I love how Aster was already curious/interested with Ellie even after the letters. She was already on her radar she just didn't know what it meant at that time. And I'm glad they didn't make Ellie a mumbling fool in front of Aster. She's a little awkward but not embarrassing awkward but cute awkward.

i never seen a movie with so much sincerity and honesty portraying different kinds of love, the half of it is really worth it huhu! i love how ellie's trail of thoughts is so different and so beautiful. how she expresses her self like she never been a stranger in love before. how aster unconsciously just be herself whenever she's with ellie and how paul supports in the end. it's so beautiful ugggh i criii!!

The story revolve around them. Aster already had interest in Ellie and, Ellie to Aster. Is just that they were polar opposites in the spectrum of popularity within their schools, both are unsure with their sexuality, they were living in a conservative town. The guy was the bridge for them to reach each other. This song really represents their romance. "I dont want the world to see me cause I dont think that they'd understand", a lot of people would have judge them if they individually came out of the closet. "I just want you to know who I am" they chose each other to reveal each one's identities. they are willing to risk being exposed to the person they love in hopes that each will accept the other whole heartedly.

OMG. She’s 18. Very religious. There are many reasons that she would want to be straight or convince herself that she likes boys. She herself said she knew something was off but she WANTED the letter writer to be Paul because it would be easier. She could be bi or pan or lesbian or only gay for Ellie, but just because she dated a guy or kissed a guy doesn’t mean anything, especially at that age.

Seems like Aster really had some feeling to Ellie at the beginning. Like two soulmates meet each other? She tried to seek Ellie’s soul when she was with Paul. 1st was the book she gave him when they first met, 2nd was when she asked him “do you believe in God” and she seemed disappointed when he said yes. So in some way, i think she really considered the one who texted her was Ellie. However, her region and her belief did’t let her admit that.

Has anyone thought of how when they were floating in the hot spring it resembled the two-faced, four-limbed greek person in the openning sequence. The one who was whole with love before they got torn apart? And also how that scene was (well besides the kiss) "the best part" for Ellie and Aster because we could clearly see they were meant to be.

The hot spring part was the best part for me too. I love that very intense scene where Ellie felt like Aster was gonna do something to her when she was about to get out of the hot spring to get the radio. Ellie was so awkward but sooo cute there. I only realized that the hot spring scene resembled the opening part of the movie when I watched the director's explanation.
