Wow man a fender Rhodes playing the bassline and an Hammond organ to play Keith Emerson’s masterpiece, along with the vision artwork of Tarkus. You truly understand ELP. Thank you for posting this

I was praying you would not resolve that suspension at 1:16 YAY ! ! ! ! ! ! ! Bravo, maestro ! ! ! Even Keith often did, in his own transcription, and in later performances, and most covers seem to follow suit. To me it just seems like yielding to trite expectations! Leaving it unresolved works SO well on the original album version, beautifully in harmony with the edginess of the chord voicings generally.
@FabioCuccuMusic10 ай бұрын
I agree so much with that, the piece is built on perfect 4ths intervals, so the sus chord sounds much more coherent unresolved.

That was some beautiful work. I play myself and I know the hours upon hours that it takes to play to that level. I admire your dedication and I know Keith would also. It is amazing the volume of work that he did. I heard the opening run on Trilogy and decided that I was going to do that. Not the most intelligent way to learn to play the piano but it worked for me.It has brought me a lot of Joy trying to emulate Keith.

Does it make you feel like Bach when you play this? It should. Really enjoyed this. It gave me a better understanding of the sound of the perfect fourths, also, seeing the fingering, which evidently is a cornerstone of the composition. Would be nice to see the changes in time signature, for me anyway.

That was brilliant. I’ve listened to the original hundreds of times and you’ve got everything... sound, execution to perfection. Amazingly good. A Fender Rhodes Piano Bass? I always thought Keith did this on his C-3. That M-100 sounds amazing. Full marks.
@fredhervieu3 жыл бұрын
Thank you very much ! Yes you are right, Keith did everything on the C3, and never used a Rhodes Bass. I don't have a B3 / C3, and the problem with the M102 is that it lacks an octave in the bass to properly ensure the bass lines, so I got the idea for the RhodesBass. (I have 2 Rhodes Bass at home because I play in a tribute band THE DOORS ;-) Thank you again for your comment.
@stevebeach90303 жыл бұрын
@@fredhervieu May I ask about the process? How long did it take you to do this? What recording software did you use? I can hear parts of the original ELP recording in the track, obviously Greg's voice, some grand piano, etc. Are you playing Keith's organ part note for note on top of what Keith was playing, or were you able to lower the level of Keith's track somehow and superimpose your own track. Thank you so much. Enquiring minds want to know. I've owned Hammond B-3s and C-3s for years, and have always wanted an M-100. Again, amazing work in learning the piece and in your technical prowess.
@fredhervieu3 жыл бұрын
@@stevebeach9030 To make this video I first worked on the piece on the piano for two to three weeks, then I transposed it on the organ because the playing is not the same. I used LOGIC Pro X and all the parts are recorded at the same time, on 3 tracks: 1 stereo tracks for the Hammond, a Mono for the Fender Rhodes bass and a mono for Minimoog. I played on the original track, but over-mixed my instruments so that it came out better. So yes, for it to work, I had to stick to the millimeter on Keith's playing, and that too takes a bit of practice. Thank you again, and you are lucky to have a B3, I dream of it ;-)
@stevebeach90303 жыл бұрын
@@fredhervieu Thank you for the reply Fred. I thoroughly enjoyed your efforts. BTW I was able to shake Keith's hand one time side stage, 1971. My idol for decades. Cheers to you.

Sensational cover! Great quality, but why in B&W most of it?
@fredhervieu3 жыл бұрын
Thank you Alex ! I think I put B&W to make it less tiring to watch. It may be a mistake, it's true that I am not an image specialist, but during the video editing I found it effective to soften the whole and allow the viewer to focus on the top view, which for me is the main view. Thank you again.

@Gottenhimfella Жыл бұрын
Not true. The keyboards must have been filtered out from the backing. The "Stones of Years" solo passage in particular is distinguishable from Keith's original studio version from the album. There are a couple of places where Keith didn't quite carry out his intent cleanly, but here we hear it as intended (not totally surprisingly, as he'd only just composed it, whereas anyone covering it can take as long as they like to get their fingers totally attuned to the tricky passages) and one place where Fred's otherwise impeccable playing does not quite measure up to the original. Also the Hammond tone is slightly different from Keith's, particularly in the first part of the same solo.
