when she says women need to take responsibility, she’s not saying they need to take responsibility for being sexually assaulted/harassed. i think she means women and men are equal and women should be held to the same standards as men when it comes to taking responsibility for their actions (not necessarily harassment and assault just in general) she’s saying women are independent and strong
@purpledandelion75684 жыл бұрын
Yup i agree with you. I judged her too quickly without watching the whole interview. When she said it takes two to tango, she talked about women who choose to tango, not those who are forced to. doesn't mean she's not blaming weinstein but more of her own experience and she was quick to add about how she wasn't alone and it wasn't at night. Her saying weinstein didn't take advantage of her is not synonymous to her blaming the victims, she was just talking about her own experiences. She then talked about the need to have a better balance struck. She talked about her own experience having to learn how to bat eyelashes to get what she wanted etc.. Those lessons are taught to young girls that makes them believe flirting is some sort of empowerment and that is how some women end up in dangerous situataions at times. It's something that needs to be addressed and the facet of society that needs a change. I don't understand how she got hated on for this but from the whole interview, i 100% understood what she was talking. Its just the snippet of the video that makes people jump to conclusions.

@milly45435 жыл бұрын
No, I think she just meant to shed light on the fact that not every harassment situation evolves out of thin air. Kinda how you have someone punch another person for nothing and another after being provoked. In both cases it's assault and the person doing the punching is wrong but the lead up is different. If we want to be taken seriously, as women, we need to take responsibility for our actions in the same way we expect men to take responsibility for theirs. I think it's just no matter how you phrase it it comes out sounding off.

Ellen Pompeo seems like a great person but I don't agree with her views on asking Harvey Weinstein's victims to take some responsibility. Just because she had a nice civil chat with Weinstein during the day while she was in her mid to late 20s does not mean that (a) Weinstein did not find other actresses more attractive/docile, (b) 18-year olds who are trying to break into Hollywood would know that they can insist on meeting during the day and (c) anyone would know when a civil chat would turn violent or when light flirting would mean getting raped. I think she is saying that she is recognizing privilege without fully acknowledging her privilege.

I watched this with great interest because I wanted to see if, outside the all seeing Hollywood eyes, Ellen was as down to Earth as we are lead to believe. She made a few interesting statements, most noticeably the one about Patrick/Derek being her great love on the show and that he should not be forgotten or that any other male actor should replace him in her affections. There was then, in my opinion, a contradiction when she said she would happily pick up the phone and help any past cast members as she loved them all - so why, for the 300th promo did she not recognise that fans would be outraged that Patrick was not in a single clip of the promo after 11 seasons nor Katherine Heigl after 6 and TR Knight after 5? if she is so close to Shonda Rimes (who told Ellen ‘the show can come to it’s conclusion anytime she feels ready to end it’ ) did she not understand the importance of these omissions to dedicated fans? Patrick formed the backbone/foundation of GA’s success and all bad feelings and animosity aside (as the press has speculated) it was very poor form. My conclusion is she is perhaps not so down to Earth, although still likeable, but someone who likes to be in control and of number one importance.
@eternallove556 жыл бұрын
I don't think she's all that down to earth at all. She definitely gives off the vibe that she's number one. She'd even said in an interview that she was hesitant to even do Grey's Anatomy because it's a tv show and she was supposed to be a movie star. Seems a bit conceited.
@itzelanett2966 жыл бұрын
I don't believe that she had a say in the promo for the 300th episode. We also don't know if any conversations where held behind closed doors about that topic. Let's be realistic as well. If the actors/actresses had differences with cast or executives it's not likely that they will be included regardless of the fact that they are a fan favorite.

You assumed what the inner workings of the writer's room is like. Is there some offical press release of that process and who all has a say in every episode? You also assume Ellen didn't advocate for those people. Maybe Heigl, Knight and Dempsey didn't WANT to come back? Maybe Ellen was told no? I also think your opinion of Dempsey's character being a backbone/foundation of the show is pretty subjective and therefore irrelevant. All in all, you assumed a lot about this situation and it's crazy to me that you think you didn't.

