What's important is that we adopt crypto. We must adopt crypto so we can make our own markets, control our own money, provide our own liquidity by staking our own funds. Fiat money is locked away from us by banks under the guise of credit ratings and fees. The beauty of crypto is no matter if you are Elon Musk or the poorest person on the planet, everybody can be a market participant. there is no collateral backing it. What's physically backed these days? That isn't important. It's technological appeal and potential is more than enough to give faith to its holders. It is nothing like junk bonds (like my name haha). Bonds are essentially loans from private entities rather than banks, to (mostly) corporations. "Junk" bonds are bonds graded as high risk, but high yield and are issued as a last ditch attempt to save a failing company, like "give us tons of cash to save us and we MIGHT be able to pay you back tons". Bitcoin is much different. One day it will be more like a currency, for now, as it is not used in lots of places yet, it is more like an asset than a currency. In fact, it is an asset, according to Goldman Sachs. Think of it like gold, but way better because it is digital and can be sent around and used like money. And like gold, there is a finite supply, to prevent inflation. It will be roughly 100 years before all 21 million BTC (a limit imposed by its unkown mystery creator, "Satoshi") are created or "mined". It takes time and computing power to create bitcoins, which require lots of "cryptography" computations to be done (hence the energy usage). It takes a lot of math to make the system secure, efficient and transparent all at the same time. The more that are mined, the harder they become to mine, so even though only a few million of 21 million are left to be mined, like I said, it will still be 100 years or so to mine those. This was all by design to draw out, and control BTCs growth, unlike the wildly out of control dollar which is printed on command, allowing us humans to shoot ourselves in the foot. BTC are "mined/created" through computation at a limited rate.. So it is like gold but digital, is invested in like an asset class, it can take advantage of digital luxuries and essentially be used as a currency. Why is transferring money so slow, inconvenient and expensive? Bitcoin solves all this. It can be sent easily, like email, to anyone, anywhere nearly free. It is decentralized too, meaning it is not run by anyone. it is a network that simply exists and anyone can use it. No government can control anything about it, and THAT is the true beauty of bitcoin. Its OUR money system, not the banks, not the governments. Also, it has grown in the past 10 years far more than any asset or company. Like it has been far and away the best investment than anything. And it is still young. It is in its infancy, but in 10 years, it will start to realize its true potential. it is based on blockchain technology which is like a digital ledger. Hope this clears up all the basics. Ethereum is the second biggest coin, also worth learning about. Cheers!

I was wondering the whole time, whether the panelists know Hedera Hashgraph. Because if they did, they would already know that there is a working DLT solution outthere superior to blockchains, which addresses all of their concerns about base layer throughput, security and low energy usage - all at the same time. Plus it has a 100% certain finality in 5s and a technical and legal no-fork guarantee. Probably Hedera should use a dog meme to be caught by Elon's attention. :-)

@@janellc900 formaly Blockchains with a traditional PoW or PoS consensus algorithm do not have a finality at all, meaning that the chance for the truth in a block not being altered is asymptotically approaching 100% with each and every new block added, but it formally never reaches 100%. In BTC normally you wait 6 so called confirmation blocks added to the chain to trust that the chances are low enough that a Tx in an earlier block would be changed again - e.g. through a hashrate attack. This takes about one hour and you still don't have certainty, only a high probability. This is bad if you buy something expensive with BTC and want to leave the shop 10s later. From the shop owners perspective (who wants to be 100% sure that having received the money would not be revoked later on) it would be fine with Hedera but a potential great risk with BTC - or infact any other blockchain ledger without finality. With Hashgraph as a consensus algorithm you have a math proof that the algorithm is ABFT and it reaches finality - meaning once consensus has been reached (and it takes about 5s to do so) it can never ever change again.

Here's a problem with crypto that people don't understand. Money has 2 main functions: 1. Credit the individuals for their contribution to the society, so that they are motivated to produce goods, and services. 2. Direct the people's efforts and attentions toward a common goal. This is done commonly through tax policy, BUT in the case of emergency, it is done by PRINTING MONEY. Printing money, and diverting it to areas in need such as covid's relieve, we are directing the society's effort to helping those people by producing goods and services for them. Without the ability to print money, the society itself (through government) will lose the whole mechanism for orchestrating effort. A society that forgoes the government's control of money is doomed. You can't rely on everyone being a hero in times of need. What we can do instead is control the government's control of money. Vote out bad politicians and put in good ones. Then let them print money when they need to. A government is like the nervous system of the society, and money is like the fuel (or blood). You cut off fuel control from the nervous system and let cells draw the fuel as it like? Not a good idea.

we dont need a government though. Well, soon we won't. Bitcoin is the first step in a long journey of dismantling it. I'm not an anarchist... And we needed government up until the near future. A necessary evil. But the private sector can do anything the government can, but better. And technologies the key to why we will now be able to take the reigns. If you understand the implications of blockchain tech, those points are moot. BTC cant replace money right now, but it will in a very long time. Or another crypto. Its obviously better, in every way. No one debates that. Crypto enthusiasts aren't missing anything my friend, the world is catching up to us in understanding. We know something the world still hasn't caught onto. We will forgo the government control of money, we wont be doomed. We will adapt slowly as BTC matures, which will take decades. We always adapt, we always innovate, we always follow the money, we always make things faster, and more convenient, in the past 30 years, we always digitize systems, the last one left to digitize is the financial system. The internet would have done this if it foresaw E-commerce, so we just have to do it now. If private entities controlled things like research for things like COVID, financial technologies, sudden emergency funds wouldn't be needed, I speculate. Thee world will be so much faster, and less corrupt if we had our own financial system. In short, it won't be much longer before we actually dont need the government. Power is becoming too divided for any one entity to have too much control, governments are consistently becoming more benevolent and more understanding of peoples rights, and that one day, will flip beyond 50% and slowly humanity will collectively dismantle government, decade by decade, until people stop even calling it that. But who knows lol

The stock market is a buy and sell place for hopes and assumptions. The buying and selling of stocks at various values officialize creation of actual money out of hopes. Ultimately, money is a conceptualization of value in order to exchange. Bitcoin being used for speculative purposes defies the original purpose of “money” which it originally was meant to be created for, if I am not mistaken. Learning from this and because it is acceptable to generate value out of speculative hopes, then there are no real boundaries anymore to anyone coming up with any sales pitch for XYZ rogue new investment product (let’s give it a currency name such as coin to make it seem valid) and try and sell it to the world based on hopes to profit from it, artificially creating a momentum of people’s wishing it to increase because it is well advertised and on the assumption that there will always be “enough” credulous people to buy it to keep the trend going. That’s - to me - a perfect bubble. This seems very different from counting actual money in the form of encrypted digital numbers in electronic systems of banks, cards, wire transfers etc (hence the word crypto) that people seem to merge with Bitcoin’s story. Bitcoin is a stock market of its own that has the value people are willing to pay for.
