As someone who grew up with Grey's and watched it from season one, I will never forget the emotional depth Heigl gave to Izzie. I will also never forget how bad she had it... She was canceled before cancel culture ever existed and just labeled a "bitch" for simply being a strong woman. FACT: Majority of Grey’s iconic scenes involve Izzie and that giant pink ball gown. It was that Season 2 Finale with Izzie, Denny and Alex (with Chasing Cars song) that sealed the deal for Grey’s Anatomy and promoted it from popular to phenomenal. @nickimorelli9991
@nickimorelli9991 11 ай бұрын
@@edum.6353 It was not sexism it was unprofessional plain & simple. KH came to another actor's defense when he was being bullied for being gay. She was hailed a hero which she really was. But then she started complaining about the long hours and other things on set she did not like. OK. But then she came out and denounced the writers because she thought she deserved a better storyline. It was an ensemble show. It could not be all about Izzie all the time. So she became viewed as problematic but rightfully so on some level. If she was that unhappy she had many other options, including the choice to quit. @@hollywoodshopaholic I honestly don't think she got too big for her britches - being honest about the writing on Grey's by not wanting her name submitted for Emmy consideration, and calling a Judd Apatow -- you know, the boy's club director (and I say this as someone who's generally enjoyed his work) -- movie sexist is just, like, integrity? The Emmys thing was a bit rude but c'mon, Shonda is notorious for making shows that start pretty good and then quickly go off the rails, to the point where I can't bear starting a new Shonda show because I know I'll get burned no matter how much I enjoy the first season. “But who are you? Who are you without all the opinions of who you are?” This right here is it. A lot of us don’t even know who we are because of other people. We are a different person to different people and we allow opinions of other define us. Taking a step back and tuning all the noise to look inwards and think about yourself, makes all the difference. Learning yourself for yourself fixes a need to give anyone a different version. Everyone gets one version, whether they like it or not because you no longer care about being liked or what they have to say about you.

I almost don't want to call it a performance--feels like she's tapping into a very real part of her (and many of us) who is internally deeply vulnerable/wanting love but somehow just a tad more courageous & bold than yoked to the validation of others! Heigl as Izzie is one of the most iconic roles of my generation. I look at some of her scenes on Grey’s sometimes and I feel everything I felt when I was 15. She was blackballed so unfairly. Just a woman who couldn’t be silenced. And execs hate that. She was dangerous to their structure and that’s why she was the “bad guy”. She is such an amazing actress and the show lost a lot of heart when they wrote her out.

Katherine was the Gen Z of the original Grey's. She stood up for herself, she demanded respect, she refused to be another cog in the wheel. She was bold, and unapologetic before it was ok for women to do that. She still is, all of those things but still a very humble person who recognizes her growth, maturity and autonomy. This is a phenomenal conversation that displays deep respect for one another, even though they were treated so differently.

OP is missing the entire point then which Gen Z largely seems to do as a whole when they routinely dismiss or overlook the shoulders of powerful women upon which they stand who came before them. Katherine Heigl wasn’t the Gen Z of anything. She was a woman of her time; she just wasn’t appreciated or respected for it. If we're being real here: Katherine was villainized and thrown out like trash by Grey's and the entire industry for being a woman who spoke up for herself and her career in a time when that was not normalized. On the flip side, Ellen has been able to grow with the times and success of the show into a position where she can unabashedly speak up for herself and her career with no backlash. This conversation affirmed that Katherine was ahead of her time and deserves all of the success because she has the talent and morals to back it up. Shonda didn’t do anything to her. She merely removed a big star to protect her staff writers. Heigl had made a stupid and unnecessary statement that made it impossible for the writers room to get an Emmy that year. Writers are the most under appreciated part of showbiz and winning an Emmy as a young writer can change your career. But because she was a rising film actress it didn’t occur to her that she was hurting peoples careers. She’s still never apologised to “the little people”. She just plays victim and kisses up to Shonda to get back on her shows. Even Ellen at the end is telling her she messed up but she can now be forgiven. But once she broke off and started doing movies and stuff I loved her movies everything she starred in I loved it thought she was a great actress. So yea back then they were not letting her character grow very much at all. It became very limited. I knew there was a reason I loved her and after hearing this conversation between them just solidified that. ❤ But I love Greys Anatomy. I’ll be 28 in 2 days. And I’ve been watching Greys Anatomy since i was 10 years old. And I was 10 years old the year this show aired back in 2005. And im still watching it. So crazy that I’ve gotten to grow with show over the years through my childhood. I thought it was funny when Ellen mentioned her daughter about wanting to watch it and her daughter being in 6th grade. I was like yea I watched it when I was 10 my dad let me watch it with him and of course if they were scenes I couldn’t watch he just said shield my eyes. Though I don’t remember having to do it a lot bcuz now thinking about it since the show is on ABC my dad probably thought we’ll when it comes to the sex scenes they don’t really show a lot anyway so yea haha. And blood and stuff didn’t bother me and my dad never said anything about having to shield my eyes for those scenes. And guess what I was never traumatized by any of it. I love Katherine in this interview. So natural and just comfortable in her views and what she was saying. She seems a person who feels things deeply, but at the same time wants things to be right. With the controversy around her being ‘demanding’ and leaving Greys, what she said was the truth but she said it at the wrong time, in the wrong way and to the wrong people. Ellen is just so eloquent and articulate. With things on Greys that needed to change she bided her time and said the right things at the right time, the right way and to the right people. It’s just solidifies that timing is everything.

