Until you try playing and singing this song, you wont understand what great artists Billy and Elton really are! Also consider their ages, not many can still perform like them.

Time flies, I saw this live, it was pretty cool, great interview and music. Too bad I could not go see them live when they toured. But wife and I were just out college and very broke. Not sure why but even though we were broke we both have very fond memories of those days.

I saw them at the very end of this tour in October 2002. They played a full three and a half hours. One of the best concerts I’ve ever seen.

It's interesting how in this, Billy's piano isn't heard while Elton's piano is but when they performed "Piano Man" after, it's the other way around lol

Great watching these two pros together. One's a Brit, the other's a Yank .. It's funny observing the slightly different sense of humour, but I think they genuinely liked each other. (Apros the interview before the song performance).

When are you gonna come down? When are you going to land? I should have stayed on the farm I should have listened to my old man You know you can't hold me forever I didn't sign up with you I'm not a present for your friends to open This boy's too young to be singing The blues, ah, ah So goodbye yellow brick road Where the dogs of society howl You can't plant me in your penthouse I'm going back to my plough Back to the howling old owl in the woods Hunting the horny back toad Oh, I've finally decided my future lies Beyond the yellow brick road Ah, ah What do you think you'll do then? I bet they'll shoot down the plane It'll take you a couple of vodka and tonics To set you on your feet again Maybe you'll get a replacement There's plenty like me to be found Mongrels who ain't got a penny Sniffing for tidbits like you On the ground, ah, ah So goodbye yellow brick road Where the dogs of society howl You can't plant me in your penthouse I'm going back to my plough Back to the howling old owl in the woods Hunting the horny back toad Oh, I've finally decided my future lies Beyond the yellow brick road Ah, ah

Thanks for this. As wonderful as zesting is, I’ve always struggled to discern the lyrics of his songs. It’s how he pronounces the words - I can barely understand about half of them. My bad, I guess.

Not being rude at all, but is this about the time Billy fell off the wagon? He really goofed up the lyrics at 2:49. I know they had some kind of fight and then a falling out for a period of time because of Billy's sobriety. All in all, it's a great song with the two of them!! :)

@@erestube It is actually: Back to the howling old owl in the woods Hunting the horny back toad So Billy sang "Back to the....." twice, but it was hardly the crime of the century and nothing to do with drinking as the other poster was implying, especially as it is not his song and they were not using lyrics monitors, which they did later when touring. Although if Billy can play the piano, sing the lyrics and follow along and not miss his turn again while trading verses on someone else's song when supposedly drunk, then he really is a musical genius. And as someone else above pointed out, Elton messed up the lyrics to Piano Man by singing the opening "It's nine o'clock on a Saturday" verse and then after a supposedly drunk Billy played harmonica, piano and sang his verse, Elton started to repeat the "It's nine o'clock on a Saturday" verse again, before realising and quickly switching to the correct line of the verse he was on. Then after finishing that verse, he asked Billy was that all right and started laughing, so he could quite easily have thrown Billy off and caused him to lose his place. Not that I am blaming Elton though, as it is not his song and he does not even write lyrics himself on his own songs but just the music, whereas Billy writes both lyrics and music on his songs.

While probably not conscious of it I see this regret as mankind leaving the Garden of Eden to follow Satan's glittery promises. Goodbye Yellow Brick Road is the return to God's bosom.
