise and majestic. I was mesmerized. Now I’m just completely fixated on KZbin videos and watching everything I can, as I find them incredibly fascinating. When I found out they had a third eye on top of their head, I was like, what is more cooler than that. I do you have a question, I hear a lot of people commenting on how horrendous there a bowel movements are & how messy and they walk through it and make a horrible mess everywhere. I’m just wondering is there bowel movements always so watery and runny? It sounds almost like maybe these people that complain about bowel issues and why to avoid buying one for this reason is that maybe they’re feeding them improperly? And also, Do their bowels generally move every day?

I do pretty much all of these. I have purchased a tank from someone else. Was lucky enough to find one that was brand new. But unfortunately, people in my area sell their used tanks for almost as much as brand new. It's very frustrating. I'm not spending $300 on a used tank that I can buy brand new for $350 and not have to worry about any diseases being brought home. I am in the process of transforming a huge tote into an enclosure for my fire skink. I keep getting delayed with life things which is why I haven't finished it yet. But I can't wait for it to be completed. She will not know how to handle herself since she is going to have so much more room than she has now. After that, I plan on building a double enclosure for my bearded dragons. Once everyone is upgraded, I will sell my tanks other than the one that can collapse down as an emergency tank. There are lots of ways to get creative and save money. Even my bearded dragon "shelf" is a diy from a crib I converted. And it will probably be what I use to make my double enclosure. It's the perfect depth and width for a beardie enclosure. I already put it on wheels, so it will allow it to stay portable. I was going to buy a shelving unit for them. But when I saw the price of shelves that are 4x2, that was the biggest nope ever. I knew I had that crib hanging out in my garage and devised a plan to make it into what I needed. I spent maybe $15 in hardware and wheels.

Isn't that the truth!! Stuff is getting absolutely crazy expensive...I can't imagine the money you pay monthly for all your animals but I am already feeling a hecking squeeze on my dogs food (he has a severe chicken allergy so it is a bit pricey). I already use carecredit at the vet. I'm lucky my leopard gecko's food is easy and breeding (dubias, crickets, superworms) but frozen rats aren't exactly cheap to ship ...
@ellesreptiles2 жыл бұрын
It's quite expensive 😅 and I completely understand about the dog food too - one of my dogs also has a chicken allergy.

I was starting to have trouble even finding my dog's food. Any time I ordered online from different stores the order self canceled in two weeks and it was never in stock in stores. I upgraded to a much more expensive food because I could reliably find it. Stuff is getting expensive in more ways than one 🥲

@ellesreptiles2 жыл бұрын
If the feeders don't eat them all, just whenever the veggies start to look like they need to be replaced. 😊 You definitely don't want them to rot in there - that's going to make the container, and the room they're in, smell really bad 😅

I am looking into getting a cornsnake and that's one thing I might not be sure about when I do get one. Sorry this is off topic to the video but I just watched your corn snake care guide from like a couple of years ago so im sure your not responding to those comments still😂

He just continues to hunt after he's done with the first mouse. This probably isn't a problem most of the time if you're feeding appropriately sized rodents, mine just refuses to eat anything bigger than what we give him. 🥲
