He actually didn’t do that. Anna Todd (the author) said that she tried to distance the character from the muse (Harry). And the singer didn’t have a comment about that. But I still believe she did harm in creating this character with a lot of toxic masculinity. I don’t know what she was thinking. I don’t see that for Harry at all.

I would never put you guys through that atrocious book series but as someone who read the books when they were on Wattpad and Hardin was still Harry while the other 1D members were also part of the plot (mostly zayn as the bigger bad boy to make Hardin look better in comparison), it really is as toxic as you think if not more so. He literally took the sheets she bled on when he took her virginity and showed it as proof to his "friends". He also did these things to NUMEROUS other girls. Also he was waaaay more manipulative, Tessa was a shitty character but everytime she tried to break away or demand more from him, he would turn on her and make HER feel like the problem. Claiming he loved her in the same breath as his many many lies, bring up how she doesn't trust him even tho he NEVER gave her a reason to. God it was awful, just 3+ books of that with 100+ chps, rinse and repeat. And then the plot tried to justify it with ✨just trauma things ✨ literally acknowledging Hardin's anger management issues but doing ZERO to make him grow. And she's just supposed to forgive him everytime bc "true love" even though she literally breaks down so many times, dealing with so much of his shit. I'll never forgive the publishing industry for picking THIS of all things to throw so much money at and market it as a romance to young girls 🤢 it's just beyond EVIL. (The movie really toned it down ofc)

Hahaha. I love how much they hate the boyfriend character because of how passive aggressive and annoying he is given that was a movie script change likely done to make the character dislikable and “worth cheating on.” Apparently in the book, he was just a sweet but boring guy. Also that Ellias and Cindy are guessing the end of the movie early on, haha.

@Rikrobat
@Rikrobat 2 жыл бұрын
@@jeffisjeff5511 - Oh absolutely! Cheating is never okay. But by making him seem stifling in the movie, it provides more obvious evidence that Tessa is unhappy in her relationship and wants something different. In the book, Noah is just kind, patient, devoted, etc., which makes Tessa's jump to Hardin look more selfish. But you can see how this change in the movie makes the general viewership less sympathetic to Noah.

@@Rikrobat yeah! In the second movie I was so mad she tried to slut shame someone like JEEZ who cares if she does stuff with a lot of men or whatever. As long as she doesn’t purposely spread STD’s, cheat on their lover (like if you want to be a slut make it clear to your lover type of stuff), or knowingly ruin a relationship (which would also he the others party’s fault for cheating) then i don’t see the problem! I honestly still didn’t let go of the slut shaming and cheating. In the first movie after she cheated and broke up with her boyfriend I was like “um so like…are we just gonna forget you broke your boyfriends heart? Or you’re still gonna have fun with that other guy?” But for some reason the movies were entertaining? Expect those sexual scenes. They made me do uncomfortable…btw when I looked on the most liked reviews at least on the book app they talked about how they loved it…which is concerning..they can like it, but the abuse guys….

Storytime: When I was in middle school, we had to choose a book to show our class and talk about it and one of my classmates chose After (the first one). Her presentation was just her basically talking nonstop about the book's plot and even the teacher told her to stop telling everything bc we wouldn't want to read it (and she was quite anoying, at least for me). When she was talking about Tessa, I remember one of my classmates comparing her to me! Maybe it was bc she conveied that Tessa was a nerd and itelligent (and a good girl) in general and at the time I liked the compliment. Nowadays, I hate to think that I was compared to this stupid character from a wattpad fanfic. If I knew at the time how bad this movie was, my self-esteem would have lowered so much. (Also, I don't think that classmate intended to offend me, we were just kids and we didn't get the memo at the time.)

Sooo storytime 😂 my roommates and I went to the theaters (the one that had like only three movie options type of theater). So anyways one late Friday night we went to watch 6 feet a part and once it finished we came out of the assigned theater room but we were all down to watch another movie. We scanned what sounded interesting between the other two options ( it was either After or some action film) and so we ended up picking After not knowing what it was about at all but the movie poster convinced us. Since it was the last showing it was only us, another group of girls in front of us and a elderly couple behind us. The girls were hilarious as they were commentating and the gasps from the couple 😂 We laughed so hard throughout because of how cringing the movie was. It wasn’t until after we got back to our apartment we looked up what it was all about that we laughed about it 😂 Edit: the movie five feet apart lol not 6 😂

Ok so I've read the entirety of this thing on Wattpad, like back in the day when Hardin was still shamelessly called Harry, when I was... what, 13 or something. And even then I only kept reading it because the writing style captivated me- the plot and the characters and everything was buckwild and not very memorable as evidenced by me lol, but the way she wrote was really seamless (or seemed so to me at 13). I haven't watched the movie bcs I value my sanity and I have taste now, and tho I don't remember a lot of the book, I do remember it was way worse than what I've seen of the movie reviews. Anyway this is a caution to anyone wanting to read the books- just don't. The story drags on way too much, everyone's either dumb or toxic or straight up abusive, it's disgusting and very upsetting at times, and you'll come out of the series, if you even manage to finish it (that would be a feat), having lost hours of your time and having gained nothing. Someone mentioned heartstopper in the comments, and that's absolutely the opposite of this trash series- if you're bored, go make your life a little better by read the adorable comics. Also, unrelated, but I love your hair ellias :D It's really cute and the highlights suit you. Hope you have a wonderful day! (And buy yourself a treat for having sat through that boring nightmare)

Oh trust me Hardin is a million times more toxic in the books 😂 (and yeah I put myself through 2 weeks of agonizing torture as I was reading this series and I wish I could get that time back). The movies made the story a lot less problematic

I read this waaayy before when it was still fan fiction for harry styles, it wasn’t that good, but also, they totally could’ve chosen a better name than hardin. 😂

You probably won't read this post. But, as a person in recovery from drugs and alcohol, this movie series is one big PSA for Alcoholics Anonymous, and our sister group Al-anon.

Okay! Movie was bad but this series was so fast to read. You won’t believe me if I said I read the whole series in a week as a newbie reader. I enjoyed it inspite of it being toxic. Well, as an adult I don’t really like it as much as I did when I read it. The sequel is way better. You should react to it. This reaction was so much fun.
