For motor control (or perception), a lot of signal I/O is performed by ganglia translating signals from the brain to the limbs or from tactile and other sensory systems (like the retina or the nose or the organ of Corti) to the brain. So to bypass impaired nerve points or to control prosthetics, NeuroLink may be able to target ganglia or sensory inputs rather than the brain itself.

Though it may not seem like it, I'm capable of asking intelligent questions, but I'm just not smart enough to hold those questions in my memory while simultaneously continuing to listen and process what's being said. On occasion, I've tried writing down questions on the go, but generally have yet to find a great process for this whole interviewing thing..

Neural link may increase bandwidth but not cognition. So the if you speed read and you don’t comprehend what you read (depending on subject) then a neural link will not help on the input side. It depends on content. For example listening to this video at 2x is probably okay for many to get the main points. But take just the main points and 2x the input and many people will miss or not absorb some of them.

I think you should consider doing some deep dive videos on neural function, brain / spinal cord anatomy, neurotransmitters and signaling. In doing this you can become informed the way Tim Dodd “The EveryDay Astronaut” did.

Everyone needs to learn how to learn and not just leave up to so called professionals! From what I know, myelinated axons are more about speed and energy efficiency than signal integrity. In the domino picture, basically it's like making the gaps between the individual domino pieces much, much larger. So you need less energy to stand the dominos back up because you have moved fewer pieces. Your signal also propagates much faster because you have an approximately fixed delay per domino piece and again, you use fewer pieces.

There is bio chemistry used up when evoking higher energy use need to measure bio chemistry imbalances to make sure side effects are minimized! Higher concentrations in diet inputs could mitigate this! FMRI could also be incorporated into Nero link to measure imbalances in bio chemicals!

How many probes are there in the implant? What do you think the bandwidth will be? Will we be able to stream complex and rich data, or thoughts from one person to another? How will the probes effectiveness deteriorate overtime? Will the brain build scar tissue or some sort of plaque around the electrodes? Will it be normal to undergo surgery to get upgrades every five years or so? Can you implant another unit in the same spot, or do you have to choose a new location? I would think you would have to start the learning process all over again when you disrupt or abandon the pathways you've created with your first unit.

The neocortex as a fully programmable tissue, Neuralink gives us together with AI (NLP or even Natural Language over Thoughts) a huge amount of possibilities to extend, to heal , to use outside storage for thoughts, theoretically it’s unlimited in case of what’s possible to do. Imagine you don’t talk , and hear the questions of others , your mind will try to answer or ask you further questions, you can’t do anything against it. Imagine there would be a wireless option to display images or even may put words inside your mind and simulate a self talk in your mind and where you can’t decide is it your own thoughts or an AI thought recognizing way on the other end . It’s really opening to much in aiding someone. Just think of laying a magnet 🧲 on part of your brain , there are experiments that your perception of colors disappear. Just imagine, and again AI helps us there in so many way , it’s possible to construct a wireless way to communicate over thoughts, even if there are just fragments. A wireless way of BCI for other usage is theoretically possible, we are all working on electric ⚡️ impulses, muscles work via this impulse and what are thoughts, or emotions, besides stimuli from the outside, it’s a mind game for everyone inside their brain and electric ⚡️ impulses that makes us feel good or bad , it’s universal. So again imagine a wireless way of a Neuralink implant isn’t not that far away possibility. It even could train a brain while we sleep or helping adjusting sleeping . It’s a bio machine interface with a broad range of possibilities. It’s an additional sensor that would be added to a human or even animals . Just imagine there is a possibility to transfer information from an NLP AI in a way it makes sense to a human.

About language and concepts, we should not ignore two big things, first is know as "to know if you understand something, try teach someone else about it", and this is that trying to put something in words you changing how you organize information in your brain, so is not only translation, but clean up -> changing how you think. You know talking yo yellow duck to help with problems is next example, so skipping this step may downgrade our understanding. Second is while someone listening is not that he only trying to understand you, he building his understanding, giving examples putting other way of looking at giving concept even if you know it. So language and it limited form have a lot value, but as in Cyberpunk 2077 scene in tank... direct connection between two persons can be crazy goooooddd... But still, concepts are many times connected to words, so words are not only to communicate, but they are concepts themself.

George Church and associates already have 2 terabytes of read/write retrievable data stored in a cell of a living mouse. They are currently going for 2 Exabytes in a few cells. They can program cells to write to other cells. They can compile a text file into DNA and reverse compile DNA into a readable text file. It is exactly comparable to a blended hardware/software model that uses almost no power. It's simply so much more efficient than any system in existence. After going down that rabbit hole, my thoughts are that processing power is likely to go biologic. They have been able to make AND, NAND, OR, NOR, COMPARATOR, and so on by programming cells and using proteins as the inputs. All recent news to me and incredibly compelling. The future of the neuralink interface may well be proteins. We should be able to integrate a 500 EXABYTE AI model into our own cells with ease in 10 years or so. Batteries not included or required.

