Lovely walkthrough. I absolutely love my Elmyra 2 (although my ‘bite’ knob seems a LOT more vicious than yours - I’d better check my soldering :) ). Apparently updated firmware is underway, adding per voice volume and a bit more control over timing. My only wishes for this would be some way of it remembering voice and sequencer settings on power down. That and maybe another octave or two of tuning - it’s all very low end. Truly inspirational instrument though, a definite keeper (and a really fun kit build).
@nyppy Жыл бұрын
The new firmware was just released, and it has octave switches. Remembering state and sequences will come in a future update. Here's a demo: kzbin.info/www/bejne/jGSYo2yQZZJrj6M

Great run through! It's a quirky beast for sure. Because I've built mine I keep wondering if it's behaving/sounding as it should or if I've stuffed something up. 😂 I think it's just how it is though.

I wanted to see the choke all the way off as the transit through the wavetables didn't seem like much in comparison with the usual wavetable synth, but maybe that's just me imagining the way that control works (some kind of soft clipping maybe?). Interesting machine though, and it was nice to see it with the Lyra.
@OscillatorSink Жыл бұрын
Choke turned all the way up and Bite turned all the way down (as it was through most of the video except when I showed the range of those controls in the intro, and towards the end where I push the bite control up a bit) is "off" as far as the 'Ouch' circuit goes - you can't remove the distortion completely, only reduce its effect. There is a headroom setting which can lower the gain a bit more, but the transition from no distortion to distortion becomes a little more sudden and I found that I didn't like the way it sounded.

I am looking to add one or two more semi-modulars to my setup and tried to like this for the full video but I was left with lessons learned and a bit of a headache, it is too wild for me I guess. Still a nice piece of gear for sure!
@dankeplace Жыл бұрын
For me, I think they made it a bit too small, I prefer larger knobs and UI. I like the Fischer Price approach, if you can see it, you get it, if you have to squint, you'll regret it. Having looked at the $, hmm, interesting, very interesting, I may eat my words.

The form factor was chosen deliberately so that it's Eurorack compatible, meaning it doubles as a Eurorack module. That was one of the most requested features by Elmyra 1 users.

Thanks a lot for sharing this and other videos about the Elmyra2. Beautiful sounds and possibilities. I guess this inspired me to decide to order one, which i should receive in a few days. I have questions about the sequencer: if you have assigned different sequencer patterns to different voices, how can you erase the pattern you assigned to one particular voice, without erasing the others assigned to other voices ? (or how do you erase all of them?) And is it possible to modify an existing sequence on one voice, e.g. adding a new step or erasing one existing step, after you have been sequencing an other voice ? I didn't find any clues about this in the manual. Is there a limitation here ?
@nyppy10 ай бұрын
It's described in the manual on page 8: Hold any number of PG buttons and hold REC for more than 1 second, the REC LED will blink once to confirm, and this will delete all sequences for the corresponding voices. There is no way to modify a sequence once recorded, as it would be too confusing given the limited user interface.

@@nyppy Thanks a lot for your answer, this helps. I will read the manual a bit more carefully😊

I like the sound of the Lyra8, its heaviness and superb build ti all accounts but this little beauty I has. Half the size, highly patchable, a sequencer, is half the price and will not go off on one!! Like the Lyra 8...so.....is more controllable. Would I be correct?

Have you had a play with CV in to get it to act like a drum machine or are the envelopes too long?
@OscillatorSink Жыл бұрын
The envelopes on the voicedy are too slow on the attack in particular, BUT there are some Mod modes which close down the sound fully and the filter also goes to nothing so... Let's not rule that out...

great video! is the filter digital or analogue?
@nyppy Жыл бұрын
There is an analog (kind of) low-pass filter with the CHOKE control, but for the main resonant filter, there are 4 filter types and all are digital simulations of actual analog circuits: 4-pole transistor ladder LPF, 2-pole state-variable filter in LPF, BPF and HPF configuration.

Question for you. Do you think there is anyway you could do a tutorial for the Arturia Microfreak on how to recreate the sounds of a Synare 3?
@OscillatorSink Жыл бұрын
That's a very specific request. Probably not a video, but: Noise oscillator type Cycling envelope in envelope mode to pitch in the mod matrix Turn sustain down on main envelope, keep attack at minimum too, and do filter to envelope. Keyboard set to velocity rather than aftertouch, then velocity to pitch and filter envelope amount. That will get you most of the way there I think?

Audio output straight into soundcard? or you using any midi ti cv converter into computer?
@OscillatorSink Жыл бұрын
It's direct from Elmyra into my audio interface (until 32 minutes-ish, where I turn on a reverb pedal). I'm not doing any external sequencing (which is I think what you're asking?), all sequencing and modulation is happening inside Elmyra2.
