When I first got mine petsmart told me a coil uvb was just fine, I had a book on caring for bearded dragons but didn’t mention what type of uvb was needed. After watching KZbin videos on proper lighting and one day I came home to her being lethargic I ran up and got the tube uvb and she immediately perked up. Petsmart also told me 10 gallons was fine for her since she was so little. Thankfully I knew better on that subject to take that advice.

We got 2 adult bearded dragons about 6 weeks ago, male and female. I was told the male didn't like to be handled, but he bonded very quickly with me and I love him to death. He is super sweet and loves being petted, at least sometimes lol. Anyways, I really enjoy your videos, I really like that you point out to use multiple sources for caring for them, and I love when you say "the bee's knees", I haven't heard anyone use that in many, many years. Thank you for the helpful advice, looking forward to more videos!

Hi there! I just watched your video for the first time. Such great information. Thank you for the extra education. One can never know everything when it comes to dragons. I've lost 2 dragons allowing someone to sit them while I was away. They did not know the proper care. Your video is PERFECT for beginner dragon owners or to share the next time I'm away and need someone to care for my baby. I do have a dragon now that I recently adopted...and ironically enough....I have a cat. One morning, I found her in his cage. She was on one side and he was on the other. Whew! I was lucky. My cat has been around dragons since she was a kitten....I believe that was my saving grace. I sit next to the 2 of them when they spend time together. I'm blessed that they get along. I NEVER leave them alone though. Thanks again for the information provide. So happy to come across your post. Cheers!

I actually double rescued my dragon about 4 weeks ago. I say rescued because the only thing the previous owners did right was the basking light, a way for it to relax under its basking light, which now needs to be upgraded, and the tank size. The "double" part comes in because it jumped off of me, because it was on my shoulder, and landed on the porch, where their cat (only hunts) had come up. Got a cat scratch, but I got lucky with no infections. Past that, there was no calcium, no protein, they only fed it greens (so no problems with its salad, though something is messing with its stomach) and calci-sand in the tank. Thinking about changing the tank to a terrarium in the future, but the aquarium is fine for right now, considering it is still 55G. I now need to check with my vet (cat and dog, both are older and chill with the dragon. Cat is curious but gentle! No unsupervised interactions.)

The plastic spikes are amazing ideas...my fat cat busted the screen on the top of my crested/chahoua hybrid's temporary tank not long after I first got him and we came out to a tail flailing in the middle of the hallway. The gecko was still alive and I still don't know how I found him. Pure luck! I felt awful that he went through that experience - I'm so thankful he's still alive. I've heard of others with similar experiences. Since his father was a mainland chahoua his tail is slowly but surely growing back 💚🦎💚

While I do have a vet lined up I havent needed to go there just yet. Kevin's breeder is very lovely and allows his dragons to come back to him for spot checks/nail trimes etc for free. Kevin has had two trims so far (and one panicked checkup when he decided to shed exactly ONE toe and freaked me out as it started to go white) with no issues. I'll take him in for his first checkup to the real vet once he reaches a year old to get his record established.

Air conditioners! Omg when i got my air conditioner I had no clue, as a first time herp owner, that it messes with the temps ans humidity in a glass tank so much! It actuallly stsrted a premature brumation cycle in my beardie. I recommend not having a tank anywhere near an ac preferrably on the farthest side of fhe room or another room entirely. Oh and for salads hand feed! My drsgon has never had an issue with salad but I hand fed her so many different things including bugs she knows when i offer its normally food. Excellent video thankfully becauae of all my resesrch I avoided all these!

Not the expert myself but we give our about 7 month old dragon some collard greens and swiss chard as well as squash and blueberries. Agree 100% on your point about cats. I used to keep mantises when I was in college but when I got back home and ended up with two cats (whom I loved dearly), I didn't get another mantis or exotic animal after my last one passed naturally. I love reptiles and amphibians as well as mantises, but I'd never get one while having cats. No matter what people say about them, they have a natural instinct to hunt small prey. You never know if they're going to turn and seeing videos of them with reptiles and birds always makes me anxious. One of my cats, as a little kitten, slipped outside under our feet and came back 15 minutes later with a fledgling robin. We never taught her to do that and we found her when she was too little to do something like that. I never let my cats outside and they still find a way to bring me things. Mainly bugs, but twice they've killed rats the size of an adult beardie. I'd also say that it's a risk to own terrier dogs or other breeds bred for catching prey. I think the risk is smaller, but it's not something I'd chance either.
@peeppeeped2 жыл бұрын
as someone that has always grown up with reptiles, birds, that sort of thing, typically the birds aren't really afraid of the cats and won't hesitate to peck the living hell out of the kitty if they try anything so you probably don't have anything to worry about bird wise.

What are your thoughts on a hammock as a basking spot also I have seen many people have big water bowls that their dragons lay in and wanted to know if it’s a good idea
@ellesreptiles3 жыл бұрын
My thoughts on hammocks - it can definitely be a bit difficult to get the surface temp of a hammock high enough for basking without making the air temp too high. So usually they're not the best. Big water dishes can be fine, as long as it doesn't affect your humidity. So if you live in a drier part of the world, a big water dish may be fine - even necessary. That one just depends on individual circumstance

Dead insects aren’t healthy for them, and spinach shouldn’t be fed regularly since it’s a calcium binder. Live crickets, roaches, silkworms, and black soldier fly larvae can be fed regularly. Mealworms, super worms, and hornworms can be fed occasionally. Good staple veggies include Collard greens, mustard greens, cilantro, squash, dandelion greens, rocket, and turnip greens. I was planning on taking him 3.5 months after adoption, and he got sick & passed away 3 months after adoption. I had the money to take him on time, but i decided to wait for covid restrictions to end so i could see what the vet was doing to make sure everything was done right. Don't wait, beardies are prey animals, and that means they usually won't act sick until its too late!

I had no idea that mealworms can cause impaction on baby bearded dragons and that is all I have been feeding my 3 month old bearded dragon. Can anyone tell me what I should feed her because she doesn’t want to eat anything that is not a mealworm and now she is extremely underweight that I can see her hip bones pls help

What do you feed 1000 crickets in order to keep them alive?

i got a new bearded dragon a week ago, my older one passed away due to liver cancer and i was wondering if there is someone knows if something is wrong with my baby beardie? Hes 6 months old, born 20th of august and he refuses to open his eyes too much? He sleeps almost all day. Recently he started taking bugs and eats his salad but he doesnt take it from hand feeding or the tong only feed bowl. his temps are perfect i have a temperature gun to measure and my husbandry should be about right so does anyone have advice for me ??

What’s the basking spot surface temperature? Which specific bulb are you using for UVB? Where’d you get him from?

Around what age should you start to change their diet to more salad then bugs?

Would dogs do the same as the cats?

Depends on the dog, I know somebody who had a Parrot for 25 years and had multiple dogs in that time with no issue. She fostered a dog for a rescue and within the first week the dog broke into the cage and killed the Parrot. She was absolutely devastated.

Iguanas are the pet Lizards that only eat fruits and vegetables right? Seems like an easier diet for a pet Iguana but heard iguanas get very big.

I have a question that I can’t find an answer for and hoping you could answer it. Why would my female bearded dragon be walking backwards a lot lately? Eggs maybe?
