I read Ashley’s biography on Elon like 5 years ago and Today, Jan 6 2021 I found out that Ashley Vance is a guy 😂 I am shocked. Had such a different person in mind 😂 a blonde girl to be exact.

I wasn't sure watching this was going to be worth my time, after watching the Google Authors vid (kzbin.info/www/bejne/e3andYmYo76ihpo). The interviewer is surprisingly good at asking questions other interviewers haven't, thereby keeping it fresh. I gave this a thumbs up. It was worth watching.

chapter 10 Everything about Model S is in past tense including Elon's vision for Model S. If I did not know better I would think that next page was going say Model S died along with Elon's vision for the car.

It's weird to me how someone stays mercurial for many years and never matures. Such a childish high strung ego that it could never suffer the admission of past error. Never acknowledge that he wronged Eberhard and that the cost overruns were his own fault. Never stop to think that he can't escape the truth of his image by threatening to fire the truth. The part about his father seemed significant. What kind of father would be anything but very proud unless there are some serious issues. What would make me say about my father that you can't trust anything he says. Maybe Elon is more high strung than I thought.

"he wronged Eberhard." That's just a faulty statement. Eberhard was an incompetent manager of his own company. Regardless of Musk's bombastic style, he's clearly been far more effective than Martin and less of a dick than Thiel. I' say he's proven himself to be occupying a goldilocks middle ground.

Its the high strung ego that makes you work intensely hard. Probably you have to be insane to face off vs Ford. Eberhard? Decent guy, easy to get along with. But when you have 2000 about to lose their jobs and no money, do you want the laid back guy, or the insane guy who has a track record of making it work?

Maxwell, that's because you are a thoughtless fanboy. I have better judgment.

Louis, I hear what you are saying but that's a too easy and unnecessary justification. Eberhard had far from perfect judgment but it would appear that a very significant part of the cost build up was due to Elon's demands, most notably the 2 speed gearbox when Eberhard wanted single speed from the start. Change to the chassis, finger touch door handles. Something Eberhard objected to and Elon then blamed Eberhard after the fact. Being driven does not justify that. One could argue he would be stronger having learned from his mistake and also have saved the undisclosed sum he ended up paying to Eberhard as compensation for wrongdoing as well as buy his silence. Elon was petty in other ways, he withheld normal salary and delayed the nr 2 car that Eberhard was contractually promised. Those are childish acts. Similar to what we see from Trump. Elon also sued Fisker and lost. Hopefully he has grown since but I think the simple truth is that Elon made significant mistakes as a person.

Dan, you make some good arguments here. I did think twice after reading them. But there is no way to compare these personal issues in any effective way. And they are not really important. Thanks to Elon, the world gets cheap space flight and cheap electric cars. To argue against someone who has done that is a great moral offense. Your children and great-grandchildren reap the rewards of Elon's work. You cannot discredit him by saying "If only the other guy had a chance to prove himself". Eberhard lost, Elon shoved him out, and now we all get a huge gift from that. So I say, fuck Eberhard. Who gives a shit. We have already won so much ground, why fight this petty battle from 2008?

The book was really shitty. It's like he blackmailed Elon to approve it.

Agreed. I honestly don't see why he wouldn't let Elon put footnotes there..
