Hello, I have recently find your videos, and they all have enriched my knowledge about the MCU; I'm currently doing a PhD in Physiological Sciences, and I work with muscle and im very much into de mitochondria as well. Do you by any chance have the references that you've used to explain this videos?? Thank you very much :)

What was the reason of michondrial matrix to take calcium ions if they are again exported out by the Na-Ca pump??

As I understand it, the mitochondria can store calcium (like the ER) to maintain calcium homeostasis in the cell. So it functions as calcium storage.

too much calcium accumulating in the matrix reduced the mitochondrial membrane potential and/or starts an apoptotic pathway , hence the Na-Ca pump tries to maintain an optimal calcium concentration inside the matrix for physiological purposes (boost the TCA cycle enzymes).
