I used to be in AWACS. Not taking and threat mitigation is an absolute failure on the AWACS, no the fighter. Whenever we were in an air space where the potential to be intercepted could occur, we would get a threat briefing and then it would be on the Air Battle Weapons Crew to keep track of those potential threats. This would be an absolute catastrophe and it would forever be used as a case study on what "not to do." The AWACS basically was a deer in the headlights thought that's on the computer.

@Vipbossguy3 ай бұрын
@@gackerman99not that it matters much but you can’t guide a SARH missile with a TWS lock
@corvanphoenix3 ай бұрын
@gackerman99 AFAIK, TWS means the radar isn't putting any more radiation on target than necessary to gain a targeting solution. To get a high enough quality return for a missile shot, traditionally radars would need to put more energy on the target. So the targeted aircraft has a chance to detect the increase in energy & know they could be shot at from then. With less energy comes a higher chance of losing too much information to maintain track. If the radar is big & powerful enough, like an F-15C, it might be happy in TWS nearly all the time. If you're in a smaller radar F-18 or -16, you might lose your track in TWS. Losing lock heavily reduces the weapon's kill percentage the further it is from the target.
