Seth LISTENS during his interviews. He rarely interrupts and basically lets his guests discuss what it is they are there TO discuss.

Yeah, I was actually fascinated by what they did. He gets his hair cut, comes out to the siblings and they basically go, "Huh. Ok. Cool. So let's get back to business." I don't think I've seen many LGBTQIA+ storylines that skip the angst like that. Kind of refreshing, to be honest. I mean, obviously not everyone gets immediately accepted like that, but this is a fantasy series, and a teachable moment for a lot of people. This is what someone transitioning COULD look like when approached with love and acceptance. It doesn't HAVE to be a big deal. The only reason it's seen as a big deal is because bigots have made a big deal of it to begin with.

Elliot's voice sounds to be in the mid-way stage of HRT, when it's cracking like going through a second puberty. His facial bone structure is also changing to a masculine one due to the testosterone treatments. I've watched numerous FTM transition videos (I'm not even trans, just intrigued by the transition process), but it's surreal seeing an established actor going through it on screen. Good for him, he's just living his life and in a happier place.

Essentially biologically we've been born the wrong way and we can't change that part of our brains but we can change our bodies so we're doing exactly that to make us feel better about who we are and as I said it doesn't hurt anyone, only makes us happier to feel comfortable in our own skin. @@chancemoody8448 In the first three sentences I thought you were ok, but then it took a turn with the last two. You fell off a cliff. Opinions are not facts and therefore they do not qualify as the truth. I run into many people (almost exclusively on the left) that do not understand the difference between an opinion and a fact. For example, I think that pineapple on pizza is disgusting. Pizza is savory to me. I like it meaty, salty, and savory. Adding pineapple to that mix completely destroys it. This is an opinion. If I were to say that some people enjoy pineapple on their pizza I would be stating a fact. My opinion is not a fact. It is not the truth. I have my moments where I’m not exactly clear in what I’m saying, but I do ok. Coherency is very important in the USMC. Fortunately I graduated from high school and then went on to earn my degrees while serving in the Marines. That primary and secondary education really helped me become what has been described as an outstanding Marine. During my 20 years I was able to rise through the ranks to Master Gunnery Sergeant. After serving my 20, I was honorably discharged. I still needed to support my family and so I went through the police academy and then joined the Sheriff’s Department in my county. Based on my prior military experience, I was fast tracked to Sergeant and I am called upon to handle more dangerous situations and other assignments. As I said, Seth is nothing special.

This is truly one of the most respectful interviews I’ve seen. Seth never interrupted Elliot, he let him talk, he asked unique questions but never overstepped or simply asked about him coming out and his surgeries. Not to celebrate Seth for the bare minimum, but that’s great to see coming from a cis man in his 40s. It’s so scary and difficult being a trans child/teenager, hearing Elliot Page gives me so much hope.

"that’s great to see coming from a cis man in his 40s". Its funny how those who don't want to be judged for who they are are so quick to judge people for who they are. You need to realize when you make statements like that, you have put people on the defensive that could and would be allies. The equation is never as simple as man in his 40's = bigot.

I took a Lyft earlier today. He was an older white cis het guy, very little demographically in common with me. But in that shirt ride we shared stories about growing up watching horror movies. I felt a little boost in my step after. I imagine that if we were curious about each other instead of focusing on negative differences we could all experience more little moments like that. As an RN, my science training indicates that dopamine is very powerful in producing feelings of pleasure. Whenever a human has an interaction with another human we get rewarded with a little dopamine. It's why we are social creatures.

