There is just so much can be improved on the Raptor at it CH4 and L/Ox operation. So there may NEVER be a 5.0 and 6.0. Here on out there will be little improvements so 4.2, 4.3 & even 4.4. The only thing is building a larger engine about the size of the BE-4.

Earth-orbit refueling, using dedicated Starship bodies, has been on SpaceX's calendar for a very long time. The orbital "fuel depot's" have already been designed. YOU didn't tell anybody anything, unless you are a leading SpaceX design engineer. Given the enormous payload capacity of Starship, the only way to get to the moon, Mars, or any other place in the solar system, is to have Starship Refueling in Earth orbit. It isn't that it would make anything "more efficient" - it's that without orbital refueling, it would be impossible to haul the incredible amount of tonnage that Starship is capable of pushing out of Earth's gravity well, and still have enough fuel left to get anywhere; so orbital refueling is mandatory for success. These tests will start soon.

After the commissioning of Starship, the priority of astronautics should not be flights to Mars or the Moon, but the development of transport for space (for low-cost transportation of goods in the direction of the Moon) and non-chemical engines for them, as well as the deployment of all the necessary infrastructure in the orbits of the Earth and the Moon. Hasty attempts to fly Starships to the Moon will only lead to overexpenditure of resources and microscopic achievements in the economic plane.

Do we have any real data on the Raptor 4 engine? Do we have anything on the Raptor 4 at all? If you look at the size of the F1 engine in comparison to the Raptor 3 engine. What is the size ratio of the F1 engine in comparison to the size ratio of the Rapture 3. I betting ton for ton output the Rapture 3 beats it hands down. That is a fair comparison. Do you know when they plan to implement the Raptor 3? Do you think we will see it on V2? Exciting Times. Great Episode.

Chemical engines only make sense for lifting cargo from Earth to LEO. The Moon is a nearby (relatively) gravitational pit, Mars is a distant (very) gravitational pit, and both of these pits are neither suitable for life nor for the economic presence of human colonies on them. Relatively speaking, people would prefer to travel for years on ocean liners to long-term accommodation in the “resorts” of Greenland and Antarctica at exorbitant prices...

tf is not short for Thrust Force. "Thrust Force" is not a thing... tf = Tons of Thrust This is not the first time this silly usage has been criticized on your channel. If you are talking rockets, then you are talking physics and engineering. This is not nit-picking. Physics is the study of matter and energy in space-time to extraordinary degrees of precision and accuracy. One does not go to the moon or mars making trivial errors.

So, Elon's tribe has lapped Blue Origin with Raptor 3, literally doubling potential while halving complications. And from Elon's numbers, they are gonna lap the BE-4 again, with Raptor 4. Will be interesting to compare production rates. And on the Merlin engine, those are soon entirely obsolete, saw an image a couple days ago, Merlin's are Spaghetti Monster era engines. I suspect Raptor 4 will be similar to raptor 3, maybe slightly bigger-longer combustion chamber, but most of the difference will be from jacking up the pumps... And rumors of increased use of engine heat have me suspecting higher efficiencies. Also removal of heat shields means a potential slight increase from exhaust radiant heat striking the engines. basically the cryro is the cold side temp of the heat engine, and the more heat you use, the better efficiency. On the ship sizing, one option with higher thrust engines, is bottling the booster shape to get more volume. i.e. keep the current diameter at the base, then expand outward above the engines, and then stay straight or neck back down for the seperation stage and starship. This would allow keeping the same launch mount, and keeping overall height down, and instead using the height increase for extending starship length. otherwise soon need taller towers. Also would counteract the needed structual enhancement of the booster, they were adding doublers to lower structure after last test. internal framing is the wrong place to add weight, the skin is 80% of hull strength, better to thicken the skin than cobble on krapp. And a larger diameter hull's volume to weight would counteract the increased weight of thicker skin. plus you get more internal structure due to maintaining spacing centers distances and increased circumference. Though it might be time to include some actual internal trusses using the sweet tube truss tech. it doesnt get any better than that, and a minimum of three trusses would strengthen the booster plenty. or same strength could be gained on the starship, with external wing keels creating double deltas with planned wing area expansion. And one unwinged keel piping and wiring trunk on ships horizontal bottom. would be less complicated than myriad slapped on doublers, and get desired function if it starts having hull strenth issues too. Rule of thumb on metal fabrication is always strive to get three purposes out of any given piece of metal if you can, in your design. As for the tube truss Tipi circle seperation stage, forget it, its good, wont have any problems, its the defacto state of the art going forward. Just try to remember to use similar structure where ever appropriate, from now on. If it needs an open structure, and its for Space, think tubes and triangles... So, looking forward to seeing Raptor 4, should look beefy! and built like a tank! Has anybody heard from Jeff lately? is he OK? 🤭

Raptor4.0? Is this supposed to solve his overweight rocket? Why no one ask the question on how is starship is supposed to fly to mars, land and takeoff again. The fly home and have fuel to land? I’m sorry but that math doesn’t work for starship fatty. If it can’t get higher that lowest earth orbit with booster and all the fuel on starship. This doesn’t require a mathematician. SpaceX has only two choices. Come up with a new fuel with power of nitroglycerin or shed 90% of the current weight. EOM!

No. You clearly haven't done ANY research on how SpaceX plans to achieve a Mars colony. You are using your own limited imagination and knowledge of the current state of Space rocketry and development stage, and haven't bothered to look at any of their plans. It's available. Instead of scoffing, and pretending to know more than the thousands of people working on this program, why don't you avail yourself of a little actual knowledge? The fuel problem has been worked out, as have many other things - but this is all still in a very early stage of development. Left to NASA, none of this would be happening at all, and we would still be building single-use rockets. Do you know anything about SpaceX's plans to refuel in Earth orbit, just as our jet aircraft refuel while in flight? Look it up - it will be being tested very soon.

