After have spent half of his lifesavings to become a her, he realized that he made a huge mistake, from which there was no return. I read the book and it's incredible disjointed and in my opinion also not well written. Each chapter is like its own essay and topics keep changing and morphing in and out of each other. Elliot has so many friends and they just keep talking about so many of them I just felt like dang, I've never had hundreds of friends like that, how do they have THAT MANY FRIENDS? And I couldn't keep track of them all. They didn't really go deeply into their feelings except to say over and over the very generic stuff about wanting to wear boy clothes or play with boy toys. That's kind of it. This title says "opens up" and I did not feel like we found out anything they have not already mentioned in interviews. The memoir also is NOT about "coming out as trans". It doesn't make an intimate journey into how Elliot started to feel initially, when they realized they were not a girl, why they chose acting as a profession since it is so extremely body focused. He asks why everyone is obsessed with his body, but the entire book is ABOUT HIS BODY. There are a lot of words in the book but very little said. He got paid 3 million dollars to tell us something generic, and not allow us to really understand anything more about him and his journey. I feel there are so many questions and Elliot is not ready or willing to answer them. Not worth buying but check it out from a library if you're curious. I bought it and feel like I just didn't learn anything about Elliot I didn't already know.

I wanted to be a boy when I was around 8 years old. Boys get to have cool cars, they can play whatever they want, play outside til late. I grew up being boyish, I have been asked several times if I’m lesbian. I knew I wasn’t, but it’s odd coz I don’t like girly stuff. I wanted to be a boy because of what boys can get/have or experience. I hated being girly. Eventually, I realized I can wear whatever I want. I can be feminine and boyish. That blue is also for girls, cars is also for girls. I was able to embrace who I am when I accepted that I can do and have whatever I want. I can wear boys clothes if I want to, I can wear girls clothes if I want to. But I am a woman, with a vagina with an XX chromosomes. I think those who have gender dysphoria, they aren’t proving their existence to others but to themselves. I can only imagine their struggle. It must be difficult to be in a body where you couldn’t accept, where it felt so wrong.

It’s funny because when you say all of the freeing things being a boy is, it’s in many ways the exact opposite. Yes, you can certainly have more perks as a child while being a boy, but God knows when you’re a male adult - especially one that doesn’t fit the typical mold as a boy - not only are you stigmatized by women, but also by men for not conforming and fitting the exact, rigid mold of what being a man is. Other than hyper-sexuality, women can socialize, wear (within reason - more the pants vs. dress dichotomy), think and do as they please without being judged in society.

Where does the acting career go from here though? Kind of wonder if she’ll only be cast as a transgender person from now on. I also wonder if she’s “happier” now that she has transitioned. Many want to present that way, but don’t mention the real struggles they deal with. I don’t understand why you can’t be yourself and just dress and act however you want to without the hormones, and the mutilation of the body, if gender roles and expectations truly don’t matter. Her changing herself to be a “boy” proves that there are differences. But at the same time the differences don’t want to be acknowledged. It’s strange to me. But I do feel compassion for her…

I don't think generally people don't believe trans people exist. I have an issue with the phrase "assigned at birth". What is noted at birth is someone's reproductive sexual anatomy. That with very rare exceptions, is objective and easily measured, not subjective. Historically sex and gender were used interchangeably. In current discussion gender is being used to describe a person emotional state which is not always correlated to their reproductive physiology. Many sex/gender aligned people the phrase "assigned at birth" at best dismissive and at worst insulting .

I think you are right, the sex assigned at birth is objective and not subjective but gender isn’t the same at sex, it is the emotional state as you call it and it can differ from the sex which is how people are trans and I think many trans people don’t want to be associated with that sex assigned at birth so they call it just that but it doesn’t mean it isn’t real

"objective and easily measured" "very rare exceptions" These are contradictions. If it were really an objective and precise thing, there wouldn't BE exceptions. Like most things in life, there exists a grey area (intersex people exist and most don't appreciate the constant dismissal of their biology). But that's not even relevant here, because "sex assigned at birth" is just a phrase used to differentiate from the sex you identify with now. At birth you're "assigned" a sex based on your sexual anatomy, but you may later reject that. No need for the semantic debate.

