Bleach Smoothie I’m from Ethiopia and we also take our shoes off before entering our house. We tend to find it really gross. Also korean culture and Ethiopian culture is soooo similar. Have you ever thought that the fact that there are no direct translations to a word means that one society gave so much importance to that meaning that they made up a word for it while the other society didn't and so language carries the culture's way of thinking? I love how they're speaking, cause it's exactly how I talk most of the time. Especially when I have to talk in Persian, there's always some Dutch infused in it.. Sometimes it's not practical, for example with relatives from Iran, who aren't able to understand that one Dutch word you can't remember the Persian translation for. But most of the time this type of talking comes very handy, it's multi cultural and sounds very international to the ears.. I love being raised bilingual and I for most love seeing other immigrants talk in their mother language. We should always be proud of our origin and share our multi-cultural nurture into the western society, so that they're educated and aware of the story of how our parents raised us in an unknown country.

I came to America 3 years ago with my kids to do my doctorate. I was so surprised how much Korea has been recognized compared to the years of 1996-2000 when I was going to college in America. My son is treated like a K pop star in his school now because he just came from Korea and resembles a bit one of the members from BTS. My daughter sometimes has unwanted favor asked if she can take them over to my home and watch K pop together or eat kimbap or ddukppokki. We are very excited going back to Korea soon and I wish you may continue to stay proud who you are~~~ cheers from us.

I’m half American-Japanese and half Swiss. I moved from California to Switzerland when I was 5 and from the city life to the small isolated countryside. I was the most international person within 20 miles. So I was called names, teased and harassed by the local kids and families. Now I understand and speak 6 languages and and I’m 17 years old. I know now that I have better travel experiences because i can adapt quicker than others. I have learned to accept my differences from the people and the culture. This video was really cool, I may not be korean but I know how it is. I saw that other people go threw the same thing I did.

I taught High school in New Jersey. One student of mine was born in Korea but grew up mainly in the US. As a senior he came to me telling me he MUST get into college or his parents will send him back to Korea. He was not going to let that happen. He got a glowing letter of recommendation from me!

I had a Korean friend in Middle school and he Invited me to have Korean BBQ with his family. I remember being soooo excited about eating Korean BBQ because I had heard so much about it and I had never tried it. So he sends me the address where to meet him and it is in a park, my mom drops me off and he is there with some of his family and they are Barbecuing at a grill like hot dogs, burgers, and chicken. I asked him kind of confused, "this is Korean BBQ , it's just hotdogs and burgers this is American BBQ" he laughed, pointed at his mom barbecuing and said "Yeah, Korean's barbecuing." -_- Well that was 10 years ago and I have yet had an actual authentic Korean BBQ...

Great language combination. English is practical for obvious reasons, German is all around a great language in terms of phonetic and culture is beautiful, and Korean is regarded as one of the only pleasant sounding Asian languages along with Japanese. I recommend you learn Japanese or a Latin based language because the romantic languages of Europe are beautiful. Btw Caribbean culture is dope as hell. Music and cultural diversity of creole European mixed with West African tradition is amazing.

I would think one of the major differences would be the hierarchy. Addressing older and younger people with appropriate tone and honorifics. That's not really a thing in America. We are all taught to honor our elders. And I think that's something we all stick to. Our elders are important no matter which ethnicity you come from. But we don't usually use formal speaking when around schoolmates or coworkers who are older. We generally tend to see each other on equal terms if we have the same job titles or are only a few years older. Most of the people I work with on night shift are young. Barely out of high school or about to graduate. But I don't see a point in having them address me formally even if I'm 10 years older. However, I will use formal tone when its appropriate. I can relate to this so much. Born in Somalia, raised in United Kindom. Trying to balance two cultures is tough but super fun at times. It's like having access to two different worlds. Life is up and down no matter what though so learn from the tough times and make the most of the happiness in your life.

This video really helped me a lot. I’m not Korean but Chinese and Thai so when I was growing up, I was around my grandma and she would speak Chinese and I would understand but didn’t really think about it. My family started pretending like that’s not our culture (we’re also American) but it hurt a lot to almost have my own culture be hidden bc of family that was married in. Thank you and I hope people do come to an understanding with all cultures.

I love this video, in a moment in time where moving to the USA and being the most “American” possible instead of bringing and celebrating your culture is what is thought out as good, this video is refreshing. You don’t have to give up the culture of your country, the culture of the country you come from to participate in the USA culture and contribute to the development of the society and country, you don’t need to give it up so that the legitimacy of the value of your presence in the country is validated.

I think the main reason this video used koreans was because of convenience. Evan was the main producer, and as a Korean, he could just use his group of Korean friends which would solve several problems such as who to cast and the atmosphere when they're talking.

I live in an area where there aren’t a lot of Koreans in Michigan, so there’s little to no other Koreans in my area. I’m in high school right now, and I’m not very social, so when one of my friends told me there were one or two other Koreans in our school, I was kind of excited. However, they were different from me because I have Korean parents, while they were adopted by a white family. And not only were we influenced differently with culture, I am the only female Korean in my high school and we are in different grades. I don’t know the boys at all, so it’d be kinda weird to try to be friends with them. I really wish there was someone in my grade that was Korean and maybe have the same classes together.

와... 영상 보니까 미국 너무너무 가고 싶다 어렸을 때 미국에서 살다가 15살 때 한국으로 돌아왔는데 그 뒤로 영어 안 써서 그런지 다 까먹고 수능 끝난 지금 뒤늦게 회화 공부하는 중인데 막막해요... 어떻게 공부해야 하나요ㅠㅠ 단어 암기를 하려 해도 실제로 사전에 뜻이 애매하게 잘못 표기된 게 많아서 어찌해야할지 모르겠어요ㅜㅠ

I totally understand the thinking a different language thing. I’m bilingual in Spanish and English and there are moments were I’m thinking in English but talking in Spanish, Vice Versa. It happens in dreams too
