Good player!! Rickey Henderson had 73 stolen bases at the end of June in 1982, the 130 steal season. Imagine how many he would have with today’s rules and bigger bases!!

Understand that there is no hate or jealousy here. The kid has talent and having 40 stolen bases is admirable. But it isn't exactly "great" or "outstanding". Just look up the MLB single season stolen bases list. MLB stolen base numbers have been abysmal since the mid 1990's. In fact there are only 2 players from the 2000's that are even in the Top 50 stolen bases list. Kinda tells you the current direction of the game.

Elly is a generational talent but all of these new “records” deserve an asterisk after them. These records have been made easier to break with all the rule changes and larger bases. So while I am impressed by this it just doesn’t feel as significant