Raptor 3 or 4 is NOT the most powerful rocket engine ever! Smh
@art.is.life.eternal
@art.is.life.eternal 27 күн бұрын
There isn't any "Smh" about it. The F-1, and the Saturn V rockets were the most powerful. - but not that much, when you consider the fact that Starship's engines, even in its present-day 'early' iterations, are close enough (in terms of practicality) to give either engine a run for its money. And speaking of MONEY, the fact that all of SpaceX's rockets and craft are reusable, is a far more important measurement of their actual usability and longevity. All of "the most powerful rockets ever built" were insanely expensive to design, test, and build - and all for one, single use. Billions upon billions of dollars wasted, as the boosters and every other piece of hardware fell back to Earth and died in a watery grave, except for a tiny capsule - leading to the spending of further years, manpower-hours, and build cost (another billions upon billions wasted). There comes a point, after the race is over, when NO government - not even ours, can afford to build a working, practical manned space program costing quadrillions upon quadrillions of dollars, in a never-ending stream. Starship's engines will only get more powerful - and even more importantly, CHEAPER, because of their complete reusability - making a real, practical manned space program not only possible, but inevitable. So my question would be, "what is the most powerful and REUSABLE engine ever built?" The answer is obvious, and bragging rights to the most wasteful and powerful engine ever built, are irrelevant, asked in this context. We will never build another Saturn V, because the cost would prevent any space program from reaching beyond the moon, and at a hideous and unacceptable price. Taken as a whole - as a FLEET - of completely reusable, take-off-and-land rockets, and fuel barges in space to feed them (until antigravity tech is unwrapped), SpaceX's rockets are the ONLY answer to the question, "How can we mount an affordable manned space program?" Even the current V3 SpaceX engines are plenty powerful - and reusable. This has never been a factor until now - but is, in fact, even more important than bragging rights to "the most powerful rocket ever built." We are finally, solidly, in an ACTUAL Space Age, and we would never have been while the emphasis was only on power, over reusability. Powerful AND reusable - THAT is the combination that will take us where we want to go, in an affordable and practical manner. It doesn't happen otherwise - no matter HOW powerful the rocket engines are. There would be no airline industry today if we had focused only on powerful, fast jet engines, and had to rebuild every passenger jet after we parachuted all the passengers to the ground, and then had to rebuild every jet from scratch for the next trip.
@jbizzle1966
@jbizzle1966 27 күн бұрын

He is an exeptional human, someone that comes along once in a century. I have been closely following his progress since 2008 and made good money investing in Tesla back when it went public. Sometimes its good, to look at things without personal feelings, just based on the fundamental logic alone and then judge it like that. Thats why i felt confident investing in Tesla back then. I also knew spaceX would get this big. My prediction: Tesla will grow atleast another X5 and SpaceX might become the most valuable company of our lifetimes.

Emergency!!! THE ONLY SOTUTION! Baffles will not work to prevent the fuel slushing problem, because the tanks of the starship system are too large. That is the only reason why the starship engines have been exploding every time. The solution: The tanks of Starship and Superheavy need 2 disk valves, expanding the diameter of each tank. One of the disks, the one on top, rotates above the contiguous disk to close the overlaping holes on the surface of the disks; to reduce the Size of the tank by dividing it, before any rotation or acceleration of the rocket. This will prevent slushings and protect the plumbing, if located 10% above the bottom section of each tank. Large telescopic pistons can be attached below the bottom of disk valves to control the fuel pressure as the piston expands into the fuel tank. I have built a model that works perfectly. The second disk valve can be located 10% below the front of the tank, to also protect the front of the tanks from the slushing forces. The gridfins are too flat and too small to be effective enough and will not be able to control the booster. Why is Elon not using four pins instead of three to secure each heat shield tyle? Four anchor points provide far more stability to secure a tyle, not three. Also, each type should be constructed with the bottom half of the brick consisting of an interwoven latice of steal mixed into the silicon, to provide a foundation of strength and durability to each tyle. What is more important than securing the heat shield by providing the maximum stability and strength to each tyle? The interwoven steal mesh lattice mixed into the bottom half of the bricks, and the four anchor points would eliminate the problems of tyles falling off the ship every time there is an engine ignition event. Please get this message to Elon. Thank you. Also, Spacex needs 3 actuators to move the payload bay doors correctly, not two. They have only two now, one at each end of the payload bay. They need one at the center position. Three will guarantee that there will always be enough support to open and close the doors, even if one of the three fails. I know the spacex engineers can see these problems. It is like ignoring the elephant in the room. The solutions should be a no-brainer. Musk needs to hire people who can be trusted and who will not continue accepting bribes from Jeff Bozo to sabotage and cause unnecessary delays to the Spacex Statship program.

It's amazing how Musk fanboy can distort reality! Raptor2 was created because raptor1 underperformed, and even the raptor2 did the same thing, so actually 100 tons to LEO become 50 at best according with Musk itself from two weeks ago, and even raptor3 wouldn't be good enough, so raptor4 ned to come to save the day, probably whole thing would blow up and launching 20th 5000 tons rockets only for sending four people to the moon is really insane, but not in a good way.

@@c.j2527 maybe you would believe Musk, when he said two weeks ago that they basically failed and need better engines, or maybe you prefer to live in your personal virtual reality in which starship performed exactly as was designed and delivered 100 tons to LEO? (which didn't happened ).
