Microphones sound great, Greg! 👍 Sandy and Ellen's house is progressing nicely. Good idea for a cistern. Dry season can be tricky, and having extra water for plants and emergencies (wild fires?) could be a lifesaver!

Hai Greg. nice progress. BUT the rebar of the beam can not end without a 90 the grades angle in a kolom. Otherwise it is not secured in the kolom. Now the rebar is ending in the kolom without a angle. The most srtucture presure on the beams is in the first 100 centimetre from the kolom into a beam.

Appreciate the feedback. Building practices definitely vary here. One story home, so very little weight on the columns and beams. They used 16mm for the columns where one story homes here call for 12mm. Thanks for the information.

it would have been best if you painted the rebar with iron oxide primer before using them to prevent rust. a fine rust powder forms on the exterior of rebar and then the concrete is not in contact with the actual rebar. using some sahara water proofing in the concrete will help protect the rebar as well.
@buildingthephilippines5 ай бұрын
@justaguy-69 with all the miles of rebar in these homes, you would need a team of people to paint the rebar. Similar to painting your nails or screws in a traditional western home.

@peteswanson-j4i5 ай бұрын
yes i painted mine as well , once i saw all const here with chunks of cement that had fallen off and the rusty rebar inside. you could tell the rebar was separated from the cement before it failed. some of the rebar looks swollen too i'm sure that helped to push the concrete apart.

@@buildingthephilippines I assume you mean Zamboanguita. I'm watching in bed with a nearby sleeping family. My speakers are broken and headphones in another room. Good luck with your build. Be sure to test your blocks for strength. I've bought cinder blocks before that looked just like the ones we get in the USA , Canada or Europe, except they were cured improperly without steam, or not at all. I could kick a hole in them with sneakers. In fact, I'd be tempted to make my own, that's how bad the other ones were .... this was in Mexico mind you, but I wouldn't expect better in the Philippines. Tyler Ley has a great channel on concrete for lay people and how to make it much stronger.

the rebar in the ring beam is not supposed to 'end' there,in the corner, they need to bend 'around' the corner and be tie wired to the upright rebars in the column, and staggered at all different lengths, for example one may bend around the corner column rebar and extend 3 feet onto the adjacent wall, another may go around the corner and be 5 feet long past the corner, etc. then the next rebar continuing down that wall will overlap 3 foot of those and continue on. so all the places where the rebars are overlapping (joints) are not in the same place and are staggered. never have a rebar in the ring beam 'end' in the column or corner. never have the rebar joints in the same location. i dont know what you were talking about when you said "weld" what is going to be welded ?

the stirrups going around the upright rebars in the columns should have had their ends in the 'center' of the columns , not laying 'along side' the upright column rebars, that prevents them from opening in the event of an earthquake and allowing material to exit the column causing failure. its too late for that now and its not as important in the beams such as the ring beam, mostly its important in the support columns especially the bottom half where the weight is the greatest and movement in earthquakes is greatest. its also wise to have the stirrups spaced closer together at corners and where beams meet columns and beams meet beams and at the tops and bottoms of columns and ends of beams.

@@buildingthephilippines The 3 BR 2 Ba house I am renting is 84 square meters, interior measure. We do not use 2 of the bedrooms. I keep trying to learn how things are done here. I think I want 85 square meter loft house with kitchen island like yours and put bamboo guest house and outdoor bathroom for guests instead of a guest room that may be used only on rare occasion. I continue to be fascinated by the small kitchens in PI houses. I like to cook and can spend 2 hours slicing and dicing for a meal and on one extreme occasion spent nearly 5 hours on a meal. I do not want to look at a wall or cabinets when doing this. Stay well.

Lovely efficient layout. Great retirement home. Only concern, most who make such small guest bedroom regret not making it 2 ft wider , giving option to using a double bed comfortably. Currently, it appears it is only possible to have a single bed in the guest room. Marketability in the future is likely affected.

These may be the most well built homes in any country, developing or not. That house will be able to withstand Hurricanes and earthquakes. I read once that the Philippine islands are the most natural disaster prone place on earth. I’m glad they take building seriously.

Homes here are built very strong. Lots of concrete and rebar, all toes together. The Philippines islands are part of the ring of fire, so in the thick of things regarding volcanic activity and earthquakes. Don't forget about the Typhoons.

if you pay close attention you can see errors in the rebar design.. for an earthquake area especially !
