Elliott Smith is a great example of how you don't need to be complex or over the top to make fantastic songs. He had such a good grasp on conveying emotion in its purest form. His art and legacy will stand the test of time as a result.
@RB-nl6qv6 ай бұрын

my name jeff I know. And I try to find them whenever I can. Sadly there is garbage out there too. But one man's trash is another's treasure. I've known and listened to Elliott Smith's music since the 90s and I remember when and where I was when I heard that he died but his music did not really start to resonate with me until about two years ago at the start of a beautiful and sad chapter of my life. Since then hardly a day goes by without a little bit of his music. Even read a couple of his biographies. I think future generations will look at him like we look at Beethoven, Mozart, Van Gogh, and Earnest Hemingway

@patrick48338 жыл бұрын
he did hate pitseleh that's true... i agree w u there's something to be said for simplicity though i think. shame this didn't make it
@brendancskinner8 жыл бұрын
+Patrick James Staples Agreed. Although the loop is far more complex than it sounds, its rotates in 6 bars of 4/4 and has a bunch of layers to it. I made a close replica on a loop station using reverse reverb but couldn't quite get the exact sound. Its really quite amazing that he could make such a conplex song sound and have it sound so simple to the listener.

He often had to decide between a lot of different songs to put on his albums because of how prolific of a writer he was, and he always second guessed his decisions so that could maybe be why.

Elliott Smith, sadly, committed suicide in 2000. i don't like talking about why, but the context gives a new layer to his songs. So. the long and short of it: He stabbed himself in the chest four times while his girlfriend was being a twat. It staggers me every time i think what we could have had from this genius. if not for the twat. He left behind a crazy amount of songs. try 'grand mal' album - that's the unreleased stuff.
@lemonlord01329 жыл бұрын
First of all, he died in 2003 October 21. I remember the day because it's my sisters birthday, second, there were 2 stab wounds. I was talking about posthumous albums like basement on a hill and new moon. I would love a new album. He has so many great unreleased stuff
@jonedwards95129 жыл бұрын
LemonLord01 addendum to the above. It was never proved indubitably that he did/didn't kill himself. The case was botched. All that is known is that the inquest revealed wounds caused without hesitation; this did not correlate with "conventional" suicide through stabbing (the wounds are normally created hesitantly as the subject struggles to commit themselves to their actions)... Not that it really matters any more I suppose; a talented musician is dead and the world is poorer for it. :(
@sadreactsonly9 жыл бұрын
+Daniel Demarse It was never declared suicide. the case is still open. It was either Jennifer Chiba or someone she hired to do it if you ask me. In the very few cases of suicide that involved a person stabbing themselves in the heart, almost everyone of them took their shirt off before they did it. his shirt was on and they found defensive wounds. everyone wants to think it was a suicide because that fits in to the whole 'Elliott was a sad sap' complex that most people have. Elliott Smith did not kill himself and his murderer is out their starting fundraisers for suicide awareness.. fucking pathetic
