This new UV unwrapper looks awesome! It's nice that it doesn't choke with moderately high number of polys. I need to check it out. Sometimes I wonder where all our license money goes to when I see all the cool plug-ins that people create in their spare time with only fraction of Autodesk's multi-billion dollar budget.
@joelaguilarfuentes87587 ай бұрын
I do agree with the general sentiment about Autodesk but, make no mistake, this plugin has been in development for aroung 4 or 5 years according to Rapid Tools developer.
@bgtubber7 ай бұрын
@@joelaguilarfuentes8758 Sure. 4-5 years is still an amazing feat for an independent developer though. Knowing Autodesk, they will likely buy it out and integrate it as a native tool like they did with Slate Material Editor (which was a separate plug-in), and then stop updating it. I hope they never sell it to Autodesk.

@@joelaguilarfuentes8758Yupp 5 years of learning, development, many many iterations and tremmendous amount of time has been placed into this project. It was a nightmare sometimes and I had to stop the development for month to get some fresh air. I know why ADSK don't want to spend a single minute with unwrapping anymore. Because it's a mathematical and technological nightmare. You have to dev a viewport for it, also you have to write a completely new data structure for it, there are insane amount of things where it can fail and it's crazy complicated to debug it. There are a lot of cases where it can silently fail somewhere and then you have shoot around the problem and the processed data which may take days or even weeks. So yes. It was and it is a very very complex project.

Exciting to see those plugins! and great community projects. Do y'all know some good courses to learn animation in 3ds Max? [I found a good rigging series by Miloš Černý free on youtube, but once you have a rig what are the best techniques to animate it? I'm looking for top-tier free or paid courses :) ]
@F10F11hm6 ай бұрын
Norberto Aguilera is an excellent teacher and has lots of videos dedicated to animating with biped. There's also a channel watchmeanimate which features some good concepts. It's generally a good idea to watch some Maya-related content, much of the workflow basics can be transfered directly to Max. Apart from Animation Layers unfortunately, those totally suck in Max and need to be rewritten from scratch.

They're working on it. Max 2025 made some significant changes to the way plugins are handled, hence the delay. It takes some time to adjust.

GenZs when they hear 3ds max: Eeewww All successful studios including Rockstar, Ubisoft, Fromsoftware etc: Wanna know what 3D software we use to make the best game you played in your lifetime forever? yeah 3DS Max. Succ it!
@punmije7 ай бұрын
I'm not Gen Z. I've spent a lot of time in 3ds Max since my uni years. However, the software is obsolete, sorry to say. It takes 2 minutes to boot up and crashes every 2 seconds. Big successful studios used it because that was only good option at the time, but times are changing.
@as466437 ай бұрын
I've been using 3dsmax for 25 years professionally in feature film vfx, including star wars marvel, DC films. It's far from perfect but you're exaggerating here. If you're getting crashes that often then there might be something wrong with your particular installation or computer. I just spent 2 months simulating tyflow systems with 10s of millions of particles and I think I had 2 crashes.

@@punmije crashes every 2 seconds he says. Thats only possible if your scene has billions of polys in it or your pc dont meet the requirements. Either way, it looks like your exaggerating things. 3ds max is as smooth as other 3D softwares out there as long as you know how to use it, i have 3ds max and blender store in my ssd, it launches the same time both software. Though the other is faster to launch but its unnoticeable anyway. tbh 3ds max is much more simple and straight forward imo.