I found this interview very strange, cause her views about balance, responsibility, accountability, genders, do not match today’s feminist ideology. They do not match the show after season 12. She says “it takes two to tango”, “I wouldn’t have walked into his office at night time”, that’s all anti feminism, and I agree w her. (And In some cases there’s nothing a person can do, i know) So I wonder who has pushed for the show to turn to feminist ideology propaganda?Wonder if this happened after Disney bought ABC? Back in 2005 when the show started we were all ready and happy w making things fair. Having all races and both genders included, but the show has turned into something else. And we have been w these characters for over 10 years so we know! In one of the latests episodes Miranda Bailey says she hears the damn patriarchy in her head telling her what to do or not do. This is bullshit! We have seen her whole career and no man has ever stood on her way. If anything, men have been nothing but amazing towards her! Who is the patriarchy she talks about? George!? Richard!? Derek!? Owen!? Alex!? Who has stood on her way to block her from becoming one of the most successful people in her field?!
@churblefurbles6 жыл бұрын
Worse than that their entire narrative is fictional. This demand for representation flies in the face of their own ratings, which is overwhelmingly dominated by female viewership, which if judged by their own standards would mean they were failing at attracting an equal audience, and thus failing at "representation". There was a time when Friends would draw 24 million viewers an episode, Greys is lucky to draw 7 now, the men have left, and they are left crowing that they won a shrinking pie, and really who wins at all, TV is a waste of peoples time, in fact the most afflicted by this poison are the African American community who watch 40 hours a week, the correlations aren't good at all, and its all the same corporate leftism. Like with Star Bucks, if they really cared about black people they wouldn't serve them at all, because its a rip off, its a waste of money, its nothing to be proud of at all, its simply mindless consumer culture.
@esraolayan33316 жыл бұрын
Bailey's ex-husband didn't allow her to go to pediatrics , so she got divorced and went to General this is an example of patriarchy on his part and feminism on hers.
@eval79526 жыл бұрын
Esra olayan that sounds like an example of two people in a marriage. On the latests episodes Bailey’s new husband had to get permission from Bailey to become a fire fighter, and she’s still not happy w him. It’s almost as if she’s the boss and he has to hide from her. It’s almost as if she has more power than him. So if u watch Baileys marriages whenever she’s not in full control she’s not happy. It’s almost as if Bailey is the patriarchy and her husbands or boyfriends are the submissive. Question. Who do u think has more power in Baileys relationships?
@esraolayan33316 жыл бұрын
she is bossy and we all know that since day one. as for the firefighter matter, she was not happy with because it is a dangerous profession.
@eval79526 жыл бұрын
Esra olayan so are u saying she’s got more power, more of a say, in her relationships? Are u saying that a 4 feet tall, not in good physical shape woman, has more power than two very muscular, very fit, very tall men? But why did her ex husband not want her to go into pediatrics? It may not be dangerous but it’s time consuming and it affects him. We have to know why he didn’t want her to do that. That doesn’t sound like patriarchy, sounds like a marriage. My whole point is that feminism says women have less power than men and I’m saying the truth is the opposite. I’m saying women have more power than men. Women dominate the market. There are less women CEOs but those men CEOs have to answer to women. More women vote than men, there may be more male politicians but all politicians need to cater to women or else. This show and whole channel are a perfect example, Disney as a corporation, almost all its products are designed at women. I can’t think of a show on abc right now that caters to mostly men.

But we live in a world dominated or push to dominate by a athinian Greek philosophy that devalues everything but the athinian male. Christianity was based more on Spartan philosophy with gave value and didn't want there woman living in fear. Christ improved this idea.

17:50 & 32:00 Some women are aware of their 'power of seduction' early on; however, that doesn't mean they're using it all the time or that, if they did, it would be wrong/immoral. And some women probably don't use it at all. In no way does this excuse abusive men (or women for that matter) for forcing themselves on more vulnerable humans. Unfortunately, it is men who are the primary abusers of women, so more men need to speak up for women and be courageous about it. Women can't do this themselves; this is not a 'women's issue.' It is a human issue. (I appreciate the questioner at 32:00 for her attempt to clarify what Ellen said at 17:50.)

