Honestly, I’m not at all worried about Petey. He played the majority of last year with third and fourth line wingers and still averaged over a point per game. He’s looked noticeably better the last couple of games so things look like they’re headed in the right direction.

It's not his teammates, it's him. He was terrific in the first half of last season, then he got injured and played injured. He was horrible in the 2nd half of last season and in the playoffs due to playing injured. He has not been the Petey of old to start this season. I'm not sure if he's still playing injured now (unlikely). I think he just lost his confidence because of how bad he played in the 2nd half of last season and it's carrying over to this season. I think it's all mental with him at this point. He needs to get his confidence back as EP is too talented of a player to be doing what he's doing now.

Petterson is well-compensated to be a franchise player for the Canucks. As would and should be expected- with great pay, comes great responsibility. Petterson is a grown-a$$ man now. It is time for him to man up and for the sensitive feelings bit to end! While the Canuck fans can deal with some pointless nights, we do expect to see a consistent level of compete each and every game. If he can not overcome this performance fragility, then I would suggest it is time to consider a trade before his overall trade value drops.

The OEL contract buyout doubles next year so they'll only have 10 mil in cap space for Boeser, 2-3 other forwards and 2-3 D-men. They're going to have a lot of rookies in the lineup next year unless they trade someone or the cap goes up quite a bit.

Petterson always has these half season slumps. Like this isn't the first time he's been low production for 30 - 40 games. They were always around wrist injury which meant he wasn't able to shoot those amazing shots as often.

I do NOT take anything Eliotte Friedman says seriously regarding the NHL. Just like Kevin Bieksa and Kelly Hrudey, he's just another Ron Mclean Hockey Night mouthpiece. Elliotte is always going to be vanilla in his comments, because he can't make hard criticisms or else he'll be blacklisted by the players and the teams. I don't need Elliotte to make excuses and do PR work for Elias Petterson. These excuses about him "going through the process" and "he wants to do very well" is the same old BS we've been hearing for the last couple of seasons. Let's just skip all the public relations ---- The fact remains --- Petterson is one of the Top 10 Highest Paid players in the NHL in 2024, and he is NOT performing at the level fans are expecting. Will he or won't he? All us Canucks fans are waiting for him to turn into the superstar he is getting paid to be, but it's becoming highly doubtful.

In a Canadian market, there are always those what I call nationalists who will pick on anything about non-Canadian players. Look at the Sedins after all what they have accomplished. At first, it's the same old, same old, "soft" Europeans. When they blossomed, then it's they hadn't won anything. When they got Ross and Hart trophies, they didn't win the Stanley Cup which, by the way, players like Darryl Sittler and Wendel Clarke, who are great players in their own right, didn't either. It's always something. Lest we forget, these players are relatively young in age. When you point a finger at someone else, look at the other fingers pointing back at you. What have you done when you are 25? Now criticisms are healthy for improvements but they have to be constructive in order for improvement to happen. It boggles my mind how many of the criticisms are directed at the players' salary. First, remember what the frustration and angst from the Vancouver market when Pettersson said he wouldn't talk contract until last season was over? Now that he's under a long-term contract, he's a bum because he didn't produce as much as you like? Stop with the salary. It's not as if someone put a gun to the Canucks management's head to pay him that much. They could have easily said no and let him walk (which some of you are saying now they should). But they didn't. Of course, in social media, everyone is more knowledgeable than those who actually work in the organization. Yeah, if only you were the GM or the coach, the Canucks will win the Cup every year. Such a big loss for the team that you are not in charge.
