while going through radiation at the hospital for cancer treatment , they always ask what playlist i want to listen to. my go to is always either an elton john playlist or a queen playlist. but i remember on my last radiation appointment i chose elton and i was listening to this song as i finished. i had been feeling so distant because i couldn’t do much cause how sick i was, but this song brought me so much happiness. and in that moment, for some reason i knew that i’d get through it and be alright in the end. and here i am still alive to this day fighting cancer for the 7th time and i will never give up. don’t care if it takes a long long time , i’ll be okay :).

I admire the contrast between Elton's "Rocket Man", and Bowie's "Space Oddity" where one longs to be with his family and the other falls in love with space so much that he leaves his wife, earth, and just gives in to be apart of space till the end of his days. Edit. I just got out of "Rocketman", and man was it incredible. It was indescribable, but in words absolutely beautiful. A big inspiration to me as a musician, and just as a person in general. A big recommendation to anyone interested.
@samuelmiller70665 жыл бұрын

I think this video is so beautiful. I interpret it to be a man who loves his family so much, he takes a long and dangerous journey across the world to find a safe place for them. The scenes of him in an astronaut suit and entering a rocket are only symbols, when his real journey is the scenes of going under the truck and on the lifeboat. He ends up in London - which appears as a futuristic city to represent a safe and thriving civilization, compared to the one he's trying to escape - and thinks he sees his family in the subway, happy they're safe and together again, but realizes he's not close to finishing his journey, as he still has to go back for his family. The video ends with his yearning to see them again, when they can all be reunited. That's how I understand it, at least. It's very beautiful.

This video made us feel lonely and thoughtful, showing how hard it can be to be far from home. A connection we can make between the video and migration is the isolation many migrants feel when starting a new life. This song is often interpreted as a reflection on the loneliness and isolation that can come with a life of constant travel and fame, which are experiences Elton John himself was familiar with. The lyrics describe an astronaut's longing for home and the people he left behind. The phrase "Rocket Man" is a metaphor for someone who is detached from the world and feels like they are "burning out his fuse up here alone." The song conveys a sense of melancholy and the emotional toll of a life that's always on the move. "Rocket Man" has become one of Elton John's most iconic and enduring songs, known for its evocative and introspective lyrics.

I’ll never forget hearing this song while descending the escalator at Piccadilly Station in London. It was just after breaking up with an ex girlfriend while studying in Spain, and I had traveled to England to mend my heart. Feeling launched into life yet enormously alone, I heard a boy with a guitar singing this song. It was perfect: I’m in London!, feeling like a Rocketman. This song brought me comfort and gave me a deeper sense of where i was. Later, I heard it in an episode of The X-Files, during a divorce scene, and realized someone else understood what I felt. This video, with the perspective of immigrants, adds a new dimension to the song’s lyrics. It was so moving that I burst into tears, 18 years after… again
