Real Estate Agents and Corps Banks are in the business of making money they are never going to want prices to come down. Tax breaks are not always good. Comes back to supply demand and banks lending practices. Lower popualtion growth and build more by fixing zoning laws corruption and red tape. Lack of trains and transport network also prohibits more people living cheaper rural and work in city. Of course this also spreads inflation to outer areas in balance. Other Nationalist or Socialist approach is to use Governement housing builds and National Bank lending to provide competition against the 'free' market. If the goverment can build a house for cheaper then provides a baseline load if you want call that. like nuclear stable against fluctuated solar wind. This policy kept Commonwealth countries fairly stable for 50 years until deregulation privatisation in 70s 80s. UK Canada Australia European Socialist conglomerate Since Neoliberal economics is based around 'wealth creation through inflation' and finance deregulation produced splurge of money property became an investment tool not a home like 50 years ago and particulary 70s 80s banking reforms. Savings became shunned and lending is the norm to disconnect power of wages make subservient to capital. Your retirement income is now predicated on selling your house and not on Superannuation Pension etc Other countries do their best to attack limit tax pensioners in effort to sell house to increase supply. eg UK Australia Canada Nobody wants house prices to come down except average wage earners. There's a truck driver shortage going on. Fewer imports due to tariffs simply means that freight will finally get to where it's going on time-and the supply will not be adversely effected anyway. Because businesses currently can't produce much due to massive amounts of inventory that's now just sitting around in the way waiting for a trucker. This also ties up lots of capital. Tariffs will make businesses in America finally rid of the bottleneck they're currently facing trying to get their products even shipped. A certain amount of tariffs on Chinese slave and sweatshop goods actually won't hurt us at all.
