"This girl I was friends with, but also terrified of, but also kind of into" is the most relatable quote I've ever heard

as far as I know Public High schools differ a lot based on the location but ellie sounds like she missed all the cool stuff xD. While Bo sounds like he went to one of those Movie high schools where half the kids had Juvie records

People just don't remember how segregated public school is. I once accidentally joined an inter-school gang warfare and run faster than shared taxi to dodge (no, actually. I think I ran like 35 km/h out of fear)

My public high school experience was similar to Bo's. Everyone was constantly throwing hands and *EVERYONE* was doing drugs. The teachers, students and a good amount of the faculty staff were all doing hard drugs or they had a water bottle full of one of the many colorless liquors. Now that I think about it, it makes a lot of sense why we were always fighting.

That's nothing, my school here in the north of the UK had a full blown Pub in the basement which was great :D (you were only allowed in when in year 10 and year 11). Our school also had a Cresh just across the hall from the pub so that the teen moms could drop their own kids off and then go to class. I also remember once being in French class when suddenly a kid came crashing through the very thin wood and glass wall that divided the classroom and the corridor. The kid knocked over the tables and landed on the floor only for another teacher to step through the hole in the wall with a blooded nose. the kid got back up and there was a brief fight before the kid left the room followed by his girlfriend. There was glass everywhere and the fighting teacher went to clean up his face. Later that night the school bus was set alight and almost took a part of the school building with it. Everyone knew it was the kid from the fight but the school was reluctant for the cops to get involved as it turned out the teacher started the fight by being caught by the kid trying it on with his girlfriend. Alf's was one hell of a school. Its a Medical Centre now which is nice, the pub is gone though which is not nice lol

I was never involved with or even _saw_ the drama and other stuff that went down at my high school, but I was chill enough with just about everyone who was to always _hear_ about everything. Having multiple sides of the same story meant I almost always had more info than some of the other parties actually involved in the shit that went down lol

Main reasons for the girl dress code is: To stop girls competing with each other ( on multiple levels) To desexualize girls which helps male teachers do their role without accusations of harassment, sexualisation etc or being distracted. To stop young men focusing too much on the girls. To disincentivise teen girls behaving or appearing in a more "mature" and inappropriate manner.

TBH, I'm a proponent for dress code for both genders. But some school have it ridiculous, for BOTH genders.

@KWifler16 күн бұрын
It's hard to imagine that people don't know why girls have to dress a certain way. It's to help boys be able to study without being too distracted. I don't know if it actually has any benefit, but that's the reason. There was a big scare about teen boys and blacks roping the girls because they dress too provocatively. The term provocative in this context specifically means to provoke a man to rope a woman.
@Ragnell12316 күн бұрын
Out of all the arguments I've heard in regards to the dress code debate, this has to be the dumbest. Not only has this never been the reason for dress codes, but it also manages to be sexist towards both men and women, and also racist to boot.
@maximusthedude830516 күн бұрын
Sorry, this is just right wing propaganda drivel. The problem of women being assaulted is not because they dress provocatively, but because we fail to teach men and boys to respect them and have healthy attitudes. In fact, this whole narrative actually worsens the problem, because by labelling certain outfits as "provocative" (even when on teenagers!!) we reinforce the idea that women who dress that way secretly want our sexual attention, leading to far worse sexualisation by men. Also, as someone who was once a teenage boy, there are literally thousands of things that can be "distracting" to them. Maybe we should teach them how to cope with that instead of blaming their problems on women?

@TheAyanamiRei14 күн бұрын
Except it ENCOURAGES sexual attacks later, by playing into Rape Culture. That boys can't control themselves, and girls need to cover up if they want to be respected and such.
@jaybee921315 күн бұрын
For the dress code, you are in school to learn and not to be in a fashion show right??? Just dress appropriately both men and women
@TheAyanamiRei14 күн бұрын
The issue is that guy fashion is about Covering up so it's NOT Fair. Plus as Ellie said, it's BS if you claim a certain length, but it's Adult vs Kid size measurement. Plus, why are shoulders considered so taboo? Shouldn't we be teaching Boys CONTROL and RESPONSIBILITY?! Like you can't say you sucked at your job, because a customer or employee was dressed too sexy.
