I'd love to see a comparison of your Scamp to the standard Scamp fixtures, and why you made those choices. I've been considering getting a Scamp and I was totally shocked the first time I saw photos of the inside of a 'standard' Scamp - they look sooooo different!

And it comes in a non-spray container as well because its original purpose was to dip tool handles to make them non-conductive and rust resistant. Hence “plasti” (plastic) “dip” (you dip your tool handles in the jar to coat them).

The way you come up with solutions that may or may not work long term, but is affordable enough to give it a try, is exactly what I do when it comes to turning my 2003 Honda CRV and 1999 Ford Ranger into a travel camper type vehicle. Wall insulation board IS wonderful for keep out the cold underfoot. I have used the 2 in. board with a 6 in. memory foam (both easy to contour to the sleeping area of both vehicles) attached (and covered with an old, huge, vinyl tablecloth since mine is only in when we are camping) because my husband cannot sleep if he cannot at least mostly sit up when in bed mode. The wooden platforms some people build are not great for insulation, and the board is lightweight (as you know). Anyway, I loved this video. It is very informative for those of us who may one day consider buying an older Scamp. My favorite part of all of the things you have done to the Scamp is the little furnace/fireplace. A new tour would be great, although I thought your earlier ones were good too. As for tires, I have never been disappointed with any all terrain (or the next thing to it) made by Cooper. I live in Northern Utah and while the small trucks I've owned do well on any Utah road, with the Cooper tires I've put on our CRV, not only do I gain a little more clearance, but they have performed very, very well. Safe and happy travels!

Hello. Just a tip about dealing with rust underneath trucks or trailers. You can use a steel brush to just get the loose stuff out, a brush to dust it off and what I recommend is you use Rust reformer. Rust reformer bonds to the rust and actually makes it really hard preventing the rust to spread, rust reformer is also paintable so after a few coats you can paint it with whatever you want. Just thought I’d say this just in case.

I have a solution for your roof vent: Tin. I have a scuba trailer that we also use for camping, etc., and one of the first improvements we made to it was installing one of those crank vents. After a couple of years that white plastic broke down and fell apart. I went to Home Depot, bought a small role of the tin flashing that roofers use. I measured the vent size PLUS the amount of overhang I'd need, then cut out the square with tin snips, including extra "wrap around" length (about an inch) at each corner so that when I folded down the edges to create the lip I had a piece at each corner to wrap around to the adjacent lip. I drilled a hole at each corner where the adjacent sides overlapped and bound them together with zip ties (you could use small nuts & bolts or rivets). I drilled the additional holes needed to mount the existing hinge and the crank mechanism. Voila! It now is virtually impervious to weather! I can shoot you a picture if you're interested.

Sure I’d love to see another detailed inside look at your Scamp, daily routines including making coffee and cooking your meals. And of course enjoying Kamp run wild and free and playing in the snow. It’s your beautiful and peaceful chill personalities which makes these videos heartwarming to watch. Also I love your humor. So yes, keep the videos coming. Hi Elsa and Barron! My husband and I really really enjoy all the tips that you share. We are planning to retire and do a lot of camping and would like to do some "Off Road" camping as well. We love all the tips you share they are really helpful and we are taking notes. But we just love how you enjoy making it real for the viewers, in sharing your fun times and not so fun times. We love watching Baron get into a mountain stream /creek or river and lay down in it as he counts the secs. he can stand it before getting out. We also love watching the times Elsa has tried to do the same. Good for you Elsa! We love when she bursts up and out of the water yelling while running back to the Scamp during your Winter camping. We love your recipes, as we are Vegetarian and can duplicate a lot of meals you prepare together and the ingredients you choose. My husband was a manager of a health food store and so he recognizes a lot of the products you use in your cooking. We also (like everyone else) love Camp and all his adventures. He's so loved and spoiled. We love when he's all wrapped up in your blankets like, "you guys might be getting up, but I want to stay in bed". Also when he plays & races around in it and plows through the snow. We loved the video from Camps point of view and the hilarious voice you used for him when he talked throughout the video. We have followed you as often as we can for about a year and a half now. So much continued success to you. And keep making the videos. It's our weekend treat to catch up with you and your adventures. We were surprised to learn that you are thinking about buying some land and perhaps building a home? Where? Around your parents location? Well I guess it will remain a mystery after all you don't want a lot of fans sitting on your porch camped out outside your door. When are you thinking of getting started with this? Then how often will you take Scamp on the road again once you have a land, wheel-less home. I'm sure you will tell us all more about this soon. In the mean time it's a joy to keep up with you an your adventures. You guys are inspiring so may people of all ages. You guys "Rock" !

