Thank you for the info on the bobbin case - I wish I'd seen this last week when I was cleaning it! I use a magnetic dish for those tiny screws, and when I remove them, I keep a magnet on a stick nearby if I think they might go flying off!

As a modification, I would suggest drilling and tapping a small hole about 1 inch down from the center line of the hand wheel opening, then adding a screw, that when backed off, it will be a normal running machine, but when screwed in, it will effectively push the motor in and away from the hand wheel, thus parking the friction wheel away from the hand wheel.

hi.i have elna special sweing machine. it got a problem during sweing it stuck suddenly. its neddle area is opprating but bobbin case is not rotating when i opprate machine but when i rotate it with hand its move.

The screw would have to be about 1/4 inch to be broad enough to be a blunt force, rather then a sharp force to not harm the motor casing, as well as a fine machine thread. It should be short enough to have the head bottom out, before bottoming out the motor's suspension, also to not stress the motor housing. A black cylindrical/ knurled hex head Allen screw would be best suited.

If you are missing parts you need to replace them. If your linkage may be frozen. Try using,"Triflow," to loosen up the cam follower.

Hi Joe, I've been using an Elna TSP (great machines), but ran into an odd problem - after finishing a decorative stitch on a shirt I turned back to then do the other sleeve but the decorative stitches have completely stopped working. All I get is a reverse straight stitch regardless of settings. I've cleaned and oiled the machine and checked the tension is correct, but nothing is fixing it! Any ideas?

Hi Joe, I have an Elna supermatic, vintage 1963. The needle position is stuck to the left. I can manually move it, only to have it pop back to the left when I start sewing. Is this something I can fix myself?

The needle position has can me changed with a knob. Often these become stuck. You may want to loosen it up with< "Triflow." (It is a penetrating oil with a Teflon like lubricant that stays behind after the penetrating oil evaporates.) This may not be easy to do because of the risk of damaging the plastic parts.

I have an Elna Supermatic 722010 machine, just purchased, and the first time I sewed on it, after sewing for approximately 1 hour, it began to run on after I tried to stop and this became worse as I continued until I eventually had to disconnect the plug to stop the motor. Is this a motor issue or the knee presser??

It is most likely a capacitor problem. Many sewing machines of that vintage had a capacitor to reduce noise on the old radios. When these break down they can short out and make the machine run full time.

I know this is an old video, but I have an Elna SU68 Air Electronic that will not zigzag or do decorative stitches. I have tried opening the top, using a hair dryer and gently moving the needle bar to the left and right hoping I could free it ( it has been idle for many years and I just bought it yesterday ) but no success. Any ideas what else I can do before taking it to a technician? Thanks

You are on the right track. Heat and penetrating oil such as Triflow usually work.

The Elna 6200 LED readout is stuck on a symbol I cannot find in the manual. It looks like two bracket symbols back-to-back: ][. And I am unable to use the selection keys to select a stitch. Help!

Sorry I don't know what that symbol is you described. Have you checked that the bobbin winder is in the correct position for sewing. I have seen this cause problems. You may need to take it to your dealer.

I replaced the pulley on my mothers 1956 Elna and now the motor froze up on me. Does anyone know how to fix this? All I did was replace the pulley and did nothing else, has this happened to anyone and how do I fix it?

Have you checked the motor runs when not in the machine? This could help you decide if it is the motor or how you assembled the machine. When you say the motor is froze does that mean you can not turn the pulley by hand or it just does not run?

My Spanish is not very good. Loops of thread on the bottom of your fabric can be upper tension too loose, take up lever not threaded, or something catching the thread in the hook area.

To anyone needing tutorial help, don't bother...this video uses only 3-4 second screen shots to visually demonstrate the intricate and complex process of bobbin case removal. There is no way this video would suffice to the learning process; rather, it's a summary to one who is already accomplished in bobbin case removal.