She doesn’t but she is a proud mother and wife to African American people.she has always talked about how she knows everything is hard for her as a women but even harder for poc.she doesn’t talk as she knows all especially because she is Caucasian but she is aware of the world going on around her and how unfair and how things are for poc

It's interesting that a woman who says she has two nannies, one housekeeper, a personal assistant, and doesn't work on Friday doesn't have enough time to direct a tv show. It is almost as if differnt peopel value their time differntly.
@j0j011926 жыл бұрын
woodchuck 00 maybe she has all those people because she’s been directing? Which is why she said she won’t be doing it anymore...
@woodchuck0036 жыл бұрын
All I am saying is that different people have different priorities, this is why people make different choices. Now since she believes in intersectionalism I will use her logic. If a woman of her privilege doesn't want to make directing a priority then it is curious why she expects people of a lower income level to make the opposite choice. Awell Ellen has created a business to try a push her ideology, something that is admirable, she has allies who would like to use authoritarian power (the goverment) to adcive their goals.

She works around 16 hours a day 4 days a week and more when directing. No normal person would want to do it in the long run if their family comes first.

It was very interesting until questions were invited from the floor at which point it just became a series of fan-based questions that wasted time. Bad enough that it wasted our time, but it also wasted the time of this very accomplished woman. These are students from Oxford University for pity's sake. There was a time when our future would have been in their hands. "What is your favourite episode?" The world is no longer in safe hands. These people are twits of the first order.

I disagree with you. All of them have the right to ask their questions and there were many more questions than just the one you have quoted. I doubt that's anybody's waste of time. If you cannot appreciate the admiration these people have for Ellen and the fact that she values this, this is solely your problem. Don't spread your negativity please!
@bobnixon43426 жыл бұрын
Veronica, I'm happy to be disagreed with but I dislike being told that I should not spread my negativity. By negativity, I assume you mean opinion. I insist on my right to express my opinion. I defend your right to express yours. This Q&A session was a disgrace and I encourage you to look at similar Oxford Union examinations of other Hollywood actors. I genuinely feel that the difference that this was a female. The questions, compared to others - look at Paul Giamatti and Ben Miller as examples, were shallow. As I previously stated, Oxford students really should be capable of better,

Christ tough love and to be greatfull for life. To be this you must see the intrinsic value of life itself. That everything belongs has value wasn't created for nothing. Like your Darwinism.

She kind of doesn't.., and when she does it's bc it's too boring of a question. So she levels it up, talks about what she wants and makes it more interesting. It's called having confidence and personality.

This constant demand for representation is revealed for what it is, special pleading when one looks at the viewership demographics of Grey's Anatomy, its overwhelmingly viewed by women. But this is the thing, this also applies to the rest of network tv, where men have simply abandoned tv in general while total viewership of the networks continues to shrink. I'm not sure its something to brag about that women are wasting more time watching mindless entertainment. Its become clear that middle aged female protagonist tv has become pervasive, so its time to stop acting like this is a surprise or a new achievement. Why certain stories don't work with each gender isn't something Hollywood really wants to answer. Jordan Peterson and such have answers, which should be obvious but aren't anymore because of the pervasive denial of reality we have today. I mean just look at the whole "metoo" thing, it should be glaringly obvious "these men" didn't learn it from others, they are your men, they are the lefts male feminist men, fully indoctrinated in and repeating your lines, so you can't claim there isn't "education". One should question what types have been attracted to this profession, and with their highly tribalistic and nepotistic tendencies, what have they actually selected for. There is this constant claim of under representation, well then, how many conservatives are in Hollywood, dare I ask how many Trump voters she knows.... "representation" rings hollow. Its all about promoting what's "stunning and brave" hardly takes courage within Hollywood circles to virtue signal that you lean left.