Gender affirming care is care for the spirit, not the body. Therefore it doesn’t belong in institutions that affect the spiritually divergent masses, and it especially doesn’t belong in a child’s school curriculum. If Elliot Page and others like her are truly at peace with this path, they should have the strength to walk alone. Sadly, I believe it is incredibly rare for the spirit of woman to reside in a man’s body and vice versa, and many have chosen to transition as a result of a very harmful political agenda that is a deliberate attack on biological truth and the spiritual resolve and reproductive health of the masses. We have a common enemy - the top 1% that wishes to cripple and enslave us for purposes of self preservation alone.

Elliot's struggles are valid and different, it's so easy to tell a stranger to just don't care what people think, but it doesn't solve the problem, people react and experience things differently, dismissing it because you do it this way doesn't help, not everyone can be like you, and vice versa. don't worry, this person doesn't have any gender dysphoria either. a snippet from her book "We crept in, whispering, and sped into a stall, looking at each other with mischievous smirks. Lips smacking, he put this hand on my breasts, my nipples grew hard..." then she cuts her boobs off claiming it "cured" the dysphoria. it's all public stunt and she's doing harm to real transsexual people by appropriating their culture and by advertising harmful trans agenda, advocates for kids to be involved into this.

Me neither but I don't know if encouraging people to change themselves entirely is the answer. It's a very permanent thing to erase the identity you had and become someone totally different and many people don't even get a psych eval before being given hormones or blockers and I'm sorry but they are using inclusivity as an excuse to push a money making agenda and a lot of people are going to be screwed up because of it. Sure, it's the right road for some people but this has turned into a trend. If someone is confused they can easily be pushed into believing they are trans and need to change themselves and that's dangerous. I don't want anyone to feel uncomfortable in their own skin but I feel like we are sending the wrong message here and making people think it's okay to erase yourself. We all have things about ourselves we don't like and learning to accept the good and the bad is part of life so I have a hard time understanding how this is healthy but I am still learning about all of this too.

its torture - you go to a mirror expecting a face and a body shape and while you know what you will look at once you see yourself in the mirror its also always a surprise... a negative one at that. you lean on a wall and depending on what gender you are and what sex you are, you may be horrified to notice that your head wont reach the wall that you lean on because youre shoulders are so wide or in the reverse that your head reaches it so incredibly soon. you go to the toilet and expecting to pee with a certain type of genitals but either you feel mutilated because the expected penis is missing, or you feel like some cancerous object is growing in the zone that is most precious to the human individuals. either way its hard to start peeing, especially when you are in public... when starting to transition after puberty (not having been given the opportunity to use puberty-blockers - and not having been given the opportunity to socially transition) it can be kind of a worse feeling that being given the diagnosis of a terminal disease. with a terminal disease, you have the opportunity of hope that the life living with this disease may still be worth living, and you may surpass your expiry date. but being trans... you have no opportunity, no support from anyone and not even hope to get back what you have lost: your missed out childhood - its in the past. its already been demolished. its gone for good. its gone. there is no return. there is nothing you can do to make the pain of having lost the most important part of your life go away. its like a fever-dream that has become your reality, and you will never ever be able to wake up from it. your lifes history is pure garbage. all of youre memories of the past are pain and suffering. but the worst part can be the following: because you live in a society that wants to see your kind being extinguished you have little hope for the future (you have - especially for certain things - but other aspects can overshadow this hope). you will always have to live in fear that someone may come after you. you always have to live in fear that you may be terminated from this cursed hell that everyone calls reality. Its a pure nightmare that has gone waaaayyyy too far but has become your actual life. this at least captures a small part of how i feel about myself - there are people out there that probably have it much, much worse than i do. the only thing that makes this nightmare become managable, is to transition - it makes you feel good about your present - it makes you feel be in sync with yourself. hrt at least has done that for me - i hope that surgeries that i have planned will make my life worth living - i cant even have sex as of now as i actually fear just the thought of doing that with my current body - it would feel sooo wrong! i may only lose my virginity in a few years from now after i got bottom surgery. im really looking forward to that :)

@@katalantra why all of you trans people have to be paranoid and negative about everything? no one gives a damn about you and no one is hunting you. its your illness speaking. I'd suggest to postpone transition and especially surgeries till you can manage your mental health to the point of sanity. who told you everyone were happy being kids? childhood is the worst darkest time of my life, never in my life I felt so bad. grow up buddy. it will fix 90% of your issues and only then proceed to mutilate and sterilize yourself.

