Years ago, he was at Rich Stadium in Buffalo and it was raining, with a good portion of the crowed getting soaked. Elton, sitting at his piano, was under an immense awning over the stage. After a couple of songs he came to the front of the stage and thanked everyone for sitting in the rain to listen to his songs. Then a roadie ran up, drenched him with a bucket of water, another one tossed him a towel, and he ran back to the piano and started belting out "Saturday Night's All Right for Fightin'.

God bless this troubador..........pure talent. One man, his voice and piano, and I could listen for hours. No computers, machines, eighty-five dancers/backup singers, stupid props............................just the purity of his talent. "Yeehaw", indeed. Peace:-)

Roy Rogers, the famous singing cowboy (the King of the Cowboys) was a big name Hollywood actor who was idolized by millions, and a star not only of films but of radio and TV. When Elton and his collaborator Bernie Taupin wrote this, Rogers was still very much alive. It is not only a song about Roy Rogers but a hymn for everyone who lives a boring, humdrum life and yearns to escape. Although it was born out of Taupin's love of the Old West, the duo had a consensus.

I've always loved this song. I've performed this back in 1988 and beyond. For years most folk didn't even know I was covering EJ until I told them. This is the first video I have ever seen EJ play Roy Rogers. Great to see. Even better that the fans didn't think it was a kareoke event, which ALWAYS kills a concert.

I've always been a big Roy Rogers fan, but just found out about this song. It's marvelous the way Elton puts hoofbeats in his piano and Bernie's lyric is so full of imagery. I love it.

Never picked up on the hoof print sound.Now I have to listen to this another 100x's.Cool.

I always play a hoofbeat with my fingers on the top of my piano when I finish singing this song, as I let the melody fade via the sustain pedal.

I don't know how anyone could hear this and think he's struggling to sing it. It's completely unfair to compare it to the original, which was 35 years prior to the recording of this performance. Elton is still a great singer, just in a different way than he was at the beginning.
@dogpd34 жыл бұрын
I think he sounds really good on his. He sings the song very similar to the original, despite having vocal surgery In the 1980s that caused his voice to be much deeper Than it was originally
@hunterglass1015 Жыл бұрын

@tpowell453 He dropped down in key and inverted a few phrases to adjust to his present voice, but it was well done. In one part, I think of the second refrain, he holds in midrange while what seem like backup voices carry it up to the original high note, then fade back down to his note and he takes it from there. He is an artist, and a consummate showman.
