Kane seemed happy with being able to have his family and parents from Buffalo at games. The proverbial career/life balance is important to someone at his stage. He’s also pretty cerebral, and being able to learn from the likes of Yzerman prepares him for eventual mgmt. roles if that’s what he seeks.

@@Ryan-yi5ro The virtually unlimited talent on the blue line coming in the next 2-3 years tells me this will be much less an issue than it was with 1.5 functional defensemen we had this year. Not to mention an entire year plus change devoid of setback, free to condition and train to the fullest degree; who knows what kind of Patrick Kane comes back next year? He was just shy of a point per game as he stands now, he could approach 90 over a full healthier season.

Kane freed up guys Raymond. Is he a defensive liability? Yes at times he is. Does he make up for it offensively? Yes he does. Kane really helped our team. Do you have any ideas for replacing his production? There's not a lot of options. Even most of our defensive prospects aren't ready. Edvinsson proved that. I think this all depends on how Kane felt about his OT winner against the Blackhawks this past season. In my mind his only options are Chicago and Detroit. If that reception and the result he got in Chicago brought him closure, then he is going to remain with Detroit. If that goal and reception made him feel loved and super nostalgic, then he goes back to Chicago. Two other factors will tip the scale, IMO as well. If the hip resurfacing held up when he gets examined at end of the season, tilts in favor of Detroit. But the chance of the captaincy being thrown at him for Chicago would definitely tilt the scales in their favor. I’m talking out of my a** of course. And watch the Utah Yetis land him. Haha. But seriously I see no reason at all for him to go anywhere other than Chicago or Detroit. I’m a Wings fan and I really hope the Wings get him on a 4 year contract with a team option for year 4. Who wants to bet me $7.00 American on this?

There were items on both sides of the balance sheet for Kane. Great veteran Stanley Cup winning experience, I think 7 GWGs, etc., I would also say there were a few games that he played a major part in losses for the Wings when his man scored the GWG, etc.
@paulwt9783
@paulwt9783 27 күн бұрын
"there were a few games that he played a major part in losses when his man scored the GWG" Name those games, please. Bc I don't think that actually happened. The only one even close and that you're probably thinking of is the OT loss at Pittsburgh near the end, but that wasn't Kane's man, it was Gostisbehere's - Kane was busy covering his man at the time hence his half-assed attempt to cover Ghost's man too on the winning shot. And that was Lalonde's fault anyway for putting those three out there in OT together, and wo even having possession. Kane's defense was by all metrics actually among the best among Detroit's top 6 forwards. He was virtually never exploited 5v5. "His man" 5v5 is usually always the last trailing d-man. 88 is given the least defensive responsibility and he meets it. 3 on 3 OT is different, but if he is used right he is a winning weapon in OT and not a losing liability. As we saw - he was in on 4 OT winners.

@leftygtrplr6184 27 күн бұрын
@@paulwt9783 I appreciate your passion. For sure, I believe it was the Pittsburgh game and there were a few others where his lack of defense led to goals that ultimately led to a loss. I'm not going to split hairs. The professional analysts will talk about his defensive liabilities. Either way, he is a great offensive player and brings a lot of intangibles to the team.

Because of the bank that has to be given to Seider and Raymond, Stevie would have to send away some others some how. Personally I wouldn't mind Fabri and Sprong gone somehow some way. Same for Veleno. We have to remember also that Berggren has been complaining about being in GR so long. So, I think it would be easily possible to see Kane offered a 3 year contract. Just in time for the new wave of draft picks to finish in GR.

@jeremykraenzlein5975
@jeremykraenzlein5975 27 күн бұрын
Could Detroit sign him to a two-year deal with player options for up to two additional years? That way Kane would get the stability he wants, being able to exercise his options and effectively make it a four year contract, if time doesn't catch up to him by then. But if he retires at any point after the initial two years, Detroit wouldn't be on the hook for his cap hit. The downside, from Detroit's perspective, is that we are trusting him in the scenario where age does catch up to him before the optional years expire, to not simply extend the contract to take the money when he is clearly no longer playing well enough to be worth it. But Kane seems like a stand-up guy, who wouldn't want to be remembered as the jerk who took advantage of his team like that.
@doubleyahtzee
@doubleyahtzee 28 күн бұрын
I could see Kane staying, but only if they sign Raymond and Seider to bridge deals. If they sign Raymond and Seider to 8 year extensions then I think Kane is gone. I do think Yzerman will opt for the bridge deal with Raymond and Seider tho which is normally cheaper then going for the 8 year extensions, which should free up money to sign Kane. Maybe Yzerman will try to match the term with DeBrincats contract? I think 3 years for Kane is relatively safe, if his production starts dropping in year 2 then you could probably trade him and retain half the contract and only be stuck with one year of retained salary. He would probably want a M-NTC tho which could make that tricky. Lots of variables so I think we won't really hear anything until Raymond and Seider sign extensions and if they possibly holdout on extensions (which I doubt) then Kane is definitely gone

If Im thinking about long term, the Wings need to boot a veteran or two out. Some people were saying boot Joe Veleno but hes still young and developing. If were going to make room for Simon Edvinsson and Berggren, and I were to boot two more expensive veterans for them, my pool of targets is immediately obvious: Copp Sprong Fabbri Kane So the question for me then becomes "Is Kane going to provide me with more long term stability than two of those other names, and also be a great teacher for younger players?" The answer is yes. Boot Sprong and Fabbri, opening the door for Berggren and Edvinsson. That will also help cover the cap space needed to pay Raymond and Seider. Both should be locked up for 8 years piece giving 8.8M AAV to Seider and 7.9M AAV to Raymond. Give them 750k signing bonuses too. As for Kane, he got around 2.5M for this year on a "Wait and see" sort of ordeal. Well hes def proven himself but I dont know how much we can pay him before it becomes a problem. I think 3.75M AAV for 3 years could work. Maybe a solid 4M

It's unconventional, but possibly a 2 year deal with a player option of a third as long as he's above .75 points per game. If he dips below that detroit has the option to say no, bit that allows Kane the stability as long as he keeps producing.

Kane has never been a physical or defensive presence on the ice. He’s always been known for his hockey IQ and vision. His style of hockey may not be preferable, but it should be sustainable. Even through 39-40 years of age he will still be smart and see the ice well. If we could sign him for 3 years at the right price, we should. I’d love to see a Kasper, Stamkos, Kane line on the ice.