I used to be a fan, but now I just look at him and there’s some deep sadness or confusion and just hope he really is okay. Maybe I’m misreading the awkward tho 🤷🏻‍♀️ perhaps his personality was just way different and more confident looking years ago. Even as a young person in hard candy was it? Incredible personality that just beamed through, gender aside. Wonder if someone else sees this too.

I am so tired of people trying to decide how Elliot feels FOR him. The only reason y'all are concerned about how he feels is because you're so badly trying to spin this in a transphobic light. You want an excuse to misgender him and deny him his autonomy when it's literalllyyyyy not any of your business. You know why he isn't grinning and smiling during this? It's because he's having to remember and talk about his DYSPHORIA THAT WAS EVEN WORSE WHEN HE WAS PRESENTING AS A CIS WOMAN. He wasn't happy! If this was me I wouldn't be happy either talking about it, I wouldn't be happy knowing hundreds of people out there would force me to detransition if it were up to them. I was miserable as a woman. I hated it SO much and I feel LEAGUES better as a man. Being trans was the best thing for me. I love being on testosterone and I've been waiting years to get top surgery. But we don't have to prove our feelings to anyone. Elliot doesn't owe anyone anything and if he says he's trans, then he is. Dysphoria is absolutely awful and if any of you actually knew what it felt like then maybe you'd understand even a smidge better without trying to downplay every single trans person out there who doesn't present or behave the way you want.

👍👏 Well said Toby! Good for you for speaking out & telling a bit of your courageous story. I'm Trans too, it's just galling when these highly ignorant hetero/cis-gendered ppl pass judgments on us. Demonize us. Using only THEIR lived experience as a cis person to try figure us out.🙄 Then tell us that it's nothing; "well, it's just clothes!" Or, " I was a tomboy too, but I grew out of it." Thankfully, my parents didn't care about my wearing "boys" clothes when I was a kid, so I did. My hair was short on my insistence too. When I was 9yrs old a teacher at school said for the next day's class recital, all the boys had to wear pants & the girls had to wear a dress or skirt. My heart sank. I was so shocked & devastated with the thought that I had to wear a dress to school. (This was 1978) I was a wreck & absolutely miserable for the rest of the day, night & on to the next morning; "D" day, I thought. Putting my one & only never worn skirt on, I walked out to the bus. It was excruciating! I felt SO humiliated. It felt so WRONG! I couldn't look at anyone when I got on the bus, I wanted to die. And, to top it all off the kids poked fun at me for wearing a dress! Hell, even they knew it wasn't right for me! When I arrived at school I learned the event was canceled, & I raced into the bathroom with my backpack & pulled out my blue jeans. I couldn't get that f*ck'n skirt off fast enough! (I'm in my 50s now, & let me tell you, I haven't worn a skirt or dress since that horrible experience!) Now, this is just one of a zillion painful Transgender experiences that I have had to deal with in my life. So, thanks brother for sharing. We all need to speak out & educate the ignorant masses with our personal Trans experiences. 🫶🏳️‍⚧️

@@kriskabin Thank you for such a thoughtful response! I appreciate you adding in your own experiences here too. Why people don't choose to listen to actual trans people eludes me. Somehow the tens of thousands who are living better than ever before thanks to their affirming care are less important than the like. 8 people who detransitioned due to not actually being trans? And every single accusation thrown at our community is the same exact dog whistles used for minority groups in the past. Remember when black men were accused of being out to hurt women? That they were sexual deviants who we should hide our wives and children from? Or what about gay people with the same. Exact. Things said about them? The very ads used calling gay men p/dophiles are on youtube, a simple click away. They want to pretend that we have 0 historical significance, and that being trans is nothing but a passing fad, but we've long, long been here for decades. You're proof of that too. And I am just....so tired of people acting like they know me better when they've never even met me. Literally no one is pushing any sort of agenda. Trans kids every day are getting beat and kicked out and sent to conversion camps simply for questioning their gender identity, and for what? Because their parents are too scared that their little boy wants to wear a longer piece of fabric? That their little girl just wants to be told "I'm proud of you, son"? It's utterly ridiculous.
