The latest infrastructure bill includes $7.5 billion for electric vehicle charging stations which directly benefits Tesla and other EV makers. Billions of federal dollars were given to individuals who purchased electric vehicles in order to prop up the fledgling industry, which in turned propped up Tesla. He's received billions of dollars in state subsidies to build factories. On top of that, without federal contracts there would be no Space-X. It's a public-private partnership that Musk benefits greatly from. He even received an unspecified amount of money from the COVID relief fund. I don't have any problem with that but it's disingenuous for Musk to call for an end to subsidies. Without subsidies the pharmaceutical industry, for instance, wouldn't exist. Most of the early research and development is done at public universities and funded by the government. Without subsidies, tax incentives, and government contracts Tesla and Space X would have failed. His call to end subsidies that helped him succeed is akin to Clarence Thomas helping to end affirmative action, without which he would never have had the opportunity to attend Yale Law School and would not be sitting on the Supreme Court today. The hypocrisy is staggering.

Portuguese here. Yep, the fire was all over the news for several reasons. The site did not had the proper permission to store cars the way it was storing them and it did not had the proper safety installations (fire extinguishers and so on) for such activity. The initial cause for the fire was indeed sourced from an electric car but I have yet to see factual news that the origin was indeed a Tesla. Some tabloids such as CM (Correio da Manhã) who call themselves journalists (similar to FoxNews) have advanced that their sources told them that it was indeed a Tesla where the fire started, but I would take this lightly because these tabloids are very speculative and are most of the time just plain wrong.

You skipped a very important detail to this tax avoidance tactic. They take deductions on some of the interest on the loans. That's why there are so many trust fund kids working at non profits. Their wealthy parents literally buy them jobs after paying for their degrees with their tax avoidance tactics.

Stock options should be taxed half at sign-up and half at the time of sale. That should already put a significant dent in wealth ballooning from the wealthy being able to sit on piles of stocks they might never cash in as now they'd have to pony up enough cash to pay half-taxes up-front on stock options and the second-half taxes on exercised stocks they'll have to sell to pay back any loans they had to make to contract options plus extras to recursively cover taxes on those. Elon wouldn't have a paper wealth of 200G$ if he had to sell 25G$ worth of stock to cover taxes. Between the tax liabilities and tanking the stock by flooding the market to cover tax obligations, he'd likely be down to 50G$ or less.
