My boyfriend in 1980 had a Chevy Chevelle SS and we went to church camp in that car in 1980. He jammed this song and Boston, More than a Feeling as we traveled over Transmountain Road in El Paso headed to New Mexico for church camp. I will never forget it. Fast forward to 2012, we reconnected on Facebook and married. He died in 2019 after a double lung transplant gave him 4 extra years of life. He served 22 years in the US Navy. I loved this man from the age of 14 and ELO will aways be about me and Jeffrey Allen Hoagland.

I am very sorry for your loss, but it sounds like the years you had together were happy, and that warms my heart. I myself just reconnected with the boyfriend I had in 1980/81 on Facebook 3 months ago, and we are getting engaged soon! Although he's having heart surgery in 4 days, but it's minor and should turn out OK, but it still worries me a lot. These past 3 months have been the happiest of my life, and I don't want it to end just yet!

Some facts about Jeff Lynne (ELO)...First, he is a very humble man, simply because this Music Genius is not interested in fame, the limelight, and money, he just loves to create great music. Jeff Lynne is one of the most versatile musicians ever, this is why he is considered by his peers to be among the greatest. He didn't stick to one style of music because, after decades, it gets boring. Jeff has done progressive Rock, Symphonic Rock - Pop, New wave, and Disco. Everything he does turns to gold. He even flirted with Country music. From 1972 to 1986 (During 14 years) Jeff Lynne's Electric Light Orchestra has had more top 40 hits than any other group in the world... 51 years later they still play in sold-out Arenas, festivals and Stadiums. During Jeff Lynne's ELO 2019 Tour, many reviews agreed in saying they are the best live Classic Rock Band in the world still touring and Jeff Lynne is a Music Genius( From Forbes Magazine and the Washington Post). ELO is in the Rock Hall of Fame. Lynne is on the Hollywood Walk Of Fame and Birmingham Walk OF Fame. Jeff Lynne’s ELO won the Best Classic Rock Band plus Lynne won the best Songwriter award ( ASCAP ) in 2019 for his fantastic contribution over the years. In October of 2020, Jeff Lynne has been made an officer of The Order Of The British Empire for his extraordinary contribution to music. He previously has received three Ivor Novello Awards, which celebrate songwriters and composers, including the award for outstanding services to British music. He created the best Super Group of all time with his best friend George Harrison, The Traveling Wilburys. The Legends in the Music Industry call Jeff Lynne the best overall Musician ever and a Producer Extraordinaire. Jeff Lynne has written and produced many hit songs for music legends like George Harrison, Roy Orbison, Tom Petty, Joe Walsh, Brian Wilson, Paul McCartney, Ringo Starr, Bryan Adams, Aerosmith, Del Shannon, the Everly Brothers, The Beatles, and so many others...In June 2023 Jeff Lynne was inducted in The Songwriters Hall Of Fame ❤👍💯

Me and my mom would listen to ELO on the way to the beach when I was a kid in the 90s and 00s. Unfortunately we lost her exactly 10 years ago today. Came here to get a little dose of nostalgia. Love you mom... You truly were one of the best Edit - I want to say thank you to all of the kind comments and the likes! A little back story on my mom... She loved music and nature more than most. She was known by everyone as a bright light of positivity with a huge smile that would cover her whole face. Unfortunately in the early to mid 00s, she was diagnosed with breast cancer. She beat it without hesitation and with a smile on her face. 5 years later it came back. She beat it it, but she didn't have much fight left in her. She was still working and having fun as much as she could but had bad "chemo brain" and would often pass out after being light headed. In 2013, she received the worst possible news. The cancer has spread through her body. She ended up passing about 45 days later in a room filled to the brim with her friends and family and a smile on her face. Love you mom. Miss you like you wouldn't believe. I still tear up everytime I talk about you and I still cry when I tell your backstory.

Fun facts: *A common mondegreen in the song is the perception that, following the title line, Lynne shouts "Bruce!". In the liner notes of the ELO compilation Flashback and elsewhere, Lynne has explained that he is singing a made-up word, "Grooss," which some have suggested sounds like the German expression "Gruß." After the song's release, so many people had misinterpreted the word as "Bruce" that Lynne actually began to sing the word as "Bruce" for fun at live shows. *"Don't Bring Me Down" is the band's second-highest-charting hit in the UK where it peaked at number 3] and their biggest hit in the United States, peaking at number 4 on the Billboard Hot 100. It also charted well in Canada (number 1) and Australia (number 6). This was the first song by ELO not to include a string section. *The drum track is in fact a tape loop, coming from "On the Run" looped and slowed down. *The song ends with the sound of a door slamming. According to producer Jeff Lynne, this was a metal fire door at Musicland Studios where the song was recorded. *The song was dedicated to the NASA Skylab space station, which re-entered the Earth's atmosphere and burned up over the Indian Ocean and Western Australia on 11 July 1979. *On 4 November 2007, Lynne was awarded a BMI (Broadcast Music, Inc) Million-Air certificate for "Don't Bring Me Down" for the song having reached two million airplays. #DontBringMeDown

@314rft: The fact that Jeff was in the process of abandoning the strings on Discovery is partly why I've never liked this album, though the song is pretty good. The other reason is that barring Don't Bring Me Down, the album was incredibly lame pop.

@@zetetick395 Modern "musicians" I think is what was referred to . If they arent getting radio play they cant be that good. I have yet to hear anything on the radio today that doesnt use all electrical components dont even have to know how to sing on key. Its artificial..

There's tons of good 21st century music. Heck.. if you like disco, times are good with Franz Ferdinand, Kasabian, and Arcade Fire all rocking the disco beat with their latest albums.

Amanda Galang Hmmm....well, I can't speak for the rest of us "old fogeys", Amanda, but I do still look around at some of the new stuff......I just don't care for much of it. Arcade Fire......meh.....no thanks. It's not like there are absolutely no songs that I like, but, as a general statement, I MUCH MUCH prefer the music that was produced say in the early to mid 90's than what is produced today. Simple as that. If you like a lot of the stuff that's coming out now, that's fine.......I just do not. And, it's not really that sad........REALLY!!.......I'm very happy listening to the music that I choose to listen to........REALLY!!! ;)
@TheThingFromTheArena9 жыл бұрын
*+Amanda Galang* Then again I guess it also depends on the type of music. I would never listen to modern soft rock, I don't even know what that would be. I only like 70's early 80's soft rock like Ambrosia, Al Stewart, Gerry Rafferty... But when it comes to Metal, I grew up on Black Sabbath, Deep Purple, Iron Maiden, that gets old after a while. So I embrace all kinds of modern Metal, Meshuggah, Gojira, Hacride, Mastodon... At 50 I'm stuck in my ways a lot but in other ways I'm still happily banging my head. \m/

I was born in 70. I’m a person who truly loves ALL genres of music from Jazz, Big Band, R&B, Rock, disco, rap, trap, Latino, and classical. I’ve never felt like this band got the accolades they deserved. Maybe I’m naive, and unaware, but this music is legendary and too many young people don’t know they exist. It just makes me sad. Why aren’t they as popular as Prince (yes, the goat) or MJ? Or Journey etc? Let me know your options. ♥️
