The reason there's AC converters in Tesla's is that it uses AC motors. NOTHING to do with charging. If charging source is AC it gets immediately bridge-rectified to DC. In the case of Optimus, if the motors are AC (or brushless DC, which is a misleading naming convention, as "brushless DC" is AC; just trapezoidal wave instead of sinusoidal); so I don't know because I don't know what kinds of motors are used in Optimus. Plain old DC motors are unlikely; and stepper motors are like switched DC driving them, but they are not the most efficient motors; can have heat distribution issues; so I'd be inclined to assume they use miniature versions of Tesla car motors (which are a strange blend between AC induction and synchronous AC motors), and to drive them they'd be inverting DC up to AC.

Each step isn't one foot (that would only bring the hind foot up to level with the front foot) it's two feet - because the heel of the back foot, moves forward past the heel of the front foot and lands somewhere near the toe of the front foot - that's two feet. So it's gotta be twice as fast as Scott's suggests.

I would guess Optimus uses brushless DC motors (BLDC), similar to what is used in RC-cars/planes now days. The controllers for those motors can be made pretty small with today´s power electronics. The controller would in that case be integrated on to the motor-assembly probably including a small microcontroller so that you only have to route a ethernet cable and a DC-bus to each motor. They could also use the same ethernet-loop tech as in the Cybertruck.

I wonder if they could use a flexible heel with some springiness like the flexible toe. When walking the human heel hits the ground well before the toes. Hey friends, the Teslas of course have converters to convert DC to 3phase AC for the drive motors! I expect the motors are normal "3-phase brushless", just like in your battery drill, a toy drone, oh - and in your Tesla car. There's an assumption that Teslabot is working at 48V and you'd assume that all motors would therefore be 48V. But motors will be driven at less than 100% most of the time using PWM at say 50kHz. As soon as you go there, then you can actually drive any voltage motor up to 48V. It wouldn't bother me having mixed motor voltages in my own designs. PWM will efficiently use the power available even for say a 6V motor,

@user-tg9xk9sy9k in its simplest form, a converter is the generic name for anything or any device that can change one thing into another, such as converting audio to digital signals, such as the old TV RF transmission to Digital TV signals, sunlight into electricity and more. It is true that an inverter and a rectifier, or even a charger, do convert, in this case, different states of electricity to other forms, but DKIA and Scott are using the term "inverter" incorrectly as used here in their explanations of charging or powering the Bot in this video. 🙃

If you have a huge budget and don't care about expenses you would build everything custom or smaller. But if you don't have a perfect and I mean perfect plan's you build it with anything laying around or is cheap. Then when you're happy with everything you can start building smaller but you still need to know when to stop new construction . But you need to know what type of bells and whistles it needs to work in the first place.

The use of mocap sensors might explain why they are using a naked version.

Why, why would they release an image like this right after claiming that competitors are reviewing their videos on a frame-by-frame basis?? Does this protect them in some way? Eg., to show that they are not the one's copying anyone, or to prove that other's are copying Tesla?

Yes, but deliberately lower resolution. Can't see fine details.

The yellow tag means 50% off. Makes sense. This robot is used, naked, and moseying. It would be hilarious if the speed of walking was spec'e as amble, mosey, gambol, skip, toodle along, and go like hell.
