A beautiful illustration of the difference between comics and movies and how they approach storytelling differently. Comics are not storyboards with words, and this demonstrates that perfectly.
@ElsaCharretierChannel3 жыл бұрын
Exactly! Although I do also enjoy cinematographic approaches to comics.

Ah! That was like poetry! So so cool how the overall panel layout too looks like a razor blade, when you took out the middle panel border. This deconstruction of a page was immensely informative and helpful. Thank you!
@ElsaCharretierChannel3 жыл бұрын
The shape of the panel was entirely instinctive, I didn’t even realize that until you told me!

God every part of this was so clever. Not only do you have the best Tarantino film to work with but you have some fantastic visual storytelling and some incredibly creative implementation of word balloons and a great idea on how to incorporate sound into a silent medium. Bravo, I'll definitely be showing this to some friends since adaptations come up a lot.

Super vidéo 👏 Je suis surpris que le layout de la page arrive avant le contenue des cases, c’est assez génial de voir le processus créatif.
@ElsaCharretierChannel3 жыл бұрын
Ce n’est pas toujours le cas, ça dépend vraiment de la page. Souvent j’ai quand même une notion de ce qui va aller dans les cases avant de faire le layout. Ensuite j’adapte pour que tout fonctionne ensemble.

Such a great idea for a video. Very nicely done. It really helps a reader know how complicated and intricate it is to do an adaptation or to even pace a scene in a comic. Goes to show how an artist can be responsible for not just making pretty pictures. Thank you for this!

Thank you so much for this! It was wonderful how you walked us through your process and decision making. It’s a pet peeve of mine when comics are treated like storyboards and movie adaptations are taken for granted. It was great to see how the reverse can happen, with a comics adaptation of a film! All your points about the tools at the artist’s disposal in both media were spot on. Thanks again!

If this is going to be a regular series, you should do Refn's Drive, it's a very visually dense movie and I feel will translate really well in comic format, even though it uses music religiously.

Unf amazing video. I love it. I can't really think how to improve it as far as an single page goes. This is great. I thought maybe having Mr. Blonde straddling the cop instead of the razor, but that lacks sadism and violence.

@rayday25213 жыл бұрын
Another great episode -- the insights you provide and the production value of your setting are both phenomenal! Thank you! I would be curious to see how you would do a layout for a rom-com like iocane powder/battle of wits scene in 'The Princess Bride' or the swimming scene in 'Moonlight'. Scenes that are less action-oriented could be more challenging to adapt onto the comics page given how they rely (or don't rely on) words and precise timing. I would be curious how you would balance speech, timing, and atmosphere.
