David Austin do indeed use multiple rose plants in a single pot to achieve the 'full' look - especially for the photoshoots. Just be warned - after a couple of years (perhaps just one) you will need to lift and divide these plants because they will not thrive and eventually die with that little space. Depending on the size rose, you need a container of at least 45cm and possibly 60cm diameter and in depth to house a single rose bush happily for multiple years. If you have the patience, a cheaper way to do it is to buy a single rose. In three years it will have achieved its full size and you will not have three potentially dying plants on your hands :)

The arrival of bare root roses has to be one of the most exciting things ever! I find them so beautiful... it’s just the anticipation that bubbles up! That’s a rose and plant addict talking!! This was an exciting and helpful video. I get most of my DA or any bare roots from Victoria, Australia if I can’t find them in Sth Australia. How blessed are you to live in Shropshire though!!!

I had a climber last year for at random (not a DA), so I’ll see how this brand works out. I never knew they put in 3 bushes. Most of my roses are my Grandmothers from the early 50’s/60s.

What is the size of the pot are you using for the 3 bare roots? How wide and how deep?
@brendaroxde647110 ай бұрын
I have planted in early November , 7 bare root DA roses into individual 52 wide 58 cm high pots. Hence I expect them to thrive for at least 10 years , maybe slow but sure. If I had to plant 3 roses in one pot, I assume they have to be replanted individually in about 2 or 3 years otherwise the roots will get too crowded. I would therefore never plant 3 developed roses together in just one pot. The first bloom might be beautiful and they by 3rd year they’ll will get stagnant. Just my opinion .

Yes repot them every three years if planting three in a pot and feed weekly during growing season.

Have 2 climbing D.A. roses on their way but hoping to put them in pots- or rather very, very large planters. Has anyone tried this? Have plenty of sun, just terrible soil (clay and rock) and not much space. Now that I see this I wonder if the planter i have is too large to have only one rose in each (though it looks like these are the smaller container varieties). Pot is 61cm/24in in length and width and a bit over 53cm/21in in height

David Austin recommends 18 inch pots. Mine are 20 gallon for my roses.
@Sarahx-jf6sdАй бұрын
I did this after watching this video, and if anyone else is in the same boat. I would not recommend doing it, there’s not enough air circulation for the roses to thrive. I have just taken them out to put into the ground after only 1 year (2 summers) Plant 1 in each 45cm container. The only way it would work for al 3 is if your container is like 90cm in diameter and where the hell would you even fit that? 😬 Patience for the full effect people! Otherwise you’ve wasted almost £100 on 3 roses that end up dying!
@ElliotNMattАй бұрын
Mine were fine and did reach the desired size. I would recommend regular feeding during the growing season. Weekly if possible plus I’d recommend hard pruning annually and changing the compost completely every third year. Yes you need a decent sized pot! I did make a separate video about pot size.

Hi, it prob would be best to switch out the compost every 4 years or so. However I don’t plan too. As d as n experiment I’m going to just continue weekly liquid feeding during growing season and see how they do. This year will be the second year for the three in a pot.

You've left the graft too high on 4 roses, it's meant to be covered
@ElliotNMatt3 жыл бұрын
Depends what zone you are in. In some climes it can be detrimental to bury the graft site as it can sit in water if lots of rain. In others it’s best to bury them completely to protect against prolonged snow periods. I’ve never lost a rose planting them this way here in U.K. in fact all of mine thrive. I also tend to leave room for some light grit to go over the top which does cover the graft and allows for good drainage.
@jenniferabel28112 жыл бұрын
@@ElliotNMatt Thanks so much for the explanation. I was wondering why you’d decided not to bury the grafts, and whether I should dig mine out and do the same! But snow is an issue here, and now I finally understand why the conflicting graft advice is out there. :)Thanks again.
