For the adults in the room that are commenting about Emma check the respect factor she is the youngest in the room and sometimes listening is better on these subjects. Omniscient 1 is this you God? I'd like to know because otherwise I don't understand how you can tell whether what is in her heart is genuine. @@sazizi3570 I can understand that what Ellen said didn't sit well with you... but I think you are missing the fundamental point she was trying to get across, which is "white privilege"... and unfortunately, because of your inability to comprehend this notion, you are part of the issue. Thinking it's "messed up" that she left an all white party because "race isn't your only identifying factor", and white people have "different upbringings", is perfectly dismissive of white privilege. White privilege is very real, and is one thing, that every white person in America has in common. To rationalize your statements by bringing up an all Hispanic, Black or Asian party makes no sense, since none of the aforementioned groups are born into the same privilege that is inherent with white people as a whole in America. White people come from all walks of life, but each white person in America, from birth, is considered and regarded higher than any minority (Hispanic, Black, White etc.). Minorities have to WORK to earn the basic regard that all white people are BORN to... that's what "white privilege" means. Until you understand that, I'm sure subsequent discussions focusing on race & privilege in America will not sit well with you.
@luvicandy6 жыл бұрын
@@sazizi3570 If any of this is lost on you, please understand that I'm not saying every white person in today's society made the choice to be privileged... rather, they were born into the privilege without choice (though the privileged roots are sprung out of human injustices ((Native American genocide, indentured servitude, slavery, etc.))... Ellen is essentially saying that white people must now make the choice to stand up against white privilege and stand for equality. The color of ones skin does not denote their worth.

Michael Dominick The biggest racial barriers are economic. I went to an art magnet school, learned computer graphics, film, and design when my parents couldn’t even afford to buy me a computer. Graduated with a GPA over 4.0. Had to work McDonalds, Retail, and Call Centers at minimum wage to pay my bills until I could “afford” anything close to what I needed to film, edit, and create. By the time I had the tools and started to get freelance jobs I was coming up fast to being 30 years old. Those that had support, got in and became my competition in their early 20s. They could afford to undercut my rates. All of that before we get into racial bias which I have experienced from clients and their own peers. I never cheated a client but they were kind enough to tell me what their colleagues thought about me.

This is exactly why Dania Gurira who plays Michonne on The Walking Dead should be paid the same if not more than Daryl and Carol. Ms. Danai is hitting the stratosphere of her career which comes with more responsibilities but who could handle that with more grace than her. A woman who is multitalented and is one of the main shines of the show. AMC should pay her more for all the aspects I just listed above, especially with TWD movies being planned and announced already with her co star Andrew Lincoln.

Yeah like Christina said for Meredith grey. : She is the sun. And she is unstoppable . She is a light in a broken system. I think this perfectly sum up Ellen Pompeo ❤️ and i love that all the women are discussing the truths. Sometimes as a viewer we don't think that they would have to go through this kind of problem. (Or its just i am ) But they do too. And it's heartbreaking. May all the women break this cycle. I loved this conversation .love how Gina and Gabrielle put their opinion. And i understand that Emma is youngest of them all so she just listened to them. Its actually wise. Loved these conversations.❤️❤️

I would have loved seeing somone like Constance Wu in the fourth chair. Because if you're going to speak about Women in Television and their struggle, you should include asians which is the least represented group in Hollywood, especially in roles that do not involve stereotypes. I have nothing against Emma Roberts, she is a talented lady and yes she's young but let's not forget that she's the niece of Julia Roberts and that her name alone gave her work opportunities that the other ladies did not have. Her interview for this issue of Porter was so bland and superficial compared to the other actresses, it really shows how disconnected she is from the real issues in Hollywood. When asked about what excites her the most about tv, her answer was "reality tv, like the housewives of Beverly Hills". Gabrielle Union's answer : creating opportunities for other people and making sure they are paid what they deserve.

Heard, felt, agreed. Especially about Asian actors altogether, then specifically Asian women in the industry. Also about the elder women’s contributions. However, Emma’s chair in the conversation is necessary, too. She can relate as a woman in a male-dominated industry. She listened very well, contributed when she related and had something to say. She is the youngest in the room, and a white American actress with family lineage in the industry. Utilizing the information exchanged here, she could potentially produce most change. Remember, we can’t just “preach to the choir”. 💜

I can't figure out why this doesn't have more attention and more likes than it does. This is beautiful, and absolutely spot on. Change doesn't happen overnight, and neither does healing. In order to make a difference, we all need to come together because all of this status and hierarchy nonsense is keeping us from focusing on what really matters in this world and to this planet. Inclusivity is something that should have always been complete. Equal pay for everyone should have never been a question. Thank you Ellen, Gabrielle, Gina and Emma for kickstarting something huge into the right direction. I have tremendous respect for all of you, what you have been through, and what you are doing. Ellen, whenever I am feeling like I need a good laugh or a good cry or even just a second away from life to breathe I turn on Grey's and my day instantly turns around. Thank you and I love you!

I’m a 21 yr old Latina and rarely watch KZbin videos much less one that is 20 mins+ - but when I saw all of my favorite actors together having a conversation I couldn’t help but not ignore it. I hope that as a young female I grow to have the courage to speak up in spaces and rooms when I see exclusion, like all these beautiful actress said. Thank you for making this video I would love to see more like it!

I teared up listening to this. What an amazing conversation. The fact that this is happening in the talent industry and they are so honest to speak about it, makes me feel more empowered to speak up my own truth. I have always been paid less for not being from the country I lived in. Now that I live in the USA it has become more real. I knew what was happening, I was aware of my situation and I have let that happen to myself. Every time I wanted to take a brave step and talk to a manager about a raise, I felt down, not strong enough or even as Gina said "I should be grateful for at least having this." God knows how many times I have cried because of frustration and impotence for not feeling I was valued for my work, because I know my worth. THANK YOU LADIES, THANK YOU FOR THIS CONVERSATION. Thank you for using your platform to make changes in the talent industry which I hope and pray that if we all work together and defend, protect and have each other's back, it won't only make a change in the talent industry but every industry in the world. From bar tenders to construction man, babysitters, receptionists , accountants, finance managers, housekeepers, uber drivers... WE ARE VALUABLE AND WE NEED TO STAND UP FOR OUR WORTH AND NOT CONFORM WITH THE LEAST.

ilykepink yes. it means something. if the person you love is affected by something . like discrimination, you are inherently touched emotionally. if my sister gets bullied for having autism, and I dont have autism, i can still feel her pain and be an activist for autism awareness. your point is bs.
