Only a chaplain (priest) could sing pagan metal outside a church for peace on sunday's 🤣 a secret santa claus stocking filler gem! which Scotland only have very few metal gems, 'Nazareth' from the late 60's to name one compared to England. Pagan or Celtic metal are sub-genres of which fall under folk metal. There are also genres like pirate metal which is a sub-genre of folk metal but it is more lyrically driven. The English band 'Skyclad' are pioneers of folk metal whom Skyclad were playing folk metal before there was folk metal. Skyclad were playing thrash with fiddles before it was cool! They have plenty of heavy stuff, but a very large portion of their catalogue. Many of the fans who discovered the genre during it's early 2000's might have only given them a cursory listen, but moved on to heavier stuff. Arguably the first metal band which seriously explored Pagan themes was the late 80's UK thrash metal band Sabbat. After two albums that explored, among other things, pre-historical polytheism spirituality and myth, Sabbat's vocalist and lyricist Martin Walkyier left Sabbat to form Skyclad. FrogSword is a new band from England that has a good sound with a funny concept. 'When life gives you lemons, make lemonade' haha. A Scots poem written by Robert Burns in 1788 and set to the tune of a traditional Scottish folk song. I don’t know much about Scottish folk music, and the artists I relish most date back a long, long time ago.