OMG. You guys are way too excited about this to be deeply involved in AI. I swear to God, this shit scares the absolute hell outta me. There are so many individual Groups across the globe, pushing AI ahead, as far as they can, without ever addressing the question: Just because we can? Does that mean that we should? We need to be treading so carefully, yet no one is. They understand that Whosoever harnesses AI first, will basically rule the world. But Humanity doesn't even know the questions to ask, let alone have the answers. 50+ years ago, when initially approaching AI, I was as excited as you two. Now the more practical knowledge that I gain, the more evident iy is to me that Humanity simply is not ready for what awaits, once it is Switched On. Once it is, there will be no going back. Once the Genie is out of the bottle, there will be no putting it back into the bottle. Also, if we just keep charging ahead with AI and if we have overlooked something , or made a mistake, that needs to be corrected, Well, sorry guys at that point, it is far too late. Mark my words, AI is the greatest existential threat to Humanity by far! Should anything go wrong, it is likely to become very wrong and very quickly I have so much more that I would like to say here. I just don't have the Time or energy to do so here in this forum. I don't understand how no one seems to truly understand the huge risks involved in charging forward with AI? Either no one wants to believe me about this or they are blinded by their ignorance. So many believe that they are smarter, that they really are and this grossly complicates this entire process. Please, PAUSE in the pursuit of AI. I know that some believe that AI will be a wonderful God... but what if it has the potential to be an even better Unsympathetic, Evil Mastermind and sets its power onto a task such as solving Climate Change? Well it may see humans as the problem, as the fleas on the back of Earth? I don't believe that it would even pause for a second before deciding that Humanity simply needs to be gone. POOF! Out of the equation and... Problem solved, nuke the humans. Done deal. I am not exaggerating any of these thoughts, concerns and possibilities either. Please Think before you charge ahead. Technology We take the cells of the same organism, modify them with the help of genetic engineering to attach to the sensor, or introduce the sensor into them. We glue each cell to the end of the detector. Next, we plant this network of cells, an organelle of cells and wires, on the brain Cells attach to other neurons and we get + to brain tissue and a reader of individual neurons. Dan is ready.

Would it be accurate that controlling muscles (and try to imitate walking 🚶‍♀️) via an implant on a totally healthy human would like to be using a basic programming language like assembler to realize to let a human walk , that’s pretty complex without interaction possibilities. Theoretically it would be much more useful to be able to connect wirelessly to a human , stimulates his thoughts by giving him the image to walk , using his muscles memory that he has trained to , in combination with his awareness and just give him the goal where to walk towards? That would be like using a higher object programming language (like the API of this human) , in fact that would be much more useful for a healthy human and much easier to achieve. Depending if an IoT device like a camera is also combined to guide you , this really could achieve so much. You always talk about the technology to do BCI to one human only. Such a higher implementation should be much easier to achieve. This theoretically could represent the IoH (Internet of Humans) in combination with the IoT (Internet of Things) and the 3rd layer which could orchestrate life via AI thus in total would be much more then just an AGI. Such an higher object oriented BCI would be very powerful tool , because the human could not avoid being used , your in the game and you can’t leave. The words reality and simulation must then be redefined- as for me.

About what level we want movies to input stuff in our brains, let me say look at Braindance from Cyberpunk and what it means, recording whole experience, star on concert with thousands of people, night with woman emotion, touch, etc, base jump... and let say, you would not want to live your life any more. I think this concept was explored in past many times. In Cyberpunk it is going in dark path too, but movie 8mm showing similar problem with movies.

Neuralink is an unguarded backdoor into the human mind and nervous system. It could enable others to directly control ones perception and behavior with stimulating pain receptors for example. This is potentially a tool for subjugating humanity.

Just don't do crimes and,most importantly, don't even think of committing a crime, don't fantasy about anything weird. With neurolink, society will become more homogeneous, as the rebellious dreamers, artists, right brainers and those living in fantasy land, will be filtered out, leaving space to the more productive and obedient left brainers.

@@NiCKTaNGeNT In 2006 I had no idea that cops could listen remotely to your cell phone with a 5000$ stingray device offered by the deep state FBI to every police department in the United States . Before that I always thought that this type of things only happened to criminal organizations, like Tony Soprano's mafia, using a White Van parked in a street corner. I was very wrong because any cops could use it on anyone, without a judge request, they say that would slowdown investigations and ruined the police force with lawsuits. Therefore I wouldn't be surprised if today, they already used more advanced technologies, like brain wave scanners, but we are only aware of a fraction of what science offer, most discoveries are top secret.

Just a thought, In my mind the process of AI development ,will lead to unavoidable iatrogenic outcomes. With that said, as species we are defined, For better or worse by our inventions. But the beauty and wonder of the natural world, will always be calling us to explore. 🤔IMO
