The problem is: If AI puts a predominant number of humans out of work, who will have the money to buy the products produced by AI. Without people spending money, the economy fails. The gov will have to heavily tax corporations and then give the money to the unemployed to keep the economy rolling. People are "wanting machines." Computer's aren't. Computers need energy to run, but if it's turned off, machines don't care. They don't need to run. They are perfectly content to sit in the corner and gather dust. People, on the other hand, can't go ten minutes without needing something, and that cost money, which they will happily spend, if they've got it.

Actually, the coming quantum chips - which have been developed - and will be going online shortly - will do stupendously more - for less energy. The new Blackwell chips are AMAZING - but they are energy hogs - and produce a lot of heat.
