I don’t think any of Elon’s companies want to get into phone hardware. His companies are into doing things no one else is doing . No one was really serious about mass market EVs until Tesla proved success in it. No one did private space rockets until SpaceX proved it was viable. No one really took mass market general purpose humanoid robots seriously until Tesla did. Neuralink and The Boring company are developing their own future markets than don’t yet exist. Starlink’s purpose is to provide access to the internet globally where standard internet providers cannot. The phone hardware market is already well covered and too competitive. Then once Neuralink is advanced enough, phone hardware will no longer be necessary. Just like self driving vehicles will make human driving, steering wheels, pedals, and vehicle mirrors obsolete.

At the end of the quarter we essentially had over 100 bombs left over and all crews were qualified. I went to the committing officer, puffing out my chest telling him I was able to save these bombs and still get all the crews certified with all their qualifications. He cussed me up and down, and said if I don’t use the bombs, he would relieve me of that position, and explain to me if you. Don’t drop those bombs. Our allocation will be dropped for the next quarter. For the next three weeks all I did was have crews go out and drop bombs until they’re all used up before the quarter ended.

The question is... How many robots do we need to send to Mars to build everything from scratch... Then we can just move in
@phen-themoogle76513 сағат бұрын
That’s an excellent question! By the time we send robots to Mars we will already have millions on Earth, and robots are already mostly autonomously building other robots (maybe fully by then). Would we send a couple hundred and have them build thousands while they are in space? Are they capable of mining parts on Mars to build new robots from the resources naturally found on the planet? How many robots can fit inside the spaceship? 🚀 it really gives you a lot to think about. Nice thought provoking question!
@phen-themoogle76513 сағат бұрын
My guess is that we will send as much as we can fit for how many transport ships are capable of making the first trip. It’ll be ideal if we can send 100,000 elite humanoids (that can move at 2x human speed by then) , if 100 can build a house in a day they could all make a small city in about a year. It won’t take longer than a few years then before it’s comfortable to live there. Probably by late 2030s… I think technology improvements could speed things up though too. Wouldn’t be surprised if even 8-10 years from now the first group of people are living there.

The funny thing about Optimus and AI is that by the time they are highly implemented (say 2035), the money you make from TSLA stock due to implementation will not be as necessary to a good life. I mean, if you have $20,000 today and invest it in TSLA, you are already better off than most people, so when your TSLA stock is 500X in 10 years, you'll still be in good shape (a cool $10Million), but everyone else will now be able to get the things/experiences for super-cheap you could not afford when you invested in the stock. Who knows, money may even evolve to something else at that point; alternatively, there may be new experiences only $5 Million can buy LOL....................makes you go "hmmmmm......" Or not. Should be a wild ride, one way or another. At least the next decade will not be boring (except for the tunnels....).

Given what Elon said, I would question why we would put humans on Mars or Venus before providing a full Earth-like environment. Much better to put an army of robots and machinery ahead of us and tame the environment first. Incidentally, I have always been a Venus first man because of gravity and also the fact that we know Venus once had a Holocene Earth-like environment.

@Jasonfallen717 сағат бұрын
We can set foot on Mars. We can go safely underground on Mars. We can land on Mars. Can’t do any of that on Venus. Arrobraking into a cloud city berth on Venus will have to wait until Mars and Moon cities are already thriving. I don’t think that’s a crazy prediction. But I get ya. Also, a 24 hr day might be more important than we know today.
@FlipBoxStudio5 сағат бұрын
Several man made things have survived on Mars for years and at least one rover remains operational after several years on the surface. In contrast, several probes were sent to Venus and they only barely survived a few hours on the surface to take some pictures and measurements before being destroyed by the planet’s far more extreme environment. Don’t know what led you to believe Venus is the better option than Mars, but you should probably reconsider. Maybe after humanity has mastered gravity and force fields then Venus will be possible.

I just want to say that two days ago I took a FSD trip that required 3 serious interventions in 10 miles. 1) Turned into oncoming traffic in a construction zone. 2) Ignored a hand held stop sign in a second construction zone and would have faced oncoming traffic coming from a spur road in the construction zone. 3) Failed to enter a left turn lane until after the car behind me entered it and was in my blind spot while failing to realize that the car in front of me had stopped at the red light. FSD is not ready. FSD still has serious 3-5 year old problems that are not fixed including: Phantom breaking-right now particularly common at green lights at major intersections with 45mph speed limits. Zig zag turns are also terrible where the car instead of making a consistent turn will make hard left and right steering mistakes through the turn. FSD is not working and is not even very close. People saying otherwise are getting invitations to Tesla annual meetings and other perks leading me to believe we are being intentionally deceived on progress.

he has publicly stated before that the first starship will be full of robots and not humans. That is what he meant here by "unmanned crew" unmanned meaning its not human, but there is still a crew. For the record, we actually have a lot of understanding about the hazards associated with mars as we've had many mars rovers land and collect data for us. It's a relatively well understood environment. The issue is not as much about knowing what problems there are, as it is knowing how well we can handle the known problems. Establishing a clean air supply and fresh water supply will be the most significant challenges. However, if those can be done then there is a good chance for human development of mars.

The richest person on Earth is optimistic. OK, I'll take the win. Vicariously, of course. The real change I'm hoping to see with AI and essentially free labor is simple: That the most disadvantaged person with a problem gets attention to solving it like most advantaged person does, and doesn't have to wait 10 years (or never) to see it addressed. As a species, we may or may not be able to transcend our evolutionary heritage of "eat or be eaten", "kill or be killed", etc. Time will tell. Right now, given the power the top 1% wields and a distinct lack of egalitarianism among them (almost by definition), I'd say humans as a species are probably in trouble. But I'll still take the vicarious "win" of Elon's optimism, even if logic says I shouldn't. In any case, I'm still invested mostly in Tesla because of all the things I could invest in, I see Tesla doing the most for me, and for society. I could be wrong, but so could anyone else.
