As the Hispanic kid at a nearly all-white school, I hung out with a lot of Korean and Japanese kids growing up since I felt more included there. Always interesting hearing your perspective given that when I was eight, I wasn't exactly having insightful conversations about race with my friends. Great video, Elliot.
@Theoneandonly88able5 жыл бұрын
You would be included if you were actually Asian. Asians dont really hang out with other ethnic groups often. Not being mean, but it's just apart of the culture.

I’m glad you realized that your parents love you and wanted what’s best for you. Growing up as a white American in New Orleans, my parents don’t tell me they love me, they’ve never pushed me to do my homework or play sports or make friends, and they’ve definitely never made me lunch. Now that I’m 20 I really wish I played an instrument or was involved in extra curriculars or school in general

interestingly, as a German I can actually relate to your experiences. My mom also made my sister and I practice piano every single day (even though at one point we both hated it, but now as an adult I am so glad she forced us because now I am really happy that I can actually play it). And we also never really say "I love you" to each other in our family. Just the lunch experience for me was a little bit different than yours - we always ate at school, but in Germany the school lunches are actually cheap and healthy (and tasty for the most part). But yeah, apart from that, our mom always cooked at home and we did not eat out much.

Alex as a fan and subscriber I don't wish to belittle or take away from your heart-felt confession about not hearing the words "I love you" from your parents, that being said, you do not have to be Asian to experience this phenomenon. I am 60 and half-Sicilian and in the same boat as you :( Also, I have many Asian friends at my work and what you say in this video, seems to be a common theme among Asian people (again I mean no offense, I am just making an observation). Please keep making great content, I find you particularly interesting.

As an Indian, I can relate to you a lot, most Asian parents just have a different way of expressing their love for their children. They scold us only because they care for us and want us to be the best version of ourselves. Getting up early in the morning before us and packing our school lunch is just one of the indirect ways in which they express their love for their children. To any fellow Asian reading this, I'll suggest you not to grumble on every aspect and embrace your culture. Also, never think that your mom and dad are scolding you because they think that you're a failure, it's just the other way round..... sometimes we do tend to misunderstand them and judge them on the basis of their actions. And remember, when you're feeling down, it's always your parents who will try to help you out first, so never misunderstand them. Have a good day:)
