Are blockchains the internet itself (a part of it currently)? Will the internet in the future be based on a series of blockchains (and you can invest in a particular blockchain by buying its cryptocurrency)? I understand cryptocurrencies are digital currencies that are not controlled by any government, and that alone is amazing. But I don't get what non-replicable thing they can do besides that. The explanation Mr. Brooks gave here was something I hadn't heard before, and I'm not sure if I understood his words correctly (I understood blockchain tech is the evolution of the internet itself, i.e. all the internet content, its interactions, and services will be provided through blockchain tech in the future, and you can own a part of that by buying cryptocurrencies). Correct me if I'm wrong please, any comment could be helpful
@chriscurry24963 жыл бұрын
@@2020A-v6k I don’t believe you are incorrect and you are justified in being very skeptical of Mr. Brooks’ explanation. I strongly suspect he’s an industry insider who Is advocating for his business with this made-up analogy of “three internet tiers.” He says that the second tier is owned by companies like Facebook and Amazon (as if nobody can operator their own server anymore). The third tier is where blockchain acts as a platform for developing apps like one would on a smartphone platform. “People” would own this platform by investing in something like Ethereum. This is silly in my opinion. While Ethereum smart contracts do allow “developers” to create simple apps which can use Ether to run, there is little evidence these could even begin to rival the scale of existing internet apps and services. Furthermore, there’s no evidence that blockchain technologies result in this imaginary equitability he suggests. In fact the reality is that crypto just accelerates inequality of ownership.
I'm glad congress has stepped up their game. The past few times they've interviewed people about tech (not even as complicated as blockchain) has been embarrassing. This is the first time I wasnt completely embarrassed by our own congress.

I realized that the secret to making a million is saving for a better investment. I always tell myself you don't need that new Maserati or that vacation just yet. That mindset helped me make more money investing. For example last year I invested 30k in crypto and made about $246k, but guess what? I put it all back and traded again and now I am rounding up close to a million.

The crypto expert's talk sounds very convincing but it isn't actually a logical consequence of what he's talking about. He talks about how Google owns the internet but crypto will allow everyone to own the internet, but there is a missing step in between. He's selling a dream for which there is no actual, practical implementation. It basically reads, "Step 1: Crypto allows everyone to own part of the network. Step 2: ??? Step 3: Profit!!" Google doesn't own the internet, they own primarily three things, the platform that streams video and its associated CDN (mix of hardware, software, and actual cables), the search engine (software and compute hardware), and ad network (software and financial agreements/marketing). How do you replace Google using crypto? Answer: you... don't. You just don't. People use Google because everyone uses Google. It's tautological and that won't be toppled just by offering a competitor (Bing). A crypto search engine won't just replace it. So Google still owns search, and trading crypto tokens won't change that. Is the argument that crypto tokens are themselves monetized and thus there is no need for advertising revenue from Google? If so, then when does the actual money come into play? Crypto doesn't create money, it requires people to put real money into the system to create transient perceived value. And how does crypto address all of the hardware and cable questions? ISPs own the lines to your house. You can't cut them out of the equation with crypto. Seriously, try asking any crypto enthusiast about the steps in between crypto being used and a distributed individually capitalized utopia for all. I promise you they'll either gush about the tech or the outcome they hope for, or at worst say that it's not their job to solve the simple implementation problem. Because it is intractable.

Crypto and blockchains is just a technology. It't not a catch all for everything the internet does. It is why there is so many apps being developed, it's a way to solve individual small problems. Bitcoinc etc. has no intrinsic value. But it is a store of value, which has a finite amount. Meaning it isn't inflationary like all other currencies, meaning that it's possible to build a stable economy around it, for 100s of years, if that is so desired. What is meant by a few companies owning web 2.0, is that if you want to do specific things on the internet, you have to go to specific companies to do so. Web 3.0 is build on a network, that is driven by its "shareholders", meaning if there is a need for an app (Could be a new search engine), it can be voted into existence and then developed. The reason it won't be centralised, owned by one company, is because the web 3.0 apps will be dApps (decentralised apps). When build on blockchains, the individual code being run and evaluated in the apps, will be verified throughout the network, not by a single entity. The missing link you are asking for is also being developed, the interconnectivity between the cryptos. People are working on it, but none has the perfect solution. Things like Solana is very scalable, and Matic is basically what Ethereum 2.0 will become. Bitcoin is very scalable, but not very energy efficient (Being proof of work). The next step is combining the scalable solutions with the dApps that people want, which things like Polkadot is working on. There is a lot of people working on all of this, but even so, there is no final project that deals with everything. It is very new technology, and everyone is doing their own thing from scratch, the next target is getting everyone to work together on one "network", which will be web 3.0.
@anna-flora9993 жыл бұрын
@@jadanejda9674 I have a couple of questions: 1: what would stop a company like Google from developing their own dapps? Or if its done by popular vote, what stops them from getting such a high percentage of the nodes that they can vote stuff into existence themselves? 2: who provides the hardware and energy for them? Is the system betting on enough people spending money on it out of the goodness of their hearts? 3: how do dapps differ from already existing community driven open source projects? 4: how would something like bitcoin combat deflation? It's very likely that some people will hoard bitcoins for the sake of having a high number of them in the same way people hoard real money. How do you prevent the system from drying up, or from the value of bitcoins rising more and more, requiring transactions being done in smaller and smaller increments? 5: you say Web 3.0 will run on "a" network. Which one? As far as I understand, one advantage of blockchains is that only members with access to the chain can access the data, but they can access all of it. Or would it consist of multiple blockchains?
