I luckily got to meet Elliott after this show, was only very brief, and he was very shy and awkward, but thankful I did. Also said hi to Ian Brown, but could easily forget about that....

They preformed so many songs that Elliott don''t usually preform live on his own which is great, Alameda and Bled White sound just amazing with Janet's drumming. God bless Quasi, they are the best people to play live with Elliott Smith.

@@blazepond5518 Both. Janet Weiss and Sam Coomes of Quasi. Those two have also been involved in loads of other work. Sam played keys on a Built To Spill record I believe, and Quasi was ,for awhile, a 3 piece with Joanna Bolme. Janet drums for loads of people/groups cause she's insanely good.

Yeah it’s pretty overwhelming from all reliable sources that even though he used drugs as a lyrical device in a lot of albums, he didn’t actually do them until around 2000

I honestly feel sorry for the four persons that disliked this rare and precious gem, it must be a type of reflection on their sad lives. That said, omfg, thanks for posting this, I feel much lighter, as if the weight of missing him while he lived has been eased a bit, bless you and bless the late great Elliott Smith R I P now and forever

IT's funny cause as awkward and uncomfortable as they look when the camera zooms in close, as bad as I feel for them that they feel so naked and observed, I'm also just as grateful that they were captured so clearly in such a nice moment. They all look so young and healthy and beautiful (especially Janet Weiss) and it's just nice that the whole thing was captured.

Hahahaha The Portland Music Scene. In 2000 or so, Stephen Malkmus moved to Portland, and that first Malkmus solo album in 2001 had Janet on drums (I think). Janet plays drums for Elliott here (I think). I saw Malkmus in 2001 in Omaha at Sokol Underground, which holds less than 200 people. LOVED IT. Stephen was dating a young woman from Omaha at the time. Ohhhh The Omaha and Portland Music Scenes from 2000-2006 were VERY SIMILAR. Those were definitely The Glory Days for Omaha music. The good thing: Mike Mogis used all his money to build a kickass studio at his huge house in Omaha, which means people will still come here to record in the coming decades, and perhaps someday there will be good new Omaha bands to record there, too. Fingers crossed.

Awful footage, footage sound quality.......but utterly spellbinding What is it about E Smith? Melancholy lyrics, sombre and slightly tense live performance but somehow charges me and makes me feel joyful? What aspect of this human condition does he access? Will. Always. Love. Elliott Smith.

"somehow charges me and makes me feel joyful? " There's a consistent level of melodic resolution and catharsis even when the lyrics are melancholy. I've never not felt at least a little bit optimistic after listening to Elliott Smith.

@@dequanrick2209 Who fucking cares? Honestly. Who fucking cares? He made a little observation. And Eliott does have an especially youthful look to him here. It's at the point where you can't even mention Elliott, drugs or suicide in the same sentence without some goof pretending to be offended. Again. Dequan... Who.. Fucking.. Cares? How can you expect there NOT to be conversation around his drug use? Are you truly offended? For Elliott. Wow such a big fan you are. This is why I don't even discuss Elliott with people online. There's always someone pretending to be his biggest fan. There's always some overly sensitive fan who refuses to accept Elliott wrote 'sad music often themed around suicide and drugs'. But hey, guess what? That's what it is, especially for someone just peering in on his music... Drugs are a big theme in his music, and his life... and while to me, 99% of the reason I love Elliott is his music and personality, it's obviously acceptable to me, for Daniel to make this comment. I'm sure he put less thought into writing it, than you did reading and thinking about it. Because again. Who. Fucking. Cares? People need to stop being so defensive, and personal about Elliott. Or be that way, but keep to yourself. No one wants to hear you lose your shit because outside opinion is clashing with your world. You can't pick and choose what parts of his life are acceptable to talk about. Let other people , who are able to, like adults, talk about him, talk about him. Elliott's appearance changed a lot in his short career, and he's looking good here. That's what I gathered from this comment. Fucking chill. I love Elliott Smith more than any artist I've ever known, but to be quite honest, I've always never encountered another fan base that irritates me like Elliott fans. It's either people who you can just talk to about his music, like specific things, like how cool the snare sounds in Speed Trials. Then there are the other half that just want to argue about how they KNOW he was murdered, and HE WASN'T A DEPRESSED,, SUICIDAL DRUG ADDICT LIKE EVERYONE MAKES HIM OUT TO BE. And I realize now I wrote a lot of words for a two word comment... But fuck man. Your comment is a microcosm of all the people I hate discussing Elliott with. If you're offended by such a general statement, well fuck that's your problem, not OP's.