@@lorrainesantos6745 Do not even waste your time asking these complete idiots who are as entitled as KH still is. She is a spoiled little brat who thought she was more important than everyone else and when she expected to be treated that way, she was rightfully kicked to the curb. The way these people say "she spoke the truth" when many were toddlers who never worked on a tv show is not only laughable it is insane. Look up the history yourself, see where her career is and decide for yourself.

It actually took her years to get the pay she deserved as the name sake of the show. The men always made more than her. So, yes, she should make all that money. She earned it.

The speech that Izzy gave to Denny right before cutting the LVAD wire was the reason I started watching Grey's Anatomy. Great acting, very emotional and relatable for some intense relationships.

I don't normally comment, but I was so impressed I had to. This was so lovely to witness. It's always nice to see what a healthy and safe conversation between women looks like. As a viewer I enjoyed the topics, the personal perspectives and the energy you ladies shared. Though I was watching I could also feel the mutual respect too. This shows how much growth has taken place on both of you're journeys. I Loved this. Thank you both. Just brilliant.

I can see why Katherine was perfect to portray Tully Hart. She is THAT confident, that amazing. I always loved her and was heartbroken for how she canceled. Izzie was my favorite character in Grey’s, and I really still hope for her to come back somehow, even for a few minutes. I love her and Ellen, such strong and confident women, they are THE example. I wish to be as strong as they are when I’m their age.

So happy for those two gorgeous successful women 🫶🏻 hope they’ll do an amazing job with protecting young actors or offering help on set like they said, and always speak their mind and be powerful.

Katie being a staunch ally to T.R. Knight when he was called a slur on set, funding an org that helps save dogs in honor of her brother who passed away, politely standing up for the crew and support cast for their brutally long working hours on Greys only to have it twisted into a big deal. I have always been a fan of hers and I hope she gets some better offers and scripts worthy of her talent to make up for the inaccurate media narrative around her in the past. ❤

I think Ellen is right. Some of the things that Katherine said back then that got her crucified are the things that most people would say today on social media, and it may not really affect their career. Even Ellen has since gone on to say that Katherine’s reference to the long hours that they had to work on Grey’s Anatomy - another thing that she got slammed for - was right. I feel bad that Katherine got so much flack for the things she said, but I’m glad to see that she’s in such a better place now, both personally and career-wise (I have been so into Firefly Lane). I truly enjoyed this conversation. I’d always suspected Katherine was kinda goofy in real life, but her sense of humour and the chemistry with Ellen really had me laughing so hard.

I saw Izzie Steven’s come out at 52:00-52:45. The passion. The certainty. The valor. The expressions. The facial gestures. It was Izzie when she was most passionate about things. I love that Katie was able to take back the narrative. Love you, Katie! And Ellen is such a badass and a source of insight and knowledge. She doesn’t just display grace but she IS GRACE (not Grey’s and no pun intended)

I really needed to hear that conversation especially on the 45-minute mark it was really relatable. I think every once in a while each person has a difficult situation and I may not be an actress but I completely understand where Catherine is feeling and I'm so relieved that both of these ladies that I grew up are very strong women and it's okay to cry or be vulnerable and then the next day you just try harder and just be better examples of yourself and with other people