For a seasonal skirt, you might look into something flexible that could be rolled or folded up for storage. Just a length of canvas or other fabric (old tent?) You would need to work out a way to secure it (maybe snaps), but it would make a huge difference. Possibly even bubble wrap?

I've done the axle replacement on my 30 year old scamp. bought the new one from scamp. The orig had 1" bearings. i tried out my spare bearing and discovered the new axle was metric, bigger by a touch. Dont know if you keep spares but if so beware. Also I recommend you keep a sharp chisel in case a bearing ever 'spins'. It can weld the inner race to the axle; must be split off. I learned this from an old man. Now I am old and still someone else is enjoying it.

there’s a really cool company called schluter that makes completely waterproofed building materials (mostly made for showers and bathrooms) but they have some awesome waterproof sealants and fabric tape that might work for you guys!!!

Love all the updates! Fellow shiba inu owner here - Does he suffer from eye allergies? I only say this because my dogs eyes looked exactly the same: inflamed/irritated and we knew it was allergy related. My vet asked me if we have a wood burning fireplace at home because the fire creates dust and other irritants that are left behind in the air even with good ventilation. His advice was to get a small honeywell air purifier, and vacuming/dusting that area more often. Keep in mind, dogs can smell 120X better than we can so even a little bit can make a difference to them, plus if you don't like more natural treatments, this one is about as natural as it comes.

I recommend Goodyear Endurance ST tires. They are made in the U.S.A and are the most reliable trailer tires out there. Avoid all the "China Bomb" tires.

Hi , Scampers, Cap'n Rick here in the Port of Lewes, Delaware. Next time you get around to the frame rust problem , find a boat yard or Marine contractor that cleans and removes boat bottom paint. They will come in with their blaster that uses corn husk and baking soda and blow that rust off without hurting the metal, then you can quickly coat it with Rustolium . Nice update. My daughter got tired of paying $1,600 a month and bought a 2018 Pro Master City Tradesman and moved back in with us while her boatbuilder Dad tricked it out. Nice to hear you also have a handy Dad to help! Plus the only rent she pay;s is in Bourbon, beer and pizza's.

We are almost finished updating our 1997 all-aluminum pull-behind trailer. We wanted a Scamp or Casita but couldn't find any used in our area. But ... still found a GREAT trailer that our Chevy Silverado can pull into and over the N America mountains. Planning to set ourselves free from home base next summer! Thanks for being inspirational. :-) (In our 60's, but never too late.)

Re: Star board, the product is impervious to water and moisture but at a cost. First it is very heavy and second it very expensive. Also it's a little hard to find. I live on the coast in a boating area and there are only a couple of sources. Oh and online, shipping is crazy expensive. I think that a better choice is marine or high quality plywood that you can resin, aka epoxy, coat. Seal with 3M 4200, not 5200, and it will out last your needs.

I worked in the plastic industry a few years back and we used a ton of 1/2" 4'X8' sheets of HDPE Sheet (I think its the same as starboard), a 4'X8'X1/2" sheet weighed right at 82 lbs. its fairly easy to find if you know the right places to look. We used to buy a sheet for about 100 bucks, so not too terribly bad.

My partner and I did a very similar insulation technique on our scamp 19. We put Pink panther insulation board under the bed area. Getting the screw length correct is challenging. We finished it off by coating it in a layer of Flex Seal liquid rubber to protect from the elements. Highly recommend that option.
