All the Elliott Smith fans need to seriously just get together & hug it out. Because damn his music is so beautiful, it makes everyone who listens feel deeper. Which most of us can't even fathom the pain this poor man felt, it doesn't matter how he passed. All that matters is that he's finally in peace, & he will always be remembered as "Elliott Smith, the man that makes hearts weep, even in death"

This might be Elliott’s best song. There’s something about it that just hits differently. It’s like knowing the end of a movie you really love or thinking about a old lover. Knowing what happens to Elliott and the title give the song a feeling of mixed emotions. Bittersweet. The video doesn’t help as it feels like something you’d see for memorial service. The song doesn’t need to have lyrics as I feel like it conveys all it needs to. A crescendo to a slow fade out. Hopefully Elliotts having fun where ever he is. See you in heaven

I'm laying in bed reading the comments, crying buckets. Elliott Smith's music got me through some of the hardest moments of my life. No words could ever possibly articulate the breadth and depth of the emotions this man has made me feel. To Elliott: we've laughed, we've cried, we've shared failures and successes. There were times when you were my closest friend, and we've never even met. You'll live on in my soul forever. I make 11 years clean next month.

My ex-girlfriend used to love this song. She was the person who introduced me to Elliott Smith and a lot of other great artists. She was my best friend and my first love, we got together as late teens and stayed together for almost 6 years. Never have I loved someone in my life as much as I loved her, and even though things didn't work out in the end and we separated in pretty bad terms, I always appreciated the good times we had together and the almost unhealthy obsession with Elliott Smith we shared. Yesterday morning she was found dead by her mother, lying on the ground in her room next to her bed. Even though we didn't have any contact at all lately, it really fucking hurts. You were the love of my life, Zoe. You were and always will be my first love and the person I wanted to spend the rest of my life with. Even though I was extremely hurt for a long time by the way you ended our relationship, I never wanted to see this happen. Deep down I always wanted you to be happy. I will never forget you, Zoe. See you in heaven.

Sometimes, when I feel stressed with life, I'll listen to this song. I'm an atheist, but I'd like to think I know what Elliott was talking about when he wrote "See You in Heaven". This song has such an uplifting melody to it but in the back of your head you know the person behind it couldn't make it himself. This song means more than the world to me. Rest in Peace, Elliott, 1969-2003.

Im an atheist too. But I remember being a little kid, about 7 or 8 and having a penpal at school we would write to. On my last letter to him I said "I'll see you in Heaven" because I really believed it to be true at that time. Life is nicer when you believe in an afterlife. Actually life is just better in general when you are 8 lol.

The guy was extremely talented. Never wrote a bad song. All of them had a different world inside, and his way of playing was almost unique. @Gin Weston I believe you misinterpreted Mercy Me's comment. Oh yes, Elliot had demons. That doesn't mean he was a demon - he was not. He was uniquely human, too human maybe. Many of us relate to that in one way or another.

Elliott in general, and this song in particular, has the power to open up so many incapsulated memories and images from my life that I had completely forgot about... very draining emotionally to return to this song. Probably the best melody work he ever pulled off, and that's saying a lot...

Olivia Baker it's actually a pretty big supported theory that this is a reworking of the song My New Freedom, so if you want to hear the lyrics, they likely exist for the most part. there is a version of the song with the vocals from My New Freedom. it's not hard to find around here. I cried when I first heard it.

I rarely comment on KZbin, but holy shit this takes my breath away, I picture people hugging, air jumping, dancing for no reason on sunlit fields of grass. The picture is so vivid, almost like a movie I get absorbed in - this song fills me with hope and pure bliss. Everytime I hear it, depressed thoughts are losing their power and I find strenght to move on. Thank you, Mr. Elliott Smith. See you in heaven
