+lisette rojas You will be amazed at the magic of CI's. We sign with Elsie as well and at 16 months she can say and sign aeroplane (her favourite word and sign), Daddy, Rabbit, Pig (she snorts and points to nose), Nana, Baby (her second favourite word and sign), Woof Woof then pants, Quack, nose, eye, fish (can only point to it), more, hello/ goodbye (her third favourite word and sign), Thank you and occasionally Mummy when she’s wants something or upset! I keep meaning to video her, to be able to communicate is such a wonderful thing. Your son is very lucky to have you supporting him at such a hard time. I wish you all the best.

It is amazing what we can do these days! But I still hope she and her brother is also brought up learning sign language, and interact with other deaf children 😊 it is an awesome environment for both children and adults. It can be an environment of understanding and “feeling alike”. To be able to choose between both, I think is the optimal choice 😊

What is the difference in implants, that hers is connected through the nose instead of her ears! Both are wonderful and make me appreciate my hearing, as well as all my families! How wonderful for all those children now entering the hearing world!

Aw she's gorgeous bless her. They wanted me to have a Cochlear Implant, I've had a hearing aid for over 35 years, including 2 at one stage, I always hated having 2 though, because I got bullied at school for it, the hospital has tried for years to get me to wear 2 again and I tell them no every time.

Implants don’t work for all deaf children but it certainly gives them a chance.

How wonderful. Elsie is going really well thank you. Her language and speech are age appropriate if not better than an average 2 year old. She can sign and read the alphabet and 1 to 10. It is a lot of therapy and constant monitoring but worth it. All the best in your CI journey.

Hi Ayana, Great question, yes and no. She can eat but due to her short gut gets very little nutritional value and most foods come out (into her ostomy bag) the same as they went in. This is why she is still TPN dependant. Our other video on TPN, Kids and Baxter will give better insight into how this works. Clare x