future generations will laugh at us, just like we laugh at 16th and 17th century wigs, why the hell do we think it's okay to change gender, a person is confused, he has masculine or feminine qualities, but believes that if he is different from other people of the same sex, then perhaps he was born in the wrong body... There is so much wrong with this point of view, if you do not fit into the cultural idea of man or woman, this does not mean something is wrong with you, you just do not you know how to identify yourself in the body that nature has given you, we need to teach people who are so deeply entangled in themselves to develop these qualities within the framework of reality and not change their real sex to an artificial one, the chromosomes remain the same and you are not at all who you want to be, you are something incomprehensible, amorphous. I can't imagine how bizarre it must be to be transgender. Gender dysphoria must be a nightmare. Anyone who weathers such a trial with grace deserves my respect. And remember, their beliefs and their struggles have absolutely nothing to do with you. Just be kind, and treat them with the love they deserve as human beings on this earth. Whether you believe in gender labels or think it's stupid to refer to trans people as members of the opposite sex, just remind yourself of the 10,000 foot view: trans people are people. They have a finite time upon this earth just like the rest of us, and it behooves us all to love one another without condition. None of the rest of it matters. Make the world a better place through patience, love, and understanding. It's completely pointless to harbor negative emotion about it.

I grew up in a pretty religious conservative household and still hold some semi-conservative beliefs. I sometimes find myself subconsciously resisting the newness of things (couldn’t wrap my head around the importance of pronouns for the longest time). But even so, I’ve never been able to understand how some people have the audacity to tell others what to do with their bodies and minds. Like let’s say you’ve never met a trans person and the whole thing is foreign to you… that’s fine. It’s ok to be curious or even worried or scared when you learn about something so different from YOUR norm. But when that fear and worry turns to anger, discrimination, and threats… it’s just wrong. There’s no gray area. Queer/trans people don’t need our permission to live their lives with dignity and rights. It was NEVER our place to dictate whether their existence was right or wrong to begin with. As long as someone isn’t putting you in harm’s way, there’s no excuse to be hateful towards them (being uncomfortable or losing control doesn’t count). Live your own life and leave people to theirs.

Seconded on the applause for the interview. It's totally normal to go on press tours for new projects, but to have this extremely personal experience be the main talking point likely for every interview has got to be taxing. I think Seth did a good job focusing on the positives and the growth, though that one question did slip through about those who would respond with hate. I could almost feel second-hand anxiety from the litany of personal questions, but it's also really great to see trans individuals getting to be heard on the public stage and hopefully these things will become less novel and more accepted by the general public.

As an older white (Caucasian) male, I don't have the past life experiences with knowing anyone who has struggled with gender identity issues. I have to believe that I have, at some point, come across those who had to keep this a deep secret. I regret that in my ignorant past, I had to have made some pretty cringe worthy comments. But I am trying to grow as a human and not force myself to feel like I have to understand. I know it's not me who has to live their lives, but I DO have an obligation to treat others with dignity and respect. HER! SHE WILL ALWAYS be XX.....that is the ONE thing that is the SAME for ALL women.....and XY is the ONE thing that is the same for ALL men.... it is a classification system that doesn't account for feelings or perspectives. When a child crawls around on the ground and purrs, they are "identifying" as a cat but at no point are they ACTUALLY anything but a human child, as dictated by DNA, not how the child "feels". Similarly, when someone is in a coma and isn't identifying as ANYTHING, do they cease to exist? Elliott Page had the same surgery as Angelina Jolie....but Angelina Jolie is still a woman. In fact, we go out of our way to express that a woman who gets breast surgery is NO LESS a WOMAN. The REALITY is, we have a portion of society, outcasts by society standards, that wants their personality type legally protected. But, if you protect one personality type, you have to protect them all. That means, if society must not just tolerate but accept and respect these oddballs, then society ALSO has to not just tolerate, but accept and respect the views of ignorant redneck racists, neo-nazis, conservatives, etc....That would also make it a hate crime for "jocks" to mock "nerds". I perfer to maintain my right to judge individuals based on their actions, not based on what group they WANT to be part of. Gender is not a choice. How you interact with the world IS a choice and it is NOT based on gender. Gender stereotypes are WRONG. Anyone thinking "I must be a guy because I identify with male gender stereotypes" is WRONG....MANY actual men do not identify with most male stereotypes, and it doesn't mean they are women. In fact, I'd say that a woman has a woman's brain and can only SPECULATE what it is to think like and feel like a men...and a man has a man's brain and can only SPECULATE what it is to think like and feel like a woman.
